Use the widest angle lens you can and then make a giant light tent out of a cheap set of plain white or off white bed sheets. I do mean giant too. Pick a sunny day and hang that baby up like a tarp that you can stand under to diffuse the sun and snap away.

I'd take a master shot from like a 45 degree top angle. This won't show much detail though so you're going to have to make your money with perspective shots. Meaning a shot from over one guys shoulder, capturing as many minis with as much movement and narration as possible. A challenge, yes, but could be kind of fun. Maybe do some shots with objects in the foreground or background out of focus. Or maybe not cuz this could be easy to mess up. Either way, take more than the 3-4 obligatory pics seen on display bases. Also, check the gallery for large dio pics for inspiration. There is one called the Massacre with a bunch of Scibor dwarfs....check it out...

aand the anime kit has arrived. It's much larger then I thought (more like 1/6, not the 1/8 I thought it will be), but had luck it just fits into the bowl, so I don't have to buy another (larger) one.

Btw it's a weird kit. The head is on 7+ parts. 3 hair, that's normal, the head and a separate upper and lower jaw + tongue. So basically I'll have to build the inside of the mouth too. Weird.

The only thing I'm unsure about is how many parts to assemble. It looks like it'd be best to paint the parts completely piece by piece, but then at assembly I'll have to do a lot of gap-filling + repainting the connections.

Hey congrats on the triple New and Notable paint jobs! Great work!

As for your milk bowl why not fill the bowl with expanding foam from the hardware store and then do the last 1/2 with resin? Resin with a few drops of white paint will look just like milk... You could also make a merengue from egg whites. That should last pretty much forever if you keep it dry but will have a slightly foamy texture. Finally you could use plaster and pour it in there then paint it to look like milk.

funny thing is, that what I originally wanted:
- some filler to make it cheaper
- resin tinted with white on top for the liquid effect.

so basically what you describe :)

I was at a local store, when I asked around for fillers, they showed me a relative cheap one (1kg for 5 euro) which was a powdery something to be mixed with water to get there. Then it dawned on me: why t.f. don't I use simply plaster ?
So I went with that. It costed about 2 euro for 2 kg-s (for the bowl I needed about 1/3rd of a kg, so I have spare for walls, scenery and whatnot).

But I don't know if I can finish it this week.
-For one the long-lost Relic Knight box has arrived. Yesterday it took 4 hours to sort through the boxes and contents and I've finished with about half. (so far 4 boxes had missing pieces). I think today evening will be taken up by the other half.
- and a friend asked me to write an MQL program... so most likely that'll take up the rest of my evenings.

So in the other topic about colors Bailey03 helped out with the nurgle dread, but here is my try on the orange-purple-green triad.
View attachment 30836

It may not be the best, but I think it works better than expected.
(flesh (hands, head) is purple, robe is green, armor is orange with the black parts having purple edges)

And the anime kit I've been working on (I think I'll call it "Good Moring" :D ):

I'll add a few totally transparent layers of resin/water, but mostly it'll stay how it is now. Of course I'll try to take a better picture, not sure that I'll succeed.

What are you going to accomplish with the transparent layers of resin and water? Just curious.

and that horrid triad of pallet colors seems to be working somehow...

Love the kitten, the triad of colors is weird only due to the green though. I think the green needs a bit more color saturation. Feels a bit too muted compared to the others. They are pastel, but not muted so much.

Today was the "inspiration modellbau" in Mainz. As it is only about 30 min. away with a train I decided to go and look at the models done mostly by clubs / hobbyists in Hessen.
The focus is mostly military and 1/72, so not much was for us (sci-fi, fantasy, 28mm or larger models), but still some pretty awesome dioramas and figures could be seen.

Pics I've taken (yes, I still suck at taking pics):

funniest moment of the day was when someone asked Andreas if the minis he and Patrick brought are really hand painted or not. And they were amazed by the precision without airbrush.
It was funny for me, because imho for THAT look an AB is not precise enough, that can be done only with a brush.

I have to admit that the color triad on the demon came out better then I was seeing it in my head. Way to rise to the challenge!! (applauds). Next, I'll have to challenge you to use electric neon blue, with pepto-bismol pink trim, and orange and lavender spots,...

I took pictures of both the CatGirl and Holo from the Anime-kit challenge, that's still going.
I consider both finished as they are varnished and all.

And a 'small' pic on how I made the extra apples.
View attachment 32043

The steps:
1. form a sphere from your choice of putty (I used Miliput)
2. make the sphere a little longer and with a colorshaper push in both sides
3. primed white
4. airbrushed VMC-Deep Yellow
5. airbrushed a band of VGC-Blood Red
6. painted in stripes of a dark brownish red , here I used GW-Baal Red Wash (ArmyPainter-Red Ink is also a super sustitute) . Pushed in parts got a brown wash to hide the yellow color.
6.5 I added thinned GW-RedInk (from the 2000 era, before the washes and foundations) to unify the colors a little.
7. gloss varnish it
+1 the apple with the bite (for Zab, as he suggested it): I took a chunk out in step 2 and after the varnish I painted it VMC-Buff, then added a little GW-GryphonSepia to make the edges browner.

Nope I must say I don't like the bitten apple, so I left it out from the base. I'll likely toss it to the trash, but still was good to learn a bit about sculpting and painting it (even if unsuccessful).

edit: there is one green apple on holo's base. It's basically the same, but instead of BloodRed it got Scorpion Green, and instead of BaalRed stripes it got VGC-BlackGreen / GW-Devlan Mud spots before a layer of VMC-Green Transparent have hidden everything... :D
