Maenas/Foxtail: it's definitely a lighting thing, the yellow is more pale in person. Plus the blue eagle will cover most of it, then the weathering will help tone it down. But I'll have to keep taking photos and tweeking it because pics are half the score at CB.
anotherpainter: painting/shading white is very difficult. I went with a warm white on the tabard so I used browns and yellows to shade, but you can also go cool with shades of grey and blue. Check out Bailey03's WIP thread, he has an excellent mounted knight model and went into detail about how he painted the white.
I'm working on the shield now and will post pictures when I'm finished.
