This is amazing! Perfectly executed...
I am struggling right now... I have quite ok painting technique, but I sense that I lack majorly of color theory skills to reach a better level! I have the impression that many good painters are stuck at this stage for a while!
But it seems that you passed it, long time ago and this last piece just confirmed it! simply excellent...
One question, did you have any eye opener? any "click" situation? Any special training or exercise to improve the color schemes of a model or a scene?
I am interested to have your point of view on how did you progress this part of your miniature painting skills...

I like it mate both the free hand green man motif banner and the streaming banner; however I think the streaming banner ,nice as it is, is just too big for the mini and kind of dwarfs the subject. The focus should be on the knight not the banner. My advice would be to save the streaming banner because its excellent work but attach it to a different mini in the future.

Your main banner work looks great and I really like the extra touch with the ivy.
As for 'fixing' the swirl banner... what about having it zig off to the right (figure's left) first? It's hard to tell from the angle of the photo, but the way the knight is oriented that might make the banner start off going more downward that vertical. Then, have it cut back and wrap around the outside of the base (low to the ground) with the tip ending up almost in front of the horse. That way it helps frame the scene but without passing in front of the knight. At least that's how I envisioned it based on BFK's post

Just waiting for the big streamer to flow in a semi circle around the scene, enveloping them all and framing the composition

WOWOWOWOWOW!!! The Green Man is so good. So much better than the Straken banner!
I also love the ivy and I think you are really really good at doing the plants. The big banner is unique and big. I say keep working with it and add ivy to the whole thing. Add a tree to support it if you have to. Doesn't have to be a ton of ivy but just enough to add some continuity. Look at GW's latest model, Nagash. He's got streamers and ghosts and spine claws coming out all over, plus a hat that's probably damn near as tall as your whole diorama. Maybe what GDUK needs is a big-ass green streamer?
One thing is certain, If you leave it, that ribbon is going to get some serious attention! Can you add ripples to it to make it look more to scale?

Demi, those are sort of my thoughts with the whole thing. One thing I know from reading multiple books on the Knights-Errant of Brettonian, is that no campaign streamer or banner is too gaudy, ornate, or impractical. The better to rally forth the peasantry when they bear witness to the mythical figure of the Green Knight weaving through the enemy ranks with the same ease that his streamer dances provacatively through the mid-morning breeze.
Ten, the Fluer-de-Lis symbol is also in keeping with Brettonian heraldry. Also, Ten, if you go with a downsized streamer and use ivy on it too as some suggest, I'd go with a different kind. There are several manufacturers, including the Warhammmer basing kits, that sell a brass etched ivy that is simply a single vine that you could wrap around it. Just a thought for additional visual interest. Someone once told me small medium and large need be represented.

Yep used graphic illustrator pens and oo w&n brush.
The standard is on 150gsm silk paper.
The streamer is out of 120mic plastic.
Used chalk pastels for the green background then added the design, when back and added more flowers etc with VMC pastel green & green inks. The leaves are shop brought added in strips.

Funnily enough I had a dream last night that you, Andy, I and a couple of others got an award at Euro.
Broomrider's talents must be rubbing off on me.
Everybody should paint the Green Knight once in life, at least!!!
Yours is fuc... awesome. I love it!! Composition is great and the contrast between the green of the knight and the the red of the skeletors and the ground works fantastic.
Hope it will be finished soon.
By the way, how do you paint so quick???
