bgcdazzler's first ever mini WIP (a confusion of cockups and learnings)

Obviously we're pleased! If they ain't in the oven yet, I'd suggesting trying to give some of them a bit of bend in the bodies. But they look gross & cool.

Wow! This looks bloody excellent. I did life sculpting years ago and the way you've built up the form is exactly as my tutor would have done it. The only thing I'd say is try rolling out the filmo for the skin a little more (never worked with it so I have no idea if that's even possible. It looks Great just a tiny bit too thick. The effort paid off on the maggots, they really help enhance the whole head

Thanks Darth, everyone. I do worry about it being too thick and clumsy-looking, but hopefully that improves with each attempt.

Right then: any more requests? I'm moving onto the neck and shoulders but if there are any more gross things your evil minds can collectively imagine then I'm up for more changes!

Ear improvement from your last try! ;) Also hair is much much better imo this time.
Great tips on doing things in different colours.
Yuck... now is starting to be discusting... xD

Maggots? Bravo. I actually like the hair v1 better than v2 as it gave him a Gordon Ramsey vibe. But hair v3 is great. Love watching your skill constently improving.

Thanks BaM (I think) :)

@krule - aw, a Gordon Ramsay zombie would be awesome, carrying a big cleaver.

@mrjim - thanks. I'm considering casting this up, depending on whether I cock it up or not. Keep an eye out!

And here's the next update on Maulgy's base.

First up: I made a little fishy.

he tucks in nicely in the shade of the rock here:

of course a fish needs some water to swim in, so time for a bit of resin! (Gulp)

So made a little frame for it:

which leaked everywhere. Damn. Plus I should have made it with plastic not coated card, as it left a print on the resin. Bugger.

Ah well: here it is now, plenty of sanding and polishing to do to get it better, but for a first try I'm quite pleased.

and then the big question (I know some of you expressed concern about this at the beginning... Well, I worried bout it too)....

does the base overshadow Maulgy? Is it too much?

quick check:

hmm. I don't know.

I I think he looks okay - he's still very much on top of the base, and his rock kinda makes him stand apart from the rest... But honestly I'm just too close to it to make a judgment on it. Your views will be much appreciated!

I'm sure it will dude. You are improving at an astounding rate which is really great to see.

Not to sure about the base to mini size. It is pretty big but I think you've got away with it. It does seem like all of your action and focus is on one side though. Maybe put a few 'Easter eggs' for the viewer to find, help to draw them through the scene

Hey bgcdazzler, that zombie is really starting to come together nicely.
I don't have the history to Maulg, but if that is meant to be a base for the mini then it might be a little much... On the other hand, I think it is a really awesome diorama and certainly wouldn't exchange it for anything simpler.

Maybe a bird on the top of the tree, then you willhave a nice triangle of items: Maug, pig, and the tree. Malifaux has a nice buzzard and Figone has a parrot that comes with pirate Maug.

Hmm. A good idea. I could add a branch maybe and do a vulture? That way it has a stake in the game: whether pig or Maulgy wins, the vulture would still get meat. Plus he's sort of look like a referee.

I think the base works beautifully. It isn't a showcase for your work on Maulg or on the model itself, but makes for a great vignette. I really like this D!

Thank you Arch, everyone. I've been sanding the resin and will save the pics until it's all done (unless I go mad and decide to make a vulture).

tonight's fun was to finish the zombie. Making him in different colours was quite fun: almost don't need to paint him now!

let me know if you see any issues or if you think I need to add something to him.

Ughhhhhhh I knew I shouldn't have looked here before bed. That zombie maggot eye ewwww. Well, I am loving how everything is turning out. From malgy base to the zombie.

Hahaha he looks great! I really like all the different textures you've worked into him. If it was me I'd go back in once more and define the folds in the fabric a little, especially the creases around his armpit. While they look great they're not quiet up to the same level of finish as the rest of the sculpt

He looks great. :good: I would widen the lapel on the intact side (his right) if you're aiming for a suit jacket.
