That looks very good. Are you using a zenithal look as the shadows look very clean

StuartH Thanks for taking a look and welcome to the forums! To be honest I don't know what the hell I am doing :) I suppose I am using a zenithal technique, but any clean shadow is because I am driving myself nuts trying to get all my adjoining colors perfect and all of my blends just right. I did start this lady with an airbrush spray of dark color (purple) from below and light color (light grey) from the top over black primer. As I paint I try to imagine a light ( the sun) coming down from her left front, about 1 o'clock, when place my shadows and highlights.

It has been slow going on Joanie.

I spent about 3 sessions on her upper arms. I do like how they turned out, but getting OCD on blending and shading does not a happy Demihuman make. They Reaper Master Series Rainy Grey to Weathered Stone to Leather White to Pure White with some very light glazes of Amethyst Purple and Imperial Purple.

I started her hair and the yellow blonde color is working nicely with my purple shade/glaze color. This should have been my plan all along, but feels more like a happy coincidence. I did try something different on her hair. I usually paint it all white, then do a light wash followed by a dark wash. This time I painted the hair all white, glazed in my shadow color purple and magenta mixed with a pinch of the yellow, then retouched might highlights with white and finally, washed with yellow. I also had to redo to clean up a mold line. The hair still needs highlights and a reapplication of shadows. So far, so good.

I also took a whack at the black shoulder pad. I have been thinking a lot about some of the really graphic glossy NMM out there and I wanted to try a pure black to pure white reflection on the black shoulder pad. I think I pulled it off, but now I need to tone it down because it is overpowering for the piece. I have to remember to ration out those pure white highlights. Should be easy enough to knock down the pure white reflection to off-white and still get my point across. Also started on the very fiddly freehand on her black shoulder. Mostly because i could not bring my self to start on the Darker NMM armor...

Looks beautiful. Careful not to burn out on one mini. Take a break and whip out a fun and fast one if you feel bogged down, but want to keep the painting mojo up.

@ Canny-Scan that book for me will ya :)

Demi, it's looking great. My advice on the chrome shoulder pad would be to add more mid tone. It sorta goes from black to a mm of gray to white. You needs some dark gray, codex gray, then light gray to ease the transition. You can still keep it a predominantly black piece if you maximize the darker end of the mid tone. Meaning use a lot of dark gray and dark dark gray. Anyway, g'luck and Godspeed on a wonderful mini.

Any work done on your Reaper Giant?

Thanks guys! I glazed a little purple on there and it looks just fine. Nice and contrastic, (your welcome) but not too bright. Started on the darker NMM and it is going much faster. Thank the Gods!

Canny sighting! W00T!

BFoK: I really wanted to get the look of gloss black, so the greys are there but very brief. I have got some work done on the Reaper Giant. It is coming along but I am at the point were I have all the pieces and I need to try and fit them on my base. I need to just bight the bullet, and start gluing things together.

She is small but not as bad as some of the infinity figs.

Ah I see. Gloss black. Not chrome. Yes, I always think if the color spectrum line thingy that you see on Massive Voodoo for instance when they talk about painting black. Depending on how dark or light I want my black, I picture the whole spectrum. Like a dark black would be like 40 percent pure black, then 30 percent very dark gray, then 20 percent dark gray, then ten percent gray. It helps me focus on not only how dark or light to make my black, but also how much of each tone is included in the transition.

Excited for the Secret Weapon Airbrush workshop tomorrow... What! - Excited to see Webmonkey there!

I have to say it got me off my @ss to give my air brush a good deep cleaning and that might have improved my airbrushing as much as a workshop... Sheesh, there was so much crap inside that thing.

Did some more work on Joan:

This is really the look I was going for on the shoulder pad. Looks nice and glossy but is actually matte matte matte. I added some lavender glaze to tone it down. I think it looks good. I do wonder if it really goes with the rest of the mini. Maybe I should tone it down a little more to tie tit in? Maybe a nick of battle damage might do the trick.

There is a little soft focus helping me out, but I will take it!

Also cracked-out on the free hand. Getting close!

Thinking about her cloak now. Maybe some kind of black on black digital camo? Carbon fiber weave? Ideas?
