It so happens that there will, although he has nothing to do with the parrot! My parents gave me some money for my birthday and I got this beauty from LeBeN Models.

Ah, a DR bust...
Some really great textures there for you to get your brush between. I picture him with milky, blind eyes. Just a consideration.

My photos are a bit quick and dirty this time but they show how things are going.

On the whole I'm now feeling more confident about bringing together the elements of this project and finish them off to a satisfactory standard in time for Euro Militaire. I've had a full weekend of parrot painting and that means I've made some good progress. With the exception of a little tidying up here and there only the blue areas remain to be painted. After that there is a lot of shine from the vallejo paints that needs to be fixed but that isn't a great problem and can be sorted out with a little matt medium.

Mighty fine work as always, the face is so lifelike on the parrot I'd swear he just asked for a cracker

How are you going to use the mm to kill the shine? Are you going to just paint some on by itself?

Yes, it was recommended to me and when I tested it out next to several matt varnishes I found that the matt medium gave the best (in my opinion) result. It needs to be painted on in a very thin layer as it dries very slowly but it gives great flat finish.
Love the parrots face, great details and attention to detail. I know if I was painting this mini by the time I got to the parrot I would be rushing things, so +1 mate on keeping the quality so high
That is always the danger as a project nears completion and I'm having to force myself to slow down and not rush. In the past I've botched a few minis at the final stages so hopefully the burnt hand teaches best:excruciating:.

Good advice there, on not rushing things at the end. I think my last submission suffered from this. It comes from a desire to get feedback on the finished piece and mode onto another project. Nothing feels better than having a freshly primed and sanded mini; the blank canvas. Possibilities abound!
I will have to try out this Matt medium technique you speak of. Do you just keep an eye out for areas that are too glossy? Or do you hit the entire mini with it because it makes all if it look better? I know that certain colors from certain manufacturers always dry too gloss. Like chaos black for GW. Or most inks from my manufacturer. Basically, what is your strategy with using the mathew medium?

I apply the matt medium only where it is needed. In the case of the parrot that is pretty much all over! But on Uncle John I only painted it over his shirt.
