Grab the bull by the horns and darken up the tattoo. Don't be timid because the freehand was great!!! I'd probably do the same just from fear of not being confident in my freehands.
With the skin, I'm not sure how WIP it is, but a couple notes that may help you out. If not please completely disregard. Go with some dark shades, staying relatively desaturated and towards the flesh part of your pallet. Nothing wrong with red Browns or greenish yellows or orangish tan, etc. Next, add some saturated bright colors in a very diluted glaze. Place this in bends and rounded areas, but near and part of the shadows. This builds depth.
Next is your highlights. They appear chalky, and I daresay this may be resulting from over-dilution? I find that the lighter the shade, the less I need to dilute. I think you need an intermediate tone between the light shade and your midtone, and this may help blend it all in better. Also, I'm not so certain about the placement and shape of some of your lights. But again, slap me if this is too early in your process.
The face looks great. Anyway, some advice that may or may not suit you.
