I thought it was just us blue coloured dwarfs up in the wilds of Haggis Land that called it Tea :)

Your name was mentioned a few times when I was speaking to 10Ball and Skellet at GD, mainly in that 'He isn't here'

So Yet to meet you in the paint splashed flesh.

Off to a great start as usual. I'm curious to see what you decide to do with her armor.

Rose Model Art, it's definitely bigger than GW and Infinity stuff. This is from Andrea's Dark Nova line. They're all 1/32 scale, but the sizes are a bit exaggerated (space marine proportions). So while 1/32 would equate to 54mm for a normal human, their website says 65mm for this one.

This is why I get upset 2) reasons. Not to take it away from anybody but those who won their respected trophies congrats. But then I look up above and see another of ten balls newest works. It's outstanding yet again. Even though it finished you know by how the face is dine it's going to be award winning calibre.so not to rip open old wounds to me 10 ball (not only a really great guy and family man. But very accomplished .PROB along with andy and bfok the top guys who were once great to begin with have made significant improvements due to the ever growing w I p threads. So again It's criminal that not only all his GD did not win, but more criminal that my favorite the lost squad didn't even .make the cut. I can only speculate why but GD is at first and foremost a painting comp. And they were the best painted in my eyes as well as many others. It really aggregates me. An artist like this is part of a special greed. 2 types if you will guys like me who have shown not enough credibility or skill to win more than a handful of awards and guys like him , skell andy g etc who should be those who Winn a ton of stattuettes every time they attend. But to my surprise again only a 3rd place. I know he was happy/but upset I know it as I felt that way many times. But like skelette said it's not really a top 3 it's 20-30 models at the same top level that the judges needed to make a decision on in a very very short time. Something needs to change weather it be honest judging or eliminating those who win a gold at least from winning or entering again. I'm not saying this is the way but I fear like I did for 4 years people will stop attending due to "the same OL song and dance...or it will eventually run the risk of losing that portion of people who work just as hard like ten ball. Another thing I've never mentioned he I feel I should Mr rob dewes also added getting your name known -this means for example the usa was at one point dominated by 1) bobby Wong and 2) victor hardy who both won the slayer swor the years before. So he exclaimed even before the minis were judged he pulled the carDs of these two competitors before the judging and beca use they were previous winners their models were taken and moved to the finalist cabinet before all others were judged on the merit of their winners they're the ones who had the greatest chance of repeating so finalist them immediately. This is what Mr dewes exclaimed what it means to have the panel know your name.Iow once you Winn in that year a good number of trophies or the sword, you'll automatically be moved to the finals without being looked at and on the merit of "you probably going to do it again"clause.fair maybe /maybe not but it just didn't seem right and hence is Mr dewes reasoning for the repeated names always winning. This was his explanation .does it mean that the repeated winners don't have that consistent quality...hells no..these guys are superhuman when it comes to painting I'm merely saying on painting prowess alone 10 ball should be in this category.

I think part of the problem with Golden Demon as a competition is that it's tied to a company that is trying to sell their models. They want to show off their new releases, so if you're painting older figures it's going to hurt your chances with the judges. And, if you deviate too far from the Games Workshop look/style that will hurt your chances as well. I think that 10 ball's Nurgle squad had a very retro feel (which I think is totally awesome) and perhaps Straken's squad has a bit of that too. If your goal is to win a Golden Demon, then it helps to play the system. Is it fair? No. But Games Workshop is trying to make money and if they can use Golden Demon to help advertise their newer figures then that's what they're going to do. I'm not saying that only new figures win, there are of course counter examples. But I think the figures you pick will have you going into the judging with either an advantage or a disadvantage.

There's a prestige to winning a Golden Demon, but I think shows that aren't tied to companies like Euro Militaire, World Expo, and the myriad of other shows around Europe and the US are better from the standpoint of the best painted figures get the best ratings. You may still have judging biases (nobody is perfect), but at least there's no incentive to judge with a bias.

Cheers all :)

@RMA - Baileys spot on, the scale is 54mm but she's over that.

@ Blood - Yep its a mystery to me about the jungle squad. Its just one of those things I suppose. Its didnt make the finals and salute nor GD. I didnt even bother to take it to the Euro.

Skele & I were talking about it at GD, we think the base overpowers the minis and at first glance makes them look scrappy. I got a feeling if they were on a plain base they might of done a little better? I was starting to question my painting :( I expressed my views to Andy, Sproket and a few others about this and that maybe my photos were somehow burning out the painting making them look 'cleaner' / sharper on screen than in irl.

Andy knows how frustrated I was getting and in some ways GD was a real test for me to see if my painting was on par with some of the feedback I was getting on line. All the minis I entered (with the exception of the dreaded jungle squad) hadnt been entered in any other comps so it was a fresh start. Sooooooo with 3 finalists and a bronze demon it has really gave me the boost I was needing.

But it still begs the question, how can the same painter in the same year paint two minis one thats crashes n burns and one the wins but they are painted to the same abilitiy?

A question Sproket has asked himself after Euro, with one mini getting a bronze (which at the Euro is a real hard achivement) and the other not even a commendation????? Its must go down to personal preferences thats all I can think of.

All I know is that blasted squad has been put in a dark box :pissed-off:

That is such a shame to hide that beautiful squad away mate, I put it down to art is subjective what one person loves another hates but never let it diminish the enjoyment you got out of doing it and the adolation you got from your peers !

They should do what what baseball now does. EVERYONE gets a trophy. There are no losers in baseball...even if you lose :p

Ya know its a blasted shame but I gotta tell you out of all your amazing capabilities in putting together models for competition I WILL ADMIT I've never been jealous or envious of anybody's abilities as I feel my own are comparable to most. But there has been 3 times my envy has gotten the best of me and they are as follows 1)the. Nurgle special forces deserved the sword.2) the jungle squad and 3)BFOK and his last model which I feel is his best. These are the only 3 things that have moved me to the words in my head as follows:"man I wish I could paint and model that!"

This is the truth and has always become a stay point in my miniTure classes where I teach what I know about the craft. These 3 pieces are of the most remarkable painting and modelling skill I've seen in my 15 plus years of attending golden demon. These are not only my favorites from you BUT MY FAVORITE ALL TIME PAINTED SQUADS AND MODELS. It pains me that they will never have the commendation nor awards THAT THEY RIGHTFULLY DESERVE... AND I KNOW YOU FEEL THE SAME WAY ABOUT THESE TEONPIECES FROM YOU.. So I WILL HIVE THE ONLY HEARTFELT THING THAT ACTUALLY MATTERS IN THE END AND THAT'S:THANK YOU GOR THE DISPLAY, motivation and PURE BEAUTY OF THESE PIECES FROM MY PIT OF MY BEING. THEY ARE AMAZING WORKS Period!!
Thank you for sharing.
