What do you think of the new one, \"Volcano\", by Satyricon? I have just gotten it and it seems to be different than what I expected, but I do really like \"Fuel For Hatred\".

Aha, another black metal fanatic :D

Technically speaking, I think Volcano is the best Satyricon album so far. But when it comes down to atmosphere, I choose \"Nemesis Divina\". Mother North is my all-time favorite Satyricon track.

Oh yeah, although I am into stuff from most sub-genres of metal, black metal is my favorite. I have to agree that \"Mother North\" is my favorite Satyricon track as well. Before your post popped up I was listening to some old Marduk (\"Glorification of the Black God\" - one of my favorite black metal songs) and before that a group called Funeral Fog (I am sure you can guess what they sound like :D).

I got into black metal years ago when Venom first hit the scene with Welcome to Hell (shows his age by saying I still have all of the first foyr Venom albums on various coloured vinyls). The album Black metal just blew me away whilst I can still remember the fuss that At War With Satan caused (shops refusing to stock or display it. How times have changed).
Anyway I still listen to it every now and again if I am in the right mood i.e. angry.
I listen to Slayer, Cradle of Filth, Emperor an the likes.

Hey, same for me! So you aren\'t the only old guy around here! I used to play \"Poison\" over and over, it was the fastest song I had ever heard. I remember At War With Satan being pulled from the shelf at our local store, and then I had to special order it, so I wound up getting the picture disc (wish I still had it, sure it\'s worth some money now). Did you know that Cronos is putting out a new Venom album, and Mantas has left and is forming his own band to put out an album. Their recent stuff can\'t compare to the classics, but its still decent.

You mentioned COF - they have a new one coming out, and they have an MP3 of one of the songs (the title of which I can\'t type here lol) on their website. Sounds like a return to the old days of \"The Principle of Evil Made Flesh\".

I had heard about the new Venom album but didn\'t know about the departure of Mantas. Abaddon had already left when they released Resurrection but that is still a good listen. You are right though somehow they just can\'t recapture that early eighties agression they had. Not sure about poison never really got into them, Motley Crue were my favourite sleaze band. :]

My first metal album was the black album by metallica. Other albums followed soon after: Sepultura, Pantera, etc. As the years went by, I started listening to other genres of metal, death metal at first (Carcass, Morbid Angel), then some Gothic (Within Temptation, Theatre of Tragedy). My first black metal album was Dusk and her embrace by Cradle Of Filth.

I have a large cd collection with several different types of metal, but the main focus is on black metal: Immortal, Satyricon, Marduk, Cradle of Filth, Dark Funeral, Opera IX, Cadaveria, ...

NOOOOO!!!! Not the band, the song \"Poison\" on Welcome to Hell. There can\'t be a band I hate more than Poison!:|~
There was a really good German thrash band called Poison, but still.......

Nice to see you have progressed to the good stuff Corvus! My collection has slowed down in its growth lately, but if you count all the cds, demos, and live bootlegs I have, my collection is about 1500 strong I think (I lost my list in a move, so one of these days I will have to sit down and start over on one).

The Black album arguably Metalliaca\'s finest hour. It is a good album and I think they slipped into lesser achievements after until Saint Anger that is. I am like you I too have a very large music collection with all types of metal although my favourite is what is now sldly classed as classic rock. My favourite band is Judas Priest I have followed them for a very long time and can\'t wait to see them again now that they reformed the original line up (well nearly the original).

I guess i\'ve got a wide taste of music. Whenever my friends see my cd collection they go: aha, aha....??? Why is Andrea Bocelli in there as well?! :D

I also now and then like to listen to Wu-Tang (36 chambers), Cypress Hill, Fugees, Nirvana and the Red Hot Chilli peppers!

And my alltime favourite is still Queen! :)

I\'ve got a mini hi-fi in my room that plays mp3 disks(Mp3 files on a cd) so I can fit some 8-10 albums on one disk, So i\'ve got a number of albums to listen to. Favourites are.. Metallica, Pantera, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Sparta, At the drive in, The mars volta, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Guns and Roses and more. Oldie rock, metal and easygoing rock are my favourite genres.

tidoco2222: Wouldn\'t really say Black Album is Metallica\'s best, they really started be kind of sellout and the music became boring IMO, anything after Black Album ain\'t half as good as the stuff before. Still love them though :)

I\'d say anything with Cliff Burton in it is much better than the black album (not because Newsted is bad or anything, just because that\'s when they wrote the best music). I also think st. anger is an aweful album, especially coming off of a six year break without an original album. And now they have spongebob-metallica t shirts, too

For older non-synth metal, I like Metallica, Megadeth, etc.

Iron Maiden is my favorite! I also like Dio, and Bruce Dickinson\'s solo stuff.

I really like listening to Blind Guardian, Sonata Arctica, Borknagar, Children of Bodom (or Sinergy!), Nightwish, Stratovarius, Gamma Ray, and Yngwie J. Malmsteen when I paint...

While Metalliac is good, for painting I prefer...

The soundtrack from Conan the Barbarian and Conan the destroyer. Also I am found of Braveheart soundtrack (go figure) as well as the LOTR soundtracks. Clannad and Enya are also some favorites to paint to.

Don\'t get me wrong, Metallica, Good Charlotte, Blink 182, Korn, etc are great to listen to but when painting, they are much better choices for the daily rush hour drive, helps to compliment my road rage !!!!!

40k Techno Electronica series...

This series of tracks by some great electronic artists was inspired by 40K. I think the artists worked to some sort of concept with this series...
It fits the bill perfectly (not all of it is great though) for gaming and painting I suppose, very \'sound-scapey\'...

I did say that the Black Album was arguably their best, if you listen to some of their interviews they certainly think so. My favourite album of theirs was Ride the Lightning aka Cliff Burton.
Sonarta Artica, Angel Dust, Iced Earth, and a really cracking pair of albums is by an outfit called Avantasia the Metal Opera parts1 and 2. ;)
