Digga, I was thinking of a conversion of this lady:

All this talk about Golden Demons really makes me want to figure out how to enter something next year. Sadly I do not see a trip to Europe in the cards for me for a few years.

If anyone has a Forgeworld Elspeth on Dragon they want to sell. PM me.

It's been slow going in Mini land. There's been a lot of family stuff lately but hopefully should get some hobbying going this week and next. On the other hand being kept from my hobby keeps me hungry, and helps my focus when I do sit down with the brushes. Did get some work done on Joanie:

Getting a lot more confident with my white paint after the astronauts. Tried to get a nice highlight here on the white stripe and the red. What do you think?

I am going to basically stick with the box art for her color scheme. Hopefully I will be able to pull off the white on grey. I started on her belly plates and hopefully I won't have to cme back and adjust them much once I get everything else in place. That is a lot of white though. Getting her cyber waist parts nice and shiny.

Here is another picture of her belly. She has some bad casting on some of the plates. You can see it at the narrow part of her waist. I am trying to paint it out. Lately, I have been a lot more confident in painting thing how I want them to look instead of how they are sculpted. Like the guns on the fusilier squad. This defect probably could have used some putty, but I think painting stuff straight even if it is a little crooked is a good skill to have. It's taken me a while to figure out that it's an option.

I also did a little more work on her face and eyes. I think I lost most of the blue in her eyes but the reflections look nice so I am going to keep it here.

Also got some work done on my display stand for the squad.

Check out that freehand:

It's a DECAL! I got a bunch of model train graffiti decals off of e-bay. They lay up pretty nice on the corrugations I think. Am going to add some more decals and then get some actual freehand on there.

Joan is shaping up nicely The highlight on the shoulder pad is top quality.
As for the Dragon suspended on fire I'll see what I can come up with( might be my Dragon for 2015) did a conversion based on that concept many years ago so starting from scratch should actually be easier ( Sorry Digga )

I think Demi replaced one of his eyes with a cyber eye to get her eyes so good. It the only logical explanation. If that's not it could you please tell me how you did those eyes too please.

My all time favorite dragon miniature. They sell her without the rider too. Hey, did you notice that FW got rid of some badass fantasy minis, but at the same time made a few new units? A few monsters and then some skaven units. Idk how long ago this happened, but kinda bummed cuz Tamurkhan on his giant toad dragon are now gone. Tears...really wanted to paint the toad dragon and convert a new rider (cuz Tam sucked). Even more troubling, their once 450 pound$ giant mammoth is gone!!! That was going to eventually be the pinnacle of my painting. Some really cool dioramas made from it if you do a search here on CMON.

The he fire floating dragon is another one of your great ideas. Need to hire you to just think of basing ideas for me.

Please, try to make it to Crystal Brush this year. Myself (work dependent), BaM, Khonner, and D. Powell are going. You?

Make sure to sand the edges of those decals and then varnish before beginning to free hand.

Great face and nice highlight. Care to share how you done it?

Alexandra, I closely followed Bailey's step by step from here:

http://powellminipainting.blogspot.com/p/painting-skin-tones.html

I used teh first recipe, then added Reaper Violet Red and pale Violet to the Chestnut Brown to build up the make-up on the cheeks lips and below the eye-brow. For right around the eye I added Walnut Brown and Ritterlich Blue to the Chestnut Brown to get that "eye-liner"

Chestnut Brown is very close to the artist color burnt sienna. Walnut Brown and Ritterlich Blue are super dark super saturated colors that still seem to be very transparent.

I also really like this article from chest of colors:

http://chestofcolors.com/how-to-paint-faces/

If you scroll all the way down the last face is a Werner Klocke sculpt that I think is a pretty good bench mark of how female faces are typically sculpted. Placing the "rouge", or cheek make-up, is a big deal I think. If it were a mans face i would put a big line there, but the cheek make-up blends the cheek bone into the face and adds contrast.

I also did a ton of prep and sanding on this one to get a nice smooth starting place.

Getting her chest plate done. i am really tempted to go darker for a full chrome look but that is note really in keeping with my theme. I do want to save something for when everything is all painted. I also have the purple shadow tint color to play with. I think I got the shadows in the right place though :)

Now that you've backed the photo up to true viewing distance (TVD-just coined it now in real time) I can see just how excellent that phase, and other parts, truly is. Really, really good job bro. You are fast becoming a jack of all trades.

Full chrome! Full chrome! Full chrome!

Or or just leave it how it is because you have pulled it off.
