Thanks all.

Maenas/Foxtail: it's definitely a lighting thing, the yellow is more pale in person. Plus the blue eagle will cover most of it, then the weathering will help tone it down. But I'll have to keep taking photos and tweeking it because pics are half the score at CB.

anotherpainter: painting/shading white is very difficult. I went with a warm white on the tabard so I used browns and yellows to shade, but you can also go cool with shades of grey and blue. Check out Bailey03's WIP thread, he has an excellent mounted knight model and went into detail about how he painted the white.

I'm working on the shield now and will post pictures when I'm finished.

Thank you everyone. Well the bust is pretty much done now. I just need to assemble it and then do some minor adjustments based on how the pieces fit together. Here's a progression of the main body:

I really like the leather, and also all those "extra" textures you have added to the textiles. The only thing I feel a bit strange is that hole in the robe that seems to be produced by a wound. Shouldn't it be dampened with blood? at least on the inner edges... But maybe you already have that planned. ^^'

I'm glad you mentioned that because I've been debating putting blood there. The box art and all the other pictures I can find of the bust have the blood stain but kept that little flap pure white. In my mind it should have blood on it, but everyone else who painted it felt different so I was unsure what to do. I think I'll add some.

Agreed ^^ I would leave at least the trim and a bit more completely white.

Alright, here are the "final" pics. I still need to tweak a few things on the face, deepen some shadows, lessen some highlights, work on the beard. You know how sometimes people with white beards have the weird reddish brown hair near the root/skin? I tried to do that and it didn't work out too well.

Excellent fluisterwoud! Specially for the face I like it lots!
I see what you comment on the beard, maybe it does not work because the colour (from here) looks similar to the skin so at FIRST GLANCE may seem a bit of skin colour leakage, but if you look twice it seems what you intended. Do not know how you could improve the final result though.... Maybe reintroducing some thin grey lines to refine the beard hairs in that area? IDK

Wound:
You did it perfect. It can not be clean with blood coming out left and right of it. It would at least soak some of the blood and thats exactly how it looks like on the pictures.



Is there an specific reason why you painted the darks first and then added the lights on the cross but did it other way round on the leather?

Leather straps is something that i encounter on near every mini, and i did try it in several ways.
I love yours. They are different then most that i saw but look very authentic.
How white is the highest highlight on them?

Thanks for the comments and suggestions everyone, it really helped me make this the best mini I've painted to date.

anotherpainter: very good question. I did it that way for a couple of reasons; 1) when the head is attached, the scarf covers most of the belt so I wanted to focus on the parts that you can see 2) the way it's sculpted the belt is angled outward at the bottom and inward at the top so I thought the best way was the highlight then shade upwards. The last highlight I used for the belt was Dirty Bone from Reaper Master Series.
As for the cross, I shaded first then highlighted because I was trying for a sun-bleached effect, I wanted to get that pinkish look to it which is usually what you're trying to avoid happening when painting red.
