I didn't notice 'til you pointed it out, but I think one of the issues is it's too vibrant. I tried darkening the red and worked a bit on the skin around it, hopefully it looks better. Other additions; the teeth on the stomach, verdigris on the brassy parts, the sword. Main body is close to done, I'm currently building a base and of course it will have water again. lol

Looks really good - a major step up to your previous works. I've been trying to put my finger on the difference, and I think it is that this one has been a really clean paint throughout. Looking at your octopus piece that one started messy and got progressively neater.
Base looks awesome so far. Got ta love a bit of resin!

Thanks for the comments guys, bgc, I agree the octopus was kind of a mess at the start but finishing through helped me learn a lot. Now finishing this guy, I learned even more.
Sadly, there's been a bit of a disaster with the base. The piece of plastic used to hold in the resin was extremely fickle and when I began pulling it away, it decided to peel off in layers instead of one solid piece. So I have a few spots where the plastic came off just fine and you see clear resin, but then everything else is covered with a thin piece of cloudy, ugly plastic that I couldn't get rid of after 2 hours of trying. What I've done so far is paint those nasty plastic pieces black and kept little windows into the resin. Maybe people will think I took an "artistic" approach. Should I leave it like this or cut my loses and just paint it all black?

no way to sand it out eh? scrap it and try again. Use tape next time. check our meg maples blog for tips on her work with clear resin. We all have our psychological scars from dabbling in clear resin

I don't have the drive right now to make another base. As I'm not bringing this to any comp I'm just going to leave him on this one, I'll just crop that part out of the photos. For my next mini I'll use the advice you gave Bailey about building a few different bases during the painting process, I'll be more mindful and careful in the future.

With the AWL pretty much done, I thought rather than start a new project I would finish one that I started and abandoned about a year ago. This guy, the Sanguinary Priest:

On the water base, i would say paint completely black or completely remove the black. I thought someone on the forums had a similar problem and used a dremel to clean the surface, a polishing wheel to smooth it out, and progressively smoother sandpaper to get the shine back.

The photo album of AWL is pretty cool, the pictures seem nice and clear, it's a shame about his base, it was looking really cool but awesome paint job on him anyway better luck next time you play with resin

When deciding how I wanted to paint him I searched google for vestment robes and a lot of the results were purple so I went with that. I know Blood Angels are all red all the time, but I like the character models to stand out from the crowd.

Yeah it's not my favorite model either, but I got it for free so I won't complain. Ha, it does look similar, I was just trying to make a nice, simple, repeating pattern.
