A word from Victor Hardy

But despite all that has been said ...

Wouldn\'t we all be just a tad bit sad if GW went under and shut it\'s doors forever tomorrow?

They set the bar that all other companies are now topping with better rules and models, they probably got more people into this hobby then all other venues combined, and who would we all bitch about when they were gone?

Chew on that for awhile.

Hehehe....Now that, has really put a smile on my face:D

\"...why the torrent of abuse?\" Because some of us have been with GW since the very beginning and have watched this company (which we all loved initially) get taken over by \'suits\' and evolve into a depressing mockery of what it once was. Most of the \'real\' GW people are long gone and the sooner the bunch of vampire accountants who now seem to be in charge are put on the dole the better as far as I am concerned.:D

First I\'d like to say that I agree that Victor handled himself in a very high fashion and I respect him greatly for that and for his amazing artwork. However I think that he is making a mistake by changing his miniature. I mean is it really all about winning the contest? If it is art it shouldn\'t be changed to appease GW or anyone else. Victor, you don\'t have to paint for other poeple\'s money and you don\'t have to paint for fame or other\'s respect either those things come, really have come already, by the virture of your art itself. So paint for yourself and for the joy and satifaction that comes with it.

Funny thing is, nobody\'s complaining about rackham or warmachine. But truth is they are exactly the same thing as GW in a smaller proportion.

Oh and does the 400 on the graphe mean 400 a share ? Because if that\'s it they are still doing pretty good.
And to answer spacemunki, the fact that they have stores almost everywere I go, and that those stores are usually full of sutomers is enougth to make me say they are doing good :p

I just want to see the fucking figure and see what all the bloody hoo har was about! Or maybe this guy is just being so secretive to get the attention? Maybe after a year of brooding over it people had forgotten all about the damn model and he decided he needed another ego massage?

Could be wrong though :innocent:

Like I said before. Why try to do something for their customers if peopel keep making excuses for their price gouging.

I\'ll say it again;
If they really cared about their customers, maybe they would make their product cheaper. Why come out with a new boxset that is even more expensive than the last. They already know that the customers are complaining about paying too much for the hobby. They are such marketing geniuses, think of a way to do that.

agreed!
After reading both of his quoted posts, I think he can massage himself quite nicely.

Victor is scary talented, to be sure, and I\'m sure he\'s a nice guy and all, but damn...

for all of the GW bashing and poo-pooing in here, a few of us sure do take their painting contest seriously.

It\'s a disappointment for Victor, to have put all that blood sweat and tears into this model and then have it disqualified. That just plain sucks, and I\'m sick about it. But maybe it\'s time to let go, rather than pulling internet pictures, re-doing GW-\'Hostile\' imagery, and getting friends to disturb the hornet nest with ivory-tower sound-offs on comparisons to Christianity and 40K?
Are y\'all sure Victor\'s a lawyer, and not in marketing ;)

I do believe in his point that some religions seem to be more of a form of control...but anyways...

I just want to see pics of his model :( :( :(

point made.
If he put 500+ hours into a mini just so he could get a prize, he\'s not in it for the right reasons. He should be proud of what he can do. He should hold his head up and say I put 500+ hours into producing something glorious and unique. Who cares if someone gives me a trophy.

Well, vincegamer, I have to disagree. Sure, you can look at it your way. But this is a guy who has won the sword twice in the U.S. Only person I know that has achieved that. So, the logical step would be to go for the sword in U.K. Yes, he is competitive, but you plan to enter a competition, especially at his level, you have to aim to win. Losing is one thing, but being disqualified is another.

I\'m sure I saw a pic of this mini shortly after it was disqualified. I seem to remember the iconography being unmistakably Catholic - and by that, I mean it wouldn\'t have looked out of place adorning the walls of the Vatican.

I think if you decide to put this amount of effort into something which is obviously going to be pushing the boundaries of GWs imaginary world then you probably ought to be prepared for those boundaries not to be moved and accept the decision - which I\'m sure VH did.

I agree with others here - it\'s a great example of miniature art regardless of whether it was suitable for a painting competition or not. I personally wouldn\'t change it just to appease the GW marketing machine.

Yes, it\'s entirely possible. It is not a given that when you get big you turn into a rapacious, money-hungry, bottom-line-is-king monstrosity :)

Compare Microsoft\'s or eBay\'s standard business practices with those of some other companies for some perspective along these lines.

From my own experience at modelling shows, including some big international ones, as well as from watching others at the same events and listening to the fallout afterwards, there\'s a lot to be said for this point.
