Wow! Those tattoos really came out nice! I love the way they interact with the blood. Did you touch up the rest of his skin too? it seems like the tattoos set off some of the warmer colors in the skin shadows. Could be better pictures though I guess.

I am loving the Guide Captain. Really capturing the peacock aspect of the era. IT's bizarre to think of these pretty serious soldier types getting all decked out in their finery.

Yeah, Silverwulfe, this hobby can really suck you in. As far as 'groups on the internet' go, the modeling community tends to be pretty welcoming, supportive, and helpful.

Thanks, Teronus and Demi. I continued to do some minor tweaks to the skin, but nothing major. Some of the photos turned out a bit more dull/yellow than others. So that could be the difference you're seeing. Either way I think the blue in the tattoos is a nice contrast to the red-brown-orange tones for the rest of the figure.

In other news, I think Lord Fancy Pants... I mean the Officer of the Guide is finished. I painted the rest of the black sections and took care of the gold details on the hat. I also added those fiddly spurs to the back of his boots. Not much of a connection point, so I put them on last to avoid knocking them off and losing one forever. After all that I applied some pigments for a light dusting. Just a bit on his shoes, knees, and a touch here and there. He's an officer so I figure he'd be pretty clean. Unless I see (or you all notice) something amiss I think this guy is all wrapped up. I'm thinking he will be one of my Crystal Brush entries. He'd fit into the large scale category and also be eligible for the Pegaso special award (they're a sponsor so there's a decent chance they will do one). I've got a couple other 75mm scale figures on their way to me, so there are other options. One is another Pegaso Napoleonic that I won in a contest I didn't even know I'd entered. A friend told me about imodeler.com, it's mostly vehicles but I thought why not post some of my figures anyway. Turns out they vote on a monthly best in show and my guys won. It comes with a kit for the prize and, while I was expecting a tank or plane based on the sites focus, they were really nice and sent me a figure instead.

And I'm adding a few close up shots so you can get a better look at the details. The pictures above are decent sized, but the figure is 75mm so there's a lot there

Why is the knee turned orange on these pictures, on the last ones I didn't see that?

Have fun at CB, I just wish I had more $ to go, Maybe next year who knows. I am glad we have you in the North american gang, we guys are small compare to the Europeans. GO GUYS!

Ah, those are some dry pigments to give him a bit of weathering. I applied a bit to his knees and boots so he'd be just a little dirty. I'm using Secret Weapon's Burning Sands and Dark Yellow plus MiG's Gulf War Sand. It's nice to work in a couple different pigment shades to give it a bit of color variation. The effect is subtle, but the end result looks better if it's not all the exact same pigment color.

I guess the combination of the yellows over the red made the knee look a bit orange.

"Quality, not quantity." Shortly thereafter Zab was never heard from again. EVERYONE suspected some kind of European agency behind it all... evidence however, was hard to find :agent:

Well, as long as you're not dissing on North Korea you should be safe.

And, unfortunately those European painters seem have to have a pretty high quantity of quality. But don't worry, the North American painters will be a force to be reckoned with before those Europeans know it!

One day I will get out to euro-militaire or one of the other big overseas shows, but sadly it is going to be a little while before it happens. Of course you're all encouraged to come to Chicago for the 2017 World Expo. I'll be there!

Hmmm... well, based on comments here and elsewhere I guess the base is still a work in progress. I was keeping it somewhat simple but I guess it still needs a little something.

You might use very diluted colors for the figures on the side, or mixed with base colour just to give the a shade of another color very week one and more shadows on the base and it should be fine. I think .

Maybe a few grains of dirt or sand on the base? I would say a cannon ball would look good but I don't see how you could get one on there. Maybe some Egyptian loot? You could also add some tiny patches of color to the hieroglyphics. I like the black cravat. I was wondering what you were going to do with that. Ties in the (giant) hat nicely. Love that you could flex some color muscle on this guy and keep him looking good.

The cravat ties in nicely. See what I did there? :)

Ha, I also appreciate the explanation in the edit. Yeah, the cravat could have been white or black, but I think black worked better.

I thought I'd use some washes/glazes to add some more color variation to the sides of the column and the figures there. I can also go in and strengthen the shadows and highlights on the column. I want to keep the base simple. This guy is a scout so I don't think it needs a lot of extra details. But it can use some more interesting coloring/shading.

Ha, now that would be one tough scout. Yes sir, I located the enemy. They didn't look that tough so I took them on single handed and here is their captured banner.

I'd love to try for that.....IF my plans work out I'll be retired then, so it could be a 'possibility'

Only reason I asked was it seemed too clean.
Not having been to Egypt I only have photos to act as reference and the seem to suggest that the stone has picked up some "Darker" wind blown material over the years. Definitely not rain streaks though!.

yeah, having been to egypt, I remember the stone and sand being quite white but had a terracotta colour also. I think a few pigments to make it look a little dusty is in order too. My biggest memory was walking out of the hotel and into the street, the heat was like opening an oven door. duno how you will manage that! A few darker terracotta patches maybe to force some shadows.

Not that you need to be told how to do things :p I just saw your laten guy is No2 for top 10 this year!

Well according to my Sharpe's Rifle's books Napoleonic Era Scouts were the predecessors of today's special forces. So maybe not too much of a stretch. I mean if he is playing sneaky peaky dressed like that...

You have of course read the Sharpe's Rifles books I assume.
