Your say on Spyglass Miniatures!

Okay guys, I launched Spyglass Miniatures about a week ago so I suspect most of you have seen them by now.

What do I want? I want your opinions on the whole operation. Anything you like? Anything you don\'t like. Is there something you\'d like to see?

Basically, shoot away. I want your opinions, your questions, your rants.

Anything and everything. Is this a good thing or am I just mad for even having thought about doing this to start with ???

Fire away :)

Is this too much to ask for?:D

Seriously though... This is a VERY good thing. It is always a good thing to have access to varied and beautifully sculpted minis. All the more so when its not from one of the big impersonal companies, but from the sculptor himself. As soon as payday rolls around, I\'ll be ordering up some:D

Best of luck and may God (and the Reverand) bless you. :flip:

Just to make things clear first: I did not order any miniatures yet, but I might do so in the future because I really like them.

Ahem, okay :) First of all the minis look great. Hopefully the casting quality is also quite okay. They\'re not cheap, but still low-priced for minis with such a limited number of castings.

I think if you could bring out new minis on, let\'s say, a three-montly basis, you would soon create a small fan-club that buys every single mini you produce.

I wish you lots of luck, because you simply deserve it!

Steve, I don\'t know what it is but everytime I buy one of your sculpts I seem to do a superb job.. I don\'t know what it is, but I just get inspired to do something different and it seems to go well with the figure. Keep it up!

Too late. :) I\'m already a fan, and been so since the New Wave Games Perseus-like figure.

There is something iconic about the figures that you\'ve been doing, mainly because they\'re so \"simple\", as you say in your Spyglass description. They\'re not overdone with too many details. I think you should continue with that theme.

In other words, start thinking of other iconic heroes:

A kind old wizard with a long beard
The knight in shining armor
The skulking thief
The ugly oversized brute
The evil necromancer
The witty fencer
The pious cleric

Make sure the faces are visible on each one; don\'t hide the knight behind a helm or the thief behind a mask. Don\'t overload the necromancer with dead doodads and crud, but I think you understand that already. The pious cleric could be holding up a round holy symbol with no detail, which allows painters to put on whatever symbol they wish to have.

My only complaint is the price, especially considering that I need to pay shipping and handling on top of that. But I\'ve already ordered my set (2 each, actually...) and can\'t wait to get them...

price is high but since this isnt a army i want or anything and i only gotta buy a few its cool.

sculpts are nice and cleanly rounded. reminds me of ikores/kev whites celtos line, just very clean and open a bit.

cool ur going with cmon too, itd be nice if cmon did some more sculptors and became some sort of indie publisher of sculptors private galleries etc.

and i like em all so far cept i have some animosity towards your barbarian guy because he almost looks like the local surfers here \"dood, i got sooo ripped on that wave\" and quite frankly i want to push them all in the ocean and set off a underwater nook.

keep doin whatever your doin, it would be nice seeing a whole reaper type fanatasy line just making whatever you feel like etc.

Dauber - Thanks for the ego boost :D

Corvus - I think the castings are pretty good. My caster is very good at his job and has a lot of industry experience (two of the three paintjobs I have done have been on production castings). I\'m hoping to release a couple of new figures a month for a while. More if I can find time.

Chrispy - That\'s what I like to hear :)

Temperance - This is pretty much my plan, staple characters done well and with personality. Postage was initially quite high but it was a mistake. It\'s been lowered now to a far more reasonable rate.

Thanks guys. Keep it coming :)

Hi Steve,

Thanks for asking for input. Great idea!

I admire your scupts and enjoy the distinctive style.

I\'ll be buying at least 2 or 3 just as soon as I get my next paycheck, actually thinking about coversion possibilities as I type.

I\'d be interested in seeing a few dwarfs, a command group, actually ;) more lady rpg characters esp magic using, but other typical character types the ladies like, too.

Most of all I\'d like to see a beholder type model.

I\'d also buy some RQ type trolls, ducks, and centaurs, and some fantasy football types in various races, but I admit these might not have the market as the more standard rpg figures and monsters.

:) I have also ordered at least one of each of your figures, I’m working on the CMON Amazon right now and I find it a very easy model to get back into the painting swing of things. Haven\'t touched a mini in 15 years, so of course the Pony is rusty and the fact that these are simple, makes me and my weak eyes happy. Can hardly wait to get my hot little hands on them.

I like equines so would love some centaurs and mounted figures, and a good looking male or female witch would be nice. Also I would like to see more limited editions.

As for the prices, not to bad for just starting out with your business, an artist needs to make a bit of profit from their labors.

What do I want? I want you to succeed Steve!:)...and I shouldn\'t think you\'ll have too much trouble! Great figs at the right price...what more could be asked!:D

I love what you have done so far Steve and I will likely pic up a couple of them when I can afford it. As for what I want? I want the most dynamic poses you can get the mold makers to cast. I don\'t care how many parts you have to cut them into either. Gap filling is part of the hobby for me. Be creative. Crouching, leaping, axe-kicks, hand springs, and everything else! Oh, and sf figures.

I\'ve ordered most of the existing figures already. You guys are a breath of fresh air!

Suggestions... I haven\'t seen a really good werewolf or werecat figure on the market in a long time, just hulking monsters. I\'ve always envisioned them as too insanely graceful to be real. They always show up in campaigns and it\'s hard to believe that no one has made a great sculpt yet.

Excellent!

Steve, excellent work. As you must be aware I am a big fan. I have your Kordius the Slayer from New Wave and a couple of the Amazons and I\'ve ordered the Shae the Half Elf Archer and Katalin the Succubus. I\'ll be getting the rest as time goes on.

Prices are fair, comparitively speaking.

Your style is great and you do great women, and have a really excellent way of posing your sculpts. They have a good sense of movement.

What I really want is more of the same. :D

If pressed:

Lots of variety
movement
Beautiful women
Fantasy characters
Sci Fi characters
More beautiful women
a couple Cyberpunk/Shadowrun style characters
Even more beautiful women
Something different

I can\'t be more specific then that, but I\'m sure inspiration will turn your hand to lots of cool stuff that will inspire great painting. Which from what I\'ve been seeing is already happening.

Look forward to more.

Cheers Darkblade

Another thing: I\'m currently working on several projects and collections that I want to have finished before I start anything else (for example collecting and painting spyglass minis :)). So, are there only going to be 200 minis or are you planning on casting more of them in the future?

SJB

Okay here goes :)

Wightzombie - sorry the Barbarian annoys you :D I do think coolmini plan to add more indy miniatures lines at some point.

BME - Scifi is a possibility at some point in the future. I\'ve got other plans immediately though. BUt there are definately a few scifi figs I want to do sometime.

Kenneth - A dwarf would be a good plan (hit those staples) and I do like Beholders (I sculpted 2 of them for Kenzer).

Wiccanpony - I\'m definately going to do some mounted figures sometime. And a Centaur would be fun too. Glad you\'re enjoying my figures. I don\'t like making my figures a pain to paint.

Hex - Cheers

Impernouncable - The problems with multipart figures are that they are quite a lot more expensive to produce. This has far more bearing on price than the amount of metal. But I will try to do some interesting poses. I\'m just not sure everyone is as happy gap-filling as you.

Otter - A non-confrontation style Werewolf would be cool. And there are plans in place for a werecat but that\'s something I can\'t go into quite yet.

Darkblade - I shall endevour to keep going with what I do :) And I should have a ltd edition \'something different\' pretty soon.

Corvus - There will be more cast up when the 200 are gone. The figures will not be ltd edition unless they are marked as so.

Gasps for air ;)

hi there mr. buddle. :)

finally my long awaited succubus is here. i am just collecting orders from several germans we we can place one alltogether.

the succubus is just totally sweet, love the mini. the elf is great too (apart from that flawless paintjob) so i need her too, and to round it up - this dynamic barbarian... yeah... why not? ;)

all a very nice style, very cool for rpg\'s or just collecting. i am pretty sure i will find the elf girl in several wood elve armies in future. ;)

push it on, would love to see more. :)
great job on sculplting and designing...

cheers!

Steve,

you already know what I want to see!;)

Aside from that, Dragons are always great to see, but perhaps a little ambitious at this juncture. What I would like to see is some weird creatures. Hmm, as a thought, I could send you some artwork that may give you some ideas..

Again, something unique.

As a thought, if you are interested in getting your minis out to a wider market I could have a word with my local independant store in Norwich (The Games Room), to see if he\'d be interested in carrying a few of your minis to see how they go. Let me know if you are interested.

Cheers

Kat
