Even without colour your sculpts look like painted works of art. Is this a Funny coincidence or is there some deeper thought behind it?

I would love to see all four.

I feel like he is cursed by looking so cuddly but being infectious, perhaps the apocalypse can be avoided if they just got a hug :) good stuff and a refreshing take on him

Well Famine and Death are left as War and Pestilence have been done. If I was to start one which would you like to see Arch? Because you got me thinking about this.

Thank you for the lovely compliment Schwarz-Brot. :D

Of the two I've posted recently I did end up painting the dragon. But the Fimo clay does come in various colours so I have been playing with using the colour of the clay to get a particular look on Pestilence. Unfortunately I can't always get my hands on a lot of colours, so I end up paying with what I've got. I'll probably carry on playing with subsequent works. If any of my others look like painted works of art it's probably a coincidence.

@Sicks - Maybe that's what makes him so dangerous. You want to hug him, but that would prove to be a fatal cuddle. :) I'm glad you like him my friend.

@Digga - Oooh. I'm positively thrilled that I've inspired some possible sculpting shenanigans in you. I'd give you Famine and Death to WGS. Remember to make it in your style! And keep me posted! I love your stuff.

Some Thoughts from the ArchArad

Pestilence has been posted off to Dazzler. :)

Before I begin the main part of this post I'd like to take a moment to thank you all for your enthusiasm and support of my sculpting experiments. I know that my updates have become rather sporadic, but you've stuck with me and that is just made of awesomesauce.

On to the main event:
I've been thinking about the fact that I've been doing a hell of a lot more sculpting than painting recently. And I just want to assure people that I have not given up on the painting side of things. I've always been someone who throws herself headlong into whatever project has the most appeal at any one time. But I always circle back around to other passions. It may come from my being bipolar type II.

About twelve years ago now my life fell apart in a most spectacular fashion and after a while I was diagnosed with bipolar type II. At the time it meant I had to quit my Masters degree and return home to live with my parents. So life got put on hold for a while as I slowly learned to deal with this new reality and my meds got adjusted until they found what works for me. During that time reading, writing, computer games and art (in the form of watercolour and then acrylic painting) kept me going.

It's also why I'm studying undergraduate level courses at 35 again.

I'm pretty good these days and when I have the odd "wobble" I know how to deal with myself. I also have my fabulous man, family and friends like YetiSA and his wife who've been there for me through it all. And now you guys have joined the ranks of great individuals who make me smile and keep me motivated.

Miniature painting and sculpting have become great ways for me to focus my manic energy and cheer up when I'm feeling lousy. So I'm not going to give up either. Energy just seems focused on sculpting at the moment.

To everyone who gives me their honest feedback, advice, encouragement and enthusiasm for my work: Thank You. You make this hobby even more enjoyable and good for me.

Extra note: Interestingly my bipolar developed, in part, because of an accident I had at 16.

It's great to see you've not let a medical condition stop your life goals, and a hobby you enjoy can be a great way of balancing yourself when down. look forward to seeing your next project whichever it may be painting or sculpting

I appreciate your sharing that, Arch. It's always nice to see people supporting one another on their WIP threads, and common, too. I'm glad you feel, as I'm certain many do, that the community element of the hobby we share contributes substantially to our enjoyment of benefit from it. Keep pursuing your creative impulses!

Shelagh, Thank you for sharing what you deal with on a daily basis, with us.

A lot of us suffer with "Invisible" illnesses, I'm one.
Eighteen months ago I was at the lowest point of Depression and if it hadn't been for a promise to paint a piece for some one else (*)
I wouldn't be here.
So we (I) are always here to support you.

( Crystella33 and the "Ambush" piece.)
[And if you want to talk sometime drop me a PM to arrange to SKYPE.]

@SaintToad - It's not something I normally talk about randomly on forums, but you guys have become friends so I figured it was time to share. :) Plus you've all had a chance to "get to know me" without this clouding any opinions or reactions (which I wouldn't want). I'm just ArchArad who happens to have bipolar. Thanks for the kind words.

@KruleBear - What makes you think I'm not corrupting you? Thanks for the support my friend.

@WGS - Hehe. I'll take it. :)

@Dragonsreach - *hugs* The offer works both ways my friend. I figure if I've learned anything through all of this that can help others I'm happy to do so.

Ah well, we are all messed up in one way or another :) The ones you really gotta watch for are the ones whom claim they are "completely normal" o_O Creepy as hell. Or as my wife put it to her friends once: I'm with him because the rocks in my head fit the holes in his :p

You do what makes you happy and we'll be along for the ride... sculpt, paint, watercolor, draw in the dirt with a stick! We'll be there :)

We have yet more in common shells..I've been on my type 2 Medes since I'm 16 and through the years and constant adjustment and painting I've come through.actually my physicality helped me deal as a very talented pugilist and bodybuilder but after 28 years it came to a holt when 2 surgeries on my dominant arm destroyed its use and function..after several attempt of downing brake fluid..I turned to painting again.met my girl and couldn't be happier...so your not alone..just know that shells.;)

Unexpected Hobby Score

So I got an email from one of my local hobby stores today telling me that someone was selling off all his miniatures for good prices. Obviously I had to go and take a look...

Here's my score:

And all of this for the the equivalent cost of a new medium-sized kit from GW. I am a happy ArchArad. :D These older kits are great quality casts and some fun little single figures too.

The painting bug may have bitten me again...
