Just barely dodged the bullet on this one, still gives me shivers. I stepped forward, not seeing a LONG rusty nail, and my weight/momentum was already comitted. I felt the nail push through the heel of my shoe. The nail went all the way in and hit the infantesimal space between my foot and shoe. The thing went almost all the way up to my ankle bone.

yeh man, i have stepped on a nail that has gone through my foot including bone (still having log attached as well)
it\'s surprisingly less painfull than a lot of things.

slipped many times when i was a dental technician with a hand drill and nice put it into my finger (hitting the bone)
that one hurts like a bitch when it happens.

broke so many bones it\'s crazy, concussion several times (never from a blow to the front or top of the head, just wish nature had thought about having the sides and back better protected!)

blood poisoning thanks to numpty fuckwit surgeons (you should have seen the wound when it got infected, i had a n entire arse cheek rock hard and burning up due to all the puss.) and the doctors surgery insisting i go to them to see a doctor when i tell them something is wrong even though i wasn\'t capable of walking!

metal fillings in my eyes from when i was a dental tech (used to happen a fair bit as the safety glasses were scratched to buggery and you couldn\'t see shit with them on)

dislocated my shoulder and fractured it, their is so much crap in joint that doctors thought i had a pin in it when they exrayed it lol

had a cyst in the top of my head, wasn\'t that difficult to remove realy as it was only the size of a finger nail.

been knocked down a few times and only had minor bruising (damn lucky realy)

could go on.

i\'m a bit more carefull nowadays though (god i\'m getting old)

I\'ve been pretty lucky really. No broken bones or major cuts/stabs/wounds, etc. I did manage to burn the inside of my arm on an electric toaster oven when I was a little kid. I\'ve still got a bit of a scar from that.

The only other thing I\'ve had is ingrown toenails. Both of my big toes curl down too much at the sides so they get ingrown very easily. It hurts like buggery when it is infected and someone steps on it. Getting the bits of ingrown nail out is a bit of an exercise in testing your pain threshold.

I\'ve had 1 side of my big toe nails (one on each big toe) permanently killed off now to stop them from happening. So it almost looks like half my big toe nails are missing. That certainly beats dealing with the pain of an ingrown toenail though.

I think I got off lucky compared to some of you folks here! The only times I can remember getting seriously hurt were:

Brakes failed when going down a hill on a bike when I was in my teens, slammed the bike smack into a neighbour\'s gate at the bottom of the hill - cuts and bruises and stitches for a torn knee.

More recently, just last year, I punched a 100kg punching bag bare knuckled. Broke a bone in my right hand.

I\'m pretty sure I\'ve broken bones at least three times in my foot/toes playing hockey. Broke my helmet with my head in it too. Aside from it being someone on my team with whom I collided (where he tried to jump over me for some assanine reason and drove my head into the ice), the most annoying thing was having to buy a new helmet. Of course, innumerable bruises, but that\'s part of hockey. The puck isn\'t very forgiving.

Hobby wise, I\'ve lost count how many times I\'ve stabbed myself with my exacto knife. Sometimes when I\'m sculpting (which for me means a lot of carving to fix stuff), I\'ll use a thimble or two.

stood on a nail, which stang like hell, but i was hyper, so i shrugged it off, took an over head sofa cushion smash of doom to the top of the thumb, which rendered it immobile for 2hrs, but i was hyper and paggered the guy right back:D

bike flipped over my head and landed on my back,

fell off a 3 meter quarterpipe and hit the metal bottom (where it connects to the floor) on the back of my head

fingers caught between 2 quarterton logs, which began to roll with my fingers inside.

fell down a screeslope for about 5 meters in lake district, my dad stopped me before the 20ft vertical drop 20 meters away

fell onto a solid brick floor head first when i was two, i hated little tykes ever since... also, that knocked me out.

tried to surf in the bath on a float when i was two, face planted onto the taps, resulting in a split chin. i fainted due to bloodloss.

oh, and just for the vengence record, my mate tried to punch me with a boxing glove, i dodged and managed to choke him before he fofeited.

YAY!

Catalogue of injuries/accidents/mishaps.

When I was teething I used to get my gums rubbed with Brandy to help with the pain. However I somehow managed to:
A) find the Full ½ Bottle my Grandmother kept for emergencies.
B) Unscrew the top.
C) Consume the lot.
Was I :drunk: Hoo yeah! lol

Cut my thumb to the bone with a wood carving knife aged around 9. Thought that the wood carved very easily. :duh:
Spent a week recovering tiny pieces of Brass wire out of my forehead after trying to clean up an old and rusty Jack plane.
Lost the argument with a prominent screw head in a machine. Tiny little cut, ¼inch scar.

Think I may have mentioned this one before, but here goes anyway.
I used to be a Scoutleader and every year we took our group off in the May holidays to Scotland (Loch Grannock).
This particular year one of our scouts (more muscles than sense) hoofs the football up into the top of a Tree. 40+feet tree at that, so definitly not going to climb that you little beggars!!!
Que the next couple of days working out ways to get it down. Ended up building a Balissta like machine with intent of projecting rock attached to rope over top of tree thereby enabling us to shake tree enough to dislodge ball.
I take group of scouts to \"Safe Zone\" and am proceeding to show them how to make a \"Fire Stick\" when hears shout of \"Look out Mike!\".
Looked up and recieved fast moving, A5 sized piece of Scottish Granite in mouth. Exit three teeth in small broken sections, accompanied by copious amounts of blood and saliva.
Scout leader with me at time went green at sight of blood, dashes behind rhodedendron bush and is violently sick, (this is the man who was doing the same First Aid course as I was). I had to send a scout back in the lodge to grab my own First Aid kit and do my own first aid.

Worst part about it, 10 minutes before teatime and I was bloody starving!.

Ouch!

I hate to sound like an ignorant American, but approximately how large is an A5 piece of granite?

My list:

4 Stitches from a wall radator in the forehead

Smash broke the tip of my ring finger

Burnt finger in the fryer at McDonalds

Cracked my left hip playing soccer

Heart contusion caused by receiving a solar plexis punch while playing soccer

More concusions than I care to count, playing soccer.

Cracked ribs... playing soccer.

Little brother hit me in the head with a batting tee (home plate point) causing blood loss

The worst injury I ever saw was one I caused playing soccer... I slide tackled a guy and broke both bones in his shin. The injury was unintentional, though I would of felt bad, but he\'s the guy who hospitalized me with the heart contusion earlier in the season.

Nothing compares to the pain of a circumcision at the age of 23. I\'m alergic to most pain killers too, so I had to be given some really feeble pain killers which didn\'t work at all. By far the worst part of the whole thing was the agony of the early morning rise.

I once entered an electricity station to retrieve my frisbee. I should have been aware of the danger as there was some menacing music playing at the time, but I soldiered on and managed to get up pretty high. Anyway, I got near what I thought was my frisbee but as I grabbed it many thousands of volts passed through my body, killing me. I don\'t think it was my frisbee at all. I\'m better now though.

I tell you what, if we\'re talking maximum pain I have to make mention of a biopsy I had done on my...ahem...old chap. I think i may have told this before, but when i was living with my wife a fair while back, I suffered from a complaint that afflicted my arms, legs and the extremities in my pants. My wife (paranoid as she was/is) went ape and accused me of sleeping around (in as many words). I protested my innocence (and it still rankles now that she thought I\'d do that) but I went to the VD clinic or whatever they call them in these PC days under duress just to assuage her concerns. When they got me to drop my pants and examined me, they mentioned a biopsy to rule out any baddie stuff causing the problem. I\'d never heard of a biopsy so I agreed, thinking it would be a walk in the park. They proceeded then to inject needles into the business end of my appendage to numb it before taking away a little bit away from my little bit. To be fair, whilst uncomfortable, it wasn\'t exactly a hardship. I got some stitches and was sent on my way.

The tests came back as Lichen Planus, a completely harmless, non-sexual complaint that would disappear in time and happens to many people. I had some steroid cream for it and it all cleared up in time as if it had never ever been there. The pain though came when the lovely people in the clinic got me back in to pull the stitches out. I thought it\'d be a doddle, but by Jove it bastard hurt! It goes without saying that the protuberance is extremely sensitive around the blood-rich zone, and the pain from the tugging sent me into areas I\'d never previously visited. To paraphrase Lovecraft (topical!), the pain was so fabulous that I decided not to describe it lest the reader be made afright... I had to ask them at one point to stop before I screamed. One of them said she was surprised how well I was dealing with it which surprised me greatly. The pain wasn\'t felt in my body alone but much deeper as well, away from the body if it makes sense. Madness, sheer madness. I think some was left in there when they sent me on my way, tears in my eyes, as I have periodically had a bit of stitching come out. Every time it does come out I silently curse the woman who made me do it, destroying our trust at the same time.

Apart from that, i\'ve had a boring life with the occasional injury but nothing else.

I had mine done as a kid and I still remember the pain of trying to piss when I was at a Military Tattoo in Cardiff Castle. Not at all good! I have vague memories of trying to avoid the needle as well when i was on the bed. My only other memory is of a Batman helicopter with twin red rotor blades on top. The mind is a great healer :D

That just brought up an old memory of this electric Spider Man I had with a helecopter..... google provides:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=4Notqz_PUtI

Man I wish I still had that.

EDIT: sorry, way off topic.

Worst one for me: out drinking at a local Dive. Celtic Punk Music (Pogues Style) lots of beers. Lots more beers. Friends decide they want to drive up to Toronto on a lark. No clue why but I take offence (well I know why, the lots of beers and pub songs). We take it outside. I get super pissed off, but thankfully decide not to take it out on friends. Instead I put my left fist right though a glass door in the front of an auto shop. Alarms go off, lights flash on. I grogily notice my hand is stuck, use my other hand to pull my left hand free of the glass it was stuck in. Next thing I remember I\'m at a hospital and a Dr. is giving me one of those \"you see this, this is you dieing speaches\", I pass out. Next I wake up to my wrist getting stiched back together. I\'ve still got a 4\" jagged scar on my wrist. Everyone tends to assume I tried to commit suicide at some point and I explain to them it was something just about as stupid.

It was/is a video of this Spider Man toy on the second page:

And to stay on topic. Way back in Grade 10 I was in shop Class using a rotary drill to put my name in a block of wood when I slipped and took off the corner of my Thumb. The wound wasn\'t really that bad, but the way a Spiral of Flesh was torn off was really gross. I can still picture it spining around the drill to this day.

I got bit by a spider. Such a harmless looking chap. I didn\'t even know it had happened. I went into the garage to move the laundry from the washer to the dryer and half an hour later I\'m curled in a ball on the floor shaking with no one but a young child in the house to help me and no way to get to the doctors.

Alex called Mr C who came home and took me to the Urgent Care who said nothing was wrong even though my head was starting to swell. This Dr had never seen me before and assumed that all heavy women had fat faces.

My head swelled to the size of a large watermellon. We didn\'t have insurance at the time so Mr C said we\'d wait and see what happened. I spent 7 days in bed barely able to breath, swelling more and more. It wasn\'t until a vein in my throat got all ropey and nasty that he finally took me to the hospital.

I spent a week in the hospital in an iv antibiotic cocktail then had to drag an iv rig around the house for a month before the Dr\'s said I was ok. I still get infections pretty easily and I was healthy as a horse before that. The pain was unbelieveable. And I\'ve had a double chin ever since.

Spiders are evil. And I\'m getting a divorce.
