Thanks Guys! I feel like I grew a lot on this one and almost don't want to let her go. Funny how my best work is where I let go and have fun or always on minis that either aren't for a purpose or to be given away. Oh well. ~sigh~ So I took a bunch of photos on different backgrounds, but they all do different things to make the lady look good. Is there a stand out among them? Just need to decide for the eBay auction pics & the obligatory C'MON Montage and right now I can't see the forest for the giant stone skull ;)

Anyway, this one was a lot of fun and even on a short deadline (well, short for me). Thanks again for the kind words. :)

Looking so good! you can always bid on your own auction! I like the photos with the redish purple background the best but I might be color blind...lol. I do think you need to go a teeny more under exposed on the front shots. Good work!!!!

Yeah you guys are right AND the black would show the mini on eBay best because of the size limitations there. @ Demi: That's why I don't get too bent out of shape over the pics. Every monitor has different settings and ranges. As long as I get the colours close and the lighting nice (sometimes even dramatic) I'm happy. I have heard that working from RAW files is way easier though. I'll have to give it a try next time...

Yeah, RAW files are the next thing to explore in my own PhotoQuest. Last time it was "Histogram - Hills of Mystery"

RAWs are pretty good, but i think that if you set up your photos right, you can use either format to get a great looking photo with minimal editing. that is what we should aim for in photographing stuff, wether it is minis or other objects. oh and btw, where did you get that background from? i've seen themmentioned and used but i never know where to pick them up from

Yeah i try to get my photos so that i don't have to do much after the import but it's always fun to see what different BGs do to the appearance of colors. I white balanced all these BGs separately, but they all leach certain colors out of the min anyway :) For the BGs I go to flickr search for "free textures" and then print them off in various sizes at posterjack.com If you want to know the specific artists name of any BG I use just shout, as i keep copious records so that I can give credit where it is due.

Owww Im torn I do like the red, but I guess its best for the size limit to go black. She looks amazing Zab you have Push your limits and have been rewarded with a level up in skills!

backgrounds are tricky, but from now on i am mostly going to use black ones. had a photosession last weekend and too really good photos, but many of the photos got ruined because i chosed to colorful backgrounds :( anyway i vote for black too!

Thanks gang! I made montages of all the colours and yeah, not surprisingly black showcases the mini best :p I'll save the coloured BG for my blog - red most likely. DR, the symbol is also the Celtic symbol for Ivy which symbolizes growth, renewal, opportunity, friendship, connection and the strength we all have to carry on regardless of how harrowing our setbacks may have been. It's also why I made the ivy vines so bright in contrast to the rest of the piece. Yes, lame and heavy handed, but it's not just contrast we have to exaggerate with these minis ;)

No, but a brief search reveals that they come in audio book format. Nothing better than "reading" a good book while I paint ;)

Hey Zab, Did you see secret weapon is having a 'weathering' contest? Maybe you should shoot them a photo. I think I am going to send them a cleaned up picture of one of my ork nobs. Probably won't win, but you never know!
