Why not do a historical throwback and do her cloak like that of a french knight from that bygone era?

Shoulder pad looks great would put a small pure white back into it to finish it off. As for the cloak like the idea of carbon fibre

Agree here. It looks really authentic in the first pic where I'm not sure if it has any colored glaze on it yet. Yes, you did an excellent job of glossy black, I'll have to keep that technique in mind...

Dude if you can pull off urban digital OR carbon fiber weave both of those sound incredible. I can't even imagine the latter. Where is her cloak? Haven't seen it yet have we?

Well, this would have helped about a month ago:

The workshop was good fun. Nice to connect with local gamers and got to tour the Secret Weapon Industrial Complex. He is basically doing the same sort of casting some of us do on a bigger scale, with like, employees. The big take away from the airbrush workshop for me was to keep at it. Practice makes perfect and nicely thinned paint is your friend. (Daler Rowney artist inks!) If you are having trouble with your airbrush and it's not a clog you need to adjust your pressure then maybe your technique. He just thins his paint with water because that is what the paints are designed for. If you add so much water that you start to get spider legs you need to decrease pressure and increase your drying time between poofs.

Here is a pic of my first pass at the digi camo. Did this with a brush but I think it might be pretty easy to do with my airbrush and some window screen as a mask. Needs to be cleaned up but you get the idea:

Also did the freehand on the shoulder pad. It's frikkin' small! I am going to try to coat it with gloss varnish then matte varnish to try and smooth it out a little. Got a little thick in spots

Excellent..better n better every mini. You hit a point where you feel you can just paint anything. I call it zen painting.remember when we were you get and started and there were only certain models we'd paint and we would say I wish I could just paint anything...well your at the zen level so you just make sure you do one thing and that is...... ENJOY IT!!! GREAT JOB ON THESE.

Love that freehand, you must have used one brush hair !
have you a chance to dot the odd little highlight before varnish ? It will give it that extra little punch.

Thanks guys. I decided it was a little clunky and i did just take that airbrush class...

@Zab, So, her real coat of arms, which the internet says was actually given to her brothers, was 2 gold fluer de lis flanking a gold sword on a light blue background. Joan actually never used that in battle. She actually went into battle with, get this, a big ass painted standard. Her standard had Christ holding a white lily flanked by two female angels. The angels were the two that talked to Joan in the first place. A blue fluer de lis might have been cool.

On the other hand, WITNESS THE POWER OF MY FULLY OPERATIONAL AIRBRUSH STATION:

Little mask wis some mesh fabric... still needs some glazes but this is what we are going with :)

Joan is looking good. I like how the armor is turning out. I'm sorry I missed the airbrush class, I could have definitely used it!

I'm not sure about everyone else, but I'm getting a broken image icon on your previous post.

Bailey! There you are! I have been having to go it alone on my 50 shades of Weathered Stone project over here. Congrats on 3rd (!) place on the 5th Dimmension contest!

Here is the pic again. Keeping the free hand, redid the cloak:

Hey, thanks! Yeah I wasn't on too much last week.

I like your use of the mesh mask. I saw Chris Clayton do something similar on his HUSH tutorial. Sure beats trying to freehand that!

No progress on Joanie, but I should be able to paint for a couple of hours tonight.

I did want to congratulate everyone that placed in the 5th Dimension contest. I did not place with my Alien Fart Bubbles piece, but I have to say it really really pushed me to do something that I would not have done otherwise and it was great fun. Also, the competition was pretty solid. Check it out if you haven't already:

I also entered Alien fart bubbles in a Reaper forum contest and WON! 1st place :) The prize you ask? About a metric crap load of old school minis from some 90's era Canadian time capsule. Check it out:

Hmm, now if only I knew someone that loved old school minis... Oh wait! That's ME! YAY!

I have to say I feel like I really made out. All of these minis, while slightly dated, are really top quality. It kind of makes me wonder if I should quit buying minis off of e-bay since everything I usually get from there has giant mold lines. Here is the list of what I got:

VOID Syntha Sentinel 2000 Grav Bike
VOID Syntha Hunter-Killer 2000 Grav Bikes

VOID Viridian Marine Scout Sergeant
VOID Viridian Maximillian Helghas
VOID Viridian Marine Scout

VOID VASA Knight of the Spirit
VOID Koralon Vakar - Arakton Champion
VOID Koralon Gorgora - Arakton Champion
VOID Junkers Berserker Sergeant
VOID Junkers Censor Cato
VOID Junkers Vulture Standard Bearer
VOID Koralon Devi - Arakton Champion
VOID Koralon Shiva - Arakton Champion
VOID Koralon Skellack - Arakton Champion
VOID Syntha Marine Sergeant
VOID VASA Archangel Sergeant
VOID VASA Captain Zed
VOID VASA Knight of the Fury
Warzone Nepharite of Demnogonis #2

The VASA female cyber knights and the Viridian lizard riding scouts are particularly screaming out for paint. So I guess i know what I will be doing in 2015!
