You've done a nice job with the wing membranes. They almost appear translucent like a bat's wing.

Thanks SaintToad, that is what I was going for. I think the color transitions could be a bit smoother (less of the straight lines showing up between colors), but that will come with time and practice :)

The highlights are really working for me and now that the dragon is coming together, I look forward to seeing the base painted so that this awesome looking mini gets some nice framing too. I'm looking forward to seeing your progress as you move into the latter stages of this ambitious project!

The dragon looks really cool. Must admit that's one hell of an ambitious colour scheme!

Thank you Ahnoll. I blame my girlfriend for the colour scheme. This is a gift to her and I made the mistake of letting her pic the scheme and of course instead of choosing one colour she chose all of them. :p

Well with another exceedingly busy weekend I only had about an hour to paint, so I did the eyes, and started work on the teeth and inside of the mouth. I still need to apply some light washes to the fleshy surface in the mouth, and on the teeth so they aren't quite so bright. I also did some more work on the horns, spikes, and claws across the body. I'm getting close to finishing up the dragon, and then it will be time to move on to the base (which I have no real experience doing, so it should be interesting.)

I finished the dragon, but there really wasnt much of a difference from the last photo, just some minor things, so I am going to wait until I get some work done on the base before I post an update photo.
SO tonight I also started working on the D & D Earth Myrmidon. I posted a pic of the box back at the beginning of this WIP. I'am going to eventually do the whole set together.

The plan for the body is to do a lighter grey stone color on the stone body (I have started base coating the area in the pic). The spikes coming off the elbows and knees I'm going to attempt to do blue crystals. In the major crevices of the body I want to do try a subtle blue OSL.
Examples:

For the armor I'm trying to do NMM gold (still building up the colors) like I did on the dragon. I havent completely decided on the other colors. I'm leaning towards attempting a NMM Red Steel, NMM Black Steel, or some combination of both.

The textures look really nice and fun to paint! I like the vision you have for the mini as well. I'm looking forward to seeing you work on this golem and the finished dragon too :)

Thanks everyone! I'll post more pics of the dragon as the base goes, but probably a little slower then I was before.
Here is an update of "Rocky" as I have chosen to call him:

I have added a few more coats of Vallejo Game Air Gold Yellow to the armor, and placed Army Painter Uniform Grey where the highlights are on the body. This time before starting on this model I took reference photos on my phone with a light directly above the model from the front, back, left and right side so I could get a since of how the light should play across the model. I'm actually following this tutorial: http://www.tinyworlds.co.uk/blog/painting-rocks-step-by-step/ for the stone body, of course with my own little tweeks ;) So the next step is adding a bit of purple black (maybe a bit of brown) into the darker parts of the armor to build up some contrast with the gold, and apply a variety of washes to the stone body to bring in some colors before I begin dry brushing.

So I sealed the dragon in a matte varnish, in preparation for covering is so I can use my airbrush to base coat the base.
And a few update photos of Rocky:

I decided to do a combination of Red and Black on the rest of the armor, so I started base coating the red areas with Army painter Chaotic red. I also dabbed a wide range of washes across the stone body, I tried to keep the green tones where the vines on the body are. I then washes all the stone in a thinned black wash.

He is coming along very nice... I like the look of the rock. A little more contrast on the yellow armour and you will have a nice NMM gold (do not know if that was your plans though)

That is my intention. I had a bit of contrast going but I decided I wanted to do a few coats of golden yellow glaze to smooth some areas out. I'll go back and build up the black/purple contrast and add some white once I get it where I want. Of course this is only my second time trying gold NMM so while I strive for perfection I dont expect to reach it.:)

@ BAMS: Thanks, your comments always help motivate me!

New rock dude is coming along really nicely Guawol.

Excited to see how you tackle the OSL on those lovely glowing magical joints.

Rocky is looking great so far, Guawol! You could really go nuts with some tonal variations and contrast with the craggy surfaces so don't hold back.

Let's see that dragon already!! Lol

@ Hairster: Thank you! Truth be told I'm not sure how I'm going to tackle the OSL yet, I have the image of what I want in my mind, now just have to figured out how to make it happen with all the techniques I'm learning from everyone. ;P

@ Octavian: Your right about the tonal variations and contrast, I look at the rocks on the body as having finally reached the base color I want, so now its time to start layer the details into it to make it pop. As for the dragon I plan on getting some work done on it tonight after work, been so busy with life that its hard to find more then an hour here or there to work, and I want a decent chunk of time (especially since this is my first time doing such a large base) so I can really focus on how I want the base to look, make it happen, and push through the final stretch to get it done.

For the OSL, maybe take a look at, if you haven't already, Sorastro's video of painting the Rune Golem from Runewars. He does some OSL for the runes and such that might prove helpful to you.

Someone pointed me in the direction of Sorastro's video (believe it might have been you) earlier in my thread, I have been using it for Rocky, for help with color reference and technique, its actually where I got some of my ideas for Rocky in the first place ;) I used the priming technique he used and the original base coat of the body was doing using a similar color mix as his. I then broke away and wanted to try out the rock tutorial I posted above. So a lot of mixing and matching. I'll definitely go back and rewatch the OSL part of the video for some more ideas!

Ok first off and update on the dragon:
View attachment 58183View attachment 58184
A side by side comparison just because. I'm new to basing so this is going to be a learning experience. The parts colored Ash Grey I will attempt to do a stone look, the muddy looking parts around the dragon I'm toying with the idea of making it look like melted semi solid stone. The pillar pieces and face I'm going to attempt a weathered/scorched marble.

For Rocky:

I dried brush the body in lighted areas with the Ash Grey base color. Worked on the contrast in my attempt at NMM gold, and just did one wash on the next shade of red as I try to build it up to a NMM red. I think this whole serious of models is really going to give me a lot of practice at my NMM technique.
And as a reminder of what the other models in this series looks like:
