Demi her face is fantastic! I like the base idea and the sand and dosh look have made it look great. Massive voodoo is a great site, I think next purchase will be 2 lamps for decent shots. Almost finished my bathroom so will be back to painting soon.

Thanks guys, Bailey what is your light set-up? I really want to have better WIP shots. I can get decent shots for the gallery but it takes me a few tries and post processing each time so it's like 2 hours to get a decent photo. I have flourescent work lights and even with make shift diffusers I still get a lot of glare off of flat surfaces.

I should say that last phot is with now lights just daylight from a near by window but you can see i still have a dark spot over the lower part of the fig. Maybe I should break down and pick up a light tent?

Canny, let me know what you decide to go with once you are done in the bathroom.... heh.

Demi, I didn't want to hijack this thread so I wrote a detailed description of my photo setup and lights over on my WIP. It's quick to setup and tear down and the only post-processing I do is crop and resize the images. Hope the info helps!

Dynis looks great. Love the face and potion. It's got loads of character and atmosphere. It makes me want to shout 'NO don't step there!' at my computer screen

Haven't posted here for a while because we moved. to... Sunny Santa Cruz California!

Been working some during the move on the Rackham Dwarves, and Dynis is still on my desk I might try to do more work on her base but I am not sure.

I have really really wanted to get it together to enter something in the 5th dimension blog contest. So a couple of months ago I stayed up late and lurked on e-bay until i found this:

A cheap plastic model kit from the 80's! I really wanted to do something with astronauts and this kit yielded two. I don't think i will ever get around to building the lander so if somebody wants to trade for it or throw me $10 I will send it to them. There is a cool poster of the space shuttle inside, and contest entry form to go to Space Camp, and some gold colored mylar "foil" too... Might put up the poster in the garage.

Oh speaking of which, I got a sweet new garage. I have about double garage space as before with an actual painting spot and sit down airbrush zone! Woohoo!

Here are the intrepid heroes of said drug store model kit, after a quick encounter of the X-acto kind:

One of the 'nauts is going to be KO'ed. I drilled out his helmet and have this funky head from the drunks that came with my Beer and D6's figs that I shelled out for a few months ago. He is supposed to be a medieval bar-fly but I think he will do nicely as a dead and desiccated astronaut:

I am planing on doing a sort of micro-gravity scene with the two astronauts tethered together while they explore a small asteroid. I guess this is going to put me into the story/dio category of the contest which I think means i will be up against Bailey's Olfo Fast Feet. I hope Bailey will be happy with silver...LOL!

Also still working with the camera stuff and I am getting closer but still don't have an ideal WIP photo set-up.

Your creative energy continues to stymie me. If you can turn a 1980s drugstore model kit into a scene out of gravity, I will be truly impressed. The vision alone is commendable. Godspeed Padawan!!!

concerning the WIP photos: Ok dude, consider this nugget of info as good as legal tender. This is your one and only freebie. If you wait until the moon is in the 3 quarters quadrant of the sky, in the waxing gibbous phase typical to the third week of every other month from April to November, and the clouds are in cumulus formation though with low barometric pressure, the conditions are PERFTEC for taking pictures outdoors. trust me.

Sounds like a really cool idea for a scene. And hey, Olfo's had a good run. Astronauts vs Hobbits... I've got to think astronauts have the edge in that battle.

You forgot to mention the part about humidity levels. It can't be higher than 74.6 and no lower than 73.2 on the humidity index.......or was I suppose to leave that part out BFK?

I refused to watch Gravity, until my wife sat me down and said WATCH IT ITS A GOOD MOVIE! And it was so I can't wait to see you turn this one out Demi.

I feel like all Gravity showed me was that George Clooney would rather float off into space and die than spend any time with a woman his own age o_O Maybe I was missing the point though :p

BFoK: Actually I did resort to doing some outside photography just to make sure i wasn't going insane. What an incredible source of light our little star is huh? I think the secret to taking better photos might be more light and less twiddling with the camera settings..

Bailey: I think you have the top score on CMON right now. YOU BEAT CMON!!!! So the hobbit might have the advantage. Congrats on making it to the top 10! That's major. Although I have to say this might be my favorite top 10 mini: http://www.coolminiornot.com/353926 so epic!

Zab: Lady Inquisitor, we know it's you! We are not sure what you had to do to get the account pass codes but you'll never get away with it!

BAM: She will go in the gallery I just want to add something - not sure what - to her base first.

Ok here is my meteor with dude. I am really inspired by (AKA ripping-off) Canny's Orc Shaman base. Putting to work all the times I have poorly placed a mini on a base and they looked like they were floating.

I also made some plinths with plaster in an ice cube mold. They came out pretty sweet. Might be a good idea for your next project. You can get these cubic ice molds off Amazon for pretty cheap. I bet there are cylinders too. I am using the Merlin's Magic dental plaster which is pretty fun stuff. It cures to the density of stone but is very sandable and workable.

My head still hurts. I initially mumbled something like "I could keep her warm" and several hours later when I regained consciousness I was still logged into my account o_O That astronaut one is gonna be awesome BTW!!!

Excellent, original, interesting concept... lookin forward to the visor most of all (i know it's where i'd start with paint), although the mini looks mighty small for detailed reflections i'd love to see what u could do with it. Good luck

You know it! The visor is pretty big and broad. About the same as a Space Marine's shoulder pad and a lot flatter. These guys are 1/48th.

Effin superb job on that visor bro! Perfect amount of dullness to it. Love it.one suggestion though. Clean up the sun a bit. Make a light ring around the sunrise side of Planet maybe. Make the sun whiter. Make it smaller and more regular shaped. This advice may be complete bS just operating from instinct here. Thanks !
