I am battling a cold and I won't lie...I am losing the battle with the leaves ~sigh~ Anyway, today was a PA Day so I took it off and spent it with The Agent of Chaos. Daddy/Daughter days are fun! :claply: I got some more hobby done this week though since I was inspired by my success with Ivy. At work i have slowly been chipping away at Kurt in my time waiting for tapes to arrive. Thank god Grimm came in or I would have had to cut Grey's Anatomy  I got Kurt's base done and ready for a dulcote once he is mounted:

And i managed to get his plaid shirt done too:

Pretty pleased with this fun little dude! Speaking of little dudes... The knight and skulls are mounted and I even finished the blade with reflection. Now it's just OSL and some shading/charred wood, the frame and a spray...

I don't want to admit it, but I may- MAY be coming around on the whole NMM thing. :arrogant:

Dam I just lost my text when I linked the pic anyhow

I love the purple in the sword it reall adds to the NMM its something I will have to work on.
I like the cartoony feel and the close up of the stone, you can realy see the texture and paint work, nicley done!
So I was saying I think I will have to find some cartoony minis to paint too. I quite like these fellas but just finding some one that selling them near NZ so freight is not too expensive.

Zab the sword looks awesome! I am starting to get NMM too. If nothing else it makes you address light sources. I bet that OSL is going to be easier than you think, just mix your colors on your pallet and go slow. :)

[edit] Oh, did you enter the weathering contest???

Canny, I happen to have those guys. Right when I first started painting, i think 2007?, a local shop was getting rid of all their Confrontation stuff because "the factory was flakey" They had a whole rack of stuff. I got these guys, the Griffon fusiliers, some skeletons, the Kelt (?) standard bearer, the dwarf team with steam bazooka, and some armored guys with a banner and a drum for like $50. There was a bunch of crazy heroes too but they all looked too involved for me at the time.... oh well :(

Let me know if you get them, I would love to do a paint-a-long.

Thanks gang!
Krule, The plaid was easier than I thought. I did the red first then glazed on layers of black stripes and then laid down the thing ivory lines. Finally, I mixed up some ivory black and red in various combos and did a bunch of highlights that overlapped with each other in various spots. The whole thing took about 20 min! The sword was fun once I threw physics out the window o_O
Canny, those would be perfect for a cartoony look. The hardest thing about the cartoony stuff for me has been not making the blends too clean and smooth. It's like high contrast, but with slightly rough transitions. Weird.
Demi, I did enter the contest! Just under the wire. The osl will be a lot of yellow a bit of orange and maybe a little white near the flames. I think like the sword I am going to have to throw physics out the window to make it look good- I'll also have to push to contrast on the rock some more to make the osl more pronounced.
I need to take a few days though, yard work has wrecked my back and wrists and may have worsened my cold :(

Thanks Zab. The pattern is similar to one i am planning (Cameron clan colors) for a kilt wearing goblin from goblinaid for my wife. Just the thought of it has been intimidating.

Oh I thought you were just doing it around the flames. I didn't realize the knight was getting the treatment too. Are you tempted to just do it with a tint in the air brush? Feel Better!

Krule. the plaid was originally just red & black but it didn't work at that scale so i had to add the ivory stripe to make it register more. It might be worth doing up a few experiments before you settle on something just to see what it will work on your mini and it's scale. Demi, I think i'm going to go with bristles on it so i have more control. Sometimes the AB makes it seem a bit grainy or too dispersed.

Im becoming a fan of airbrushing early and very translucent but I have realised that you will never get as good finish as a brush. So tinkering around I basically laydown my rough colours then finess them with the brush to get the finish, Oh Camelsons blog has a little tute about washes that realy sorts the grain of the AB.

Racham - My wifes cousin in Melbourne said he can get them for me so I will double check and make the call for him to post them over.

Hope your feeling better soon!

OSL
Im not a fan of mega OSL and airbrush OSL is too much most of the time, I realy like this pick quite subtle glow but its there.

Thanks for reminding me about the tut, I forgot about that one! I might have to push to OSL pretty hard on this one just to maintain the cartoony feel. I'll build it up gradually though so that i don't overdo it.

Thanks Meaty, thanks Moe! Oh man. OSL on this scale is scary. I don't have pics yet, but that first thin layer where you are sort of covering your previous work feels like ruining the mini :nailbiting!: Breathe, breathe. Stick with it... Glazey does it...

Got a bit of rest at work today - that was a weird statement - and some more done on the Gobo Kurt. He's so much fun I just want to finish him up, but he's my little island of sanity at work where I wait for things to not happen. Got about 45 min in on him today at lunch.

Just his skin and sleeves to paint then some powders to tie him into his base. So close ~sigh~
Seeping chibi is calling though...OSL blocking begins. I am using some very pale colors to block out my most intense areas first.

It's very subtle on the rocks...

I'm so weak. I just shoved Sleeping Chibi to the side when I got too close to the finish line with Kurt. Just needs a dulcote and some photos for the gallery...
