Zab's Damn it to hell! WIP

It's nice to see different forms of creativity in those we share our lives with. Inspiring even. We get out a couple times a month in the winter to ride and once a week while lessons are on. I used to be sponsored and traveled all over the USA and Canada. It was fun sprinkled with bad injuries and a lot of driving/flying. Kinda glad it's over, living out of a back pack for 3 weeks out of 4 is for young people - stupid, enthusiastic young people. Re Alice: I think it's just artifacts in the photo since the background looks a bit textured. The pixels are showing a bit too since I blew it up so much and my WIP camera is pretty low res. Or maybe she's a grizzled desert nomad with sun baked skin?

Well said Zab. So often I find myself bemoaning my family for taking up my "free" time but the reality is that I wouldn't be doing any of this stuff without their support.

Snow is fun! I thought you guys were in the flat part of Canada. I did the ski bum thing in my twenties. I lived at a resort or in a resort town for I guess like, 7 seasons. It sort of just seems like one now. I didn't really get very good until the end and then I was never good at tricks but I did get good at steep terrain and technical stuff. My riding buddy blew his knee out bad and then everybody had kids. I am lucky if I make it out once a year now. I was always a snowboarder but I think when the boys get older I will take some ski lessons and try to get back into it a little. I can't think of anything funner for a kid then riding all day and gaming all night. Hopefully My ebay killa cans will afford us a ski cabin... lol

So I did pick up some crackle medium. There is a good write up here: http://massivevoodoo.blogspot.com/2011/03/tutorial-working-with-crackel-medium.html

Maybe some cracked sun burnt skin??? Certainly might be a good idea for the next desert base.

What is all this snow stuff you keep talking about!?!? I saw it once last week down here in Florida but they keep saying it was ice...not snow lol.

Yeah really want to get my hands on some crackle paint as well after seeing what Sproket did with his lamp post! I have some vehicles and other marines i would love to try that stuff on.

I have seen some reviews on line for the GW stuff and it looks solid, but i am trying to expand my horizons and GW is known for discontinuing stuff for no reason so I will likely look to another source.

with water.

but the thinner you make it (both applied thinnes and consistency) the smaller the cracks will be.

Well her coat is in a good place for now. I will likely go back and glaze with my mid tone or some of the other colors from the rest of the palette once they are blocked in, just to smooth things out a bit.

The jump from deep recesses to mid tones feels a bit harsh right now -especially on that one flared fold at the bottom on the back of her coat.

Run a glaze of a mix of a mid brown VMC german camo brown mid with yellow over the coat. It'll have to be increadibly thin but it could richen the colour.

Looking like a good base there Zab. I have Vellejo chipping medium and will pick up the crackle from them as well. I have found the vellejo colours accept being diluted much more readily than GW stuff as I have both.

Thin paint and I tend to use the side of the body of the brush. Thin your paint so it's runny, dab it on a paper towel or cloth or unload some on your thumb and then that should leave the brush just damp. Use the damp brush to build up layer after layer of highlight. On closer inspection it's really just that one fold in the back that I am not happy with. Easy to correct. 2 thumbs up for the "sleep on it" approach!

Oh man life has been kicking my butt so Alice has ground to a halt. I got the stairs done and i know you guys have been waiting for this:

Then mother nature dropped 2 feet of snow on us so my arthritis flared up something fierce after a marathon shoveling session and now I have the flu. It's the kind that actually keeps you from painting because you are shivering so bad.
Oh well, Here is where Alice stands:

Now if you'll excuse me, I have more shivering and sweating to do... Avenge my deathhhhhhhhhhh.....

The stairs look very clean, I especially like the wood grain on the banister, very realistic, you might want to clean up those paint cans...

Have some chicken soup! Alice will wait :)
