Early Snow (minus the snow)
Bit of a departure for me, this one. It's a figure from Dark Sword Miniatures which was generously sent to me to review (thanks Jim). It's based on a piece of artwork by Larry Elmore and is sculpted by Dennis Mize. The mini itself is very impressive. It was well cast and this is imperetive for Darksword as the fineness of detail on them is insane at times. It came on a chunky, solid metal base. I wanted to base it differently, however, so I carved it away and mounted on a round Dark Age base. Painting was quite a departure for me. Due to how fine the figure is, I did something I haven't done in years: I used a white undercoat. Now, I'll be the first to admit I didn't quite nail the paintjob quite as I had hoped (very out of practice at this painting style) but I'm pretty pleased with how she came out. The paintjob was pretty quickly applied. I think she took about 4 hours. As I rather enjoyed painting her, I think I'll be doing a higher end and more meticulous paintjob on another Dark Sword figure at some point. And I think I'll be trying a few more minis over white undercoat too :)
