SWEET! I laugh every time I look at the skeletons. Their expressions are dead on... I think my favorite is the one on his knees without a weapon. He looks like he is saying "F%@! not this $h[t again!, I knew I should of gone straight to the Yuh-Gi-Oh table!!! "

Do I see some green in the bronze of the skeletons weapons? Might be neat to add a few glinty green reflections.

Cheers all :)

Been working hard on the banner, followed a classic 'Green Man' design. Used pastels on the background then technical drawing pens for the design followed by the paint brush for the really thin lines / dots. Im pleased with the result.

Put alot of time on trying to get the 'swirl' banner to work also, loved the idea from BOK, liked it last night not sure this morning - thoughts people? - maybe to much with the big swoosh??

Still WIP.

Not too sure about the trailing banner, I'm kinda leaning towards a trailing vine of leaves rather than silk.
That way it'd continue the thematic link from the standard.

Well it's no secret how I feel about the streamers. In fact, it came out 1000x cooler than I pictured it in my head. I feel strongly that to get rid of it would be a mistake. Of course, I'm probably biased and the opinion of others may be more worthwhile.

And BTW, the banner itself has to be one of the coolest I've ever seen. My excitement for this project just went raging hard on. I say this with straight face.

The square banner looks awesome mate, the trailing banner I think DR's idea has merit as will give the framing BFoK suggested without looking too impractical and heavy

The banner is awesome for sure, the streamer is very coopl as well, but indeed it seems just a bit too heavy. I think it just starts out way too wide, giving to much weight to the top of the image.

I think if it would start with 2/3 or 1/2 of the width, it would be much better. And personally I'd make it even longer so it curls up to the rust sword sticking out of the ground.

hmmmm, there's and old saying in the miniature painting world - 'Murder my darlings'. I think that the streamer (or any swirling attachment) is one step to far, sorry BOK but think I will have to drop the idea.

This pains me immensely, Ten. :)

Theres another thing I've noticed in the mini world. At least the online WIP portion of it. When a respected artist expresses pleasure with a particular part of their WIP, they are often met with consensus. The same artist expresses doubt about the same piece, and everyone agrees that it was a mistake.

However, I respect your going with your gut ( and numerous other artists with loads more experience than me). I'm sure you will likewise blow us all away with your next move. :)

I'm just going to chime in quickly as I'm at work. I agree with BFK that the streamers really help to frame the mini beautifully but it's currently to big and heavy. Like Meph has said, if you where to make it about 2/3 the size and then add that lovely looking flock winding around it...... well that would look pretty peachy. And it really is a beautiful banner!

Lots to think about!!

This is a example of 'Murder my darlings' that Sproket perfectly demonstrated a few years back on his tomb king.
These two additions (which I thought at the time were a great idea) were dropped at the later stages and on revision this was the correct course. I would of used them but it would of weakened the whole vignette but as Sproket is the king of sting at this painting malarkey he knew the way to go and made his usual masterpiece.

This is looking fantastic! I love everything about it - with the exception of the streamer! I actually quite like the idea of the dramatic swoosh of the streamer behind the action but the current streamer is, for my taste, just too big. I hope you don't mind but I've taken the gross liberty of quickly scaling it down in good ol' photoshop. Just to see how it might look with a smaller streamer.

That's perfect! The smaller streamer not only frames the mini but it helps draw the eye around from that lovely banner into the rest of the gorgeous detail
