Thanks all!

Getting some more work done on Joanie. I am in the home stretch here. Trying hard not to get impatient and rush it at the end. Got her cloak/towel thing done except for any color glazes i will do at the end. I also started on her sword. I tried to follow Mr. Giraldez airbrush step-by-step and got to a decent table top and will now glaze that to where I want it.

I really need to finish the hair. It is kind of distractingly yellow right now.

Edited to fix the pix....

Here is a little SBS on the sword. Started with Brick Red Clear Magenta and Pure White, then glazed in some Rainy Grey to tone it down a little and then went back in and added Pure White and Brick Red again. I am going for a look of a glowing piece of metal as opposed to a Space Marine style power weapon. What do you think?

I am a little confused about what is going on with the image posting. Whatever I usually have done isn't working now. It seems like I can only add photos as an attachment and insert inline. Instead of just inserting. I know other people are experiencing the same thing. Is there a fix for this?

She looks great! I really like the armor and the sword is very well done too!

As for the photos, seems like that's one of several issues CMON is having right now. When I recently tried the normal insert photo from computer thing it puts the photos both in the body of my post and also as an attachment. On my last WIP post I just put the pictures up on my blog and then did the insert photo from URL. I had to unclick the check box about referencing locally or else I had the same double post attachment thing.

Dude she is seriously very very well done. When did you improve all of the sudden? Not saying you weren't great before, but I see an obvious increase in skill here. The holster looks great, and kind of represents what I am talking about.

Thanks guys!

an't believe I got a couple of hour painting session in! Had to blow-off work and drug the baby but there you go!

Here is a shot of the final final sword blade. And I started to work on that hair. WGS not sure if I want natural blonde or not. She is an important propaganda figure for her faction so maybe kind of Hollywood blonde, but with purple shadows :)

Thanks man. I am really trying to push myself on this one. She is the one year on CMON Anniversary paintjob. And Bailey said I have to paint all "9's" now

Well, short of you effing up the base, this is clearly a top mini. Outstanding work. What really impresses me, you seem to have control of color theory on this one. It all works together seamlessly. You are going beyond the three color pallet here, using colors that normally have no business together, yet it seems very natural.

Amazing what one year can do, eh? I am at 8 months myself. But truly dude, you should be extremely proud of this.

Speaking of Dave Powell, among a few others, I'd really like to meet the two of you at some competition or another. What are the odds of you making Crystal Brush 2015 in Chicago this Spring?

Once we catch up to Bailey a bit, I propose the start of a painting crew. west west y'all!!!

Finally, are you up to a bit of a friendly challenge?

Thanks All!

BFoK, let's see if we can get her finished first. :)

I am up for friendly challenges, but I have to say things have been a little touch-and-go around the house lately. I am not going to commit to any more projects until after the new year.

As far as some sort of painting affiliation, it sounds neat, especially if we get cool t-shirts! On the other hand travel is not really on the horizon for me, and a big part of the attraction to mini painting is that I can do it on my own, and take it or leave it with out being out a ton of money and energy. I do have an idea for some sort of a blog roll project though. I see a lot of really great posts and blogs that seem to get lost in the noise and it might be a fun project to try and make a little web digest for that... someday. Like, after my kids can both wipe their own asses. :)

Yes, west coast painters unite!

Congrats on the 1 year WIP thread mark. And pushing yourself is clearly paying off. This is some really excellent painting!

We need to get you to next year's Bay Area Open. Then it's just a simple matter of winning the painting competition and you get a free round trip flight to the Crystal Brush. Should be easy enough. Are there any more Crystal Brush Qualifier events out west? There's one in Colorado but the BAO is the only CA one I'm aware of.

Awesome work throughout the thread! Lovely work on the chick, I really like the colors and the paintjob on the blade.. And man, that space diorama is nothing less than brilliant!

Keep up the great work! :)

Thanks Esco!

BFoK: I think teh thing that is working on the holster is a glaze of the holster color on the armor to make it look like the armor is reflecting the holster. Ties it in, gives you a nice outline and a realistic look too.

Got the hair finished last night. Turns out blonde hair doesn't have much yellow in it. Mostly just shades of brown and grey. Thought about a pink streak in the hair, but I think I am going to skip it.

I also started on the little orange LEDs all over her armor. I think they look OK if you don't stare at them. If you focus on them they are a little much. They are true to the mini and the box art though. Speaking of box art, I PM'ed Angel Giraldez on his Giraldez Studios Facebook page. Mr. Giraldez is the head painter for Corvus Belli, and he was gracious enough to respond! He wrote:

"you're very kind, thanks this one was a old paintjob, when I painted this miniature, I painted the sword with grey color then CB wanted the sword in red so I applied washes with red so you can see that this sword has some grey"

"about your paintjob, WOW, very nice "

"You're making a stunning paintjob,well done "

How about that! I love the compliments, obviously, but I am really blown away again and again by how supportive our little community is. He didn't even have to respond, right? But he did and was super nice and told me how he did the greys on the sword!

He has some great stuff on his facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/StudioGiraldez

And he is coming out with a book pretty soon so keep an eye out.

The hair turned out great Demi, very natural blonde. I like the orange LED's you've done, did you miss one on the top of her thigh next to the holster or is it a similar looking detail ?
