Nice work there Zab, a great crew. wood wise anything that takes your fancy is good, roots will give you a more knotty look once cut up, its usually harder and cooler patterns. You dont even have to buy it, keep your eye out for fallen tree's, ask if you can have some. I get most of my wood from building renovations (easy for me as I do the renovations) but there are all sorts of ways you can get good looking wood, try local building recyclers, play hard ball you could get a steal. There are two very different densities of the same wood, heart and sapwood then everything inbetween. You may have a piece of heart wood there Khonner. DK is right wear a mask!

Thanks everyone. I'm so happy to have done something for a good cause AND now i can cross Ultramarines off my 40k resume!

Blood don't sweat the exotic wood too much you can still do exciting stuff with pine and oak and walnut from lowes and the right set of stains. Hell i've used coffee and tea to get some nice colors out of pine or you can laminate oak and pine together in alternating layers and then cut them into a base which looks cool when stained. Violet over at violet paint has some really cool bases she sprayed black and then colored with colored pencils and then sealed. Just play around and see what you can do, use fire and drills or a dremmel, try soaking the wood and freezing it or baking it or just cut it and leave it out in the sun and elements for a few weeks and see what happens...

Old furniture legs are a good source of plinth too. Next time you are in a bar fight see if can't save one of those chair legs. ;)

Don't joke. I see a lot of dilapidated 100yr old barns on my way up to the cottage and always think of stopping to let the little one feed the cows and distract the farmers with cute questions while I go steal me some barn o_O

Oh boy. I can see a swine squad charging at the sheep with great shears. Gives a +2 to shearing on a charge but always strikes last.

Or perhaps it's a kids version of battle chess with cool little chibi barnyard animal warriors...

Well... now that you mention it. I have been day dreaming about trying to come up with a game that was interesting to little kids and adults at the same time. Like, they are playing candy land and the grown ups are playing Settlers of Catan all on teh same board and the moves the kid-o's do effect the grown-ups and vice versa. You know Memoir '44, which is excellent, started as a game trying to incorporate green army men into some meaningful strategy. Not sure if kid's were involved. I would destroy a ten year old.

That's really cool. Kids being those random little things that make life interesting anyway. Bring that into a structured game the whole family can play is a great idea.

Right! something where the kids play barbarians... or Norse Gods?

New from Milton Bradley, It's that wacky puzzle game Ragnarrok! Where the kids control the awesomely powerful 'chains of fate' and Mom dad just try to keep their village alive! It's fun for the whole family! "Uh oh, Billy's Hounds of Endless Night devoured all the souls of my villagers...I guess i have to call RAGNARROK!"

I started to work on a few bases for some of my projects. i have 3 going right now with the big squig as the main focus but since i was doing wood work i figured might as well get 'em all prepped!

David Annandale is pretty gifted. his work with Yarrick reminds me of the early Gaunts ghosts series -not the the last few, lord those were bad, so... very... bad. And Gav? Well he writes marines okay, but they are pretty one dimensional (especially rage fulled chaplains) but he's actually doing well with the new Dark angels books or maybe my inner DA fanboi is blinding me ;)

Cheers ya'll!

Dam your one busy dude, HA! That is a good thing though. It all looks good, and the little lady you got for 1.20 what is she from? Or is she a random chibi style mini that looks bad ass.

I know right? I have no idea how to "take it easy". She's from garage kits, likely a recast, but maybe not as she did come all the way from Japan. I'm lucky The Lady Inquisitor thinks she's cute because the other day I opened the cupboard of doom and there was an avalanche of resin.

There may have been a raised eyebrow from her direction...:nailbiting:
