all they are doing is finding ways to make maximum profit.

they will keep raising prices untill it realy affects them. a drop in sales will not always hurt a company if after a price rise they are still making as much as before.

The reason these threads keep popping up is because GW keep putting their prices up and resolutely refuse to listen to their customers.

\"If you don\'t like the prices, don\'t buy.\" To which my response is \"If you don\'t like the threads, don\'t read.\" If you want to continue to patronise GW then do so, but please don\'t patronise those who do not.

People are stopping buying their product in droves - their price hike to turnover shows this over the last 6 years. They deserve a big fall and that\'s what they\'ll get I reckon.

Problem is, the price rises aren\'t happening to increase profits, they are happening to cover decreasing sales.

Turnover in 2001 was 92.5 million quid. Pre-tax profit was 11.2 million quid - 12%

In 2005 turnover had risen to 136.6 million, profits to 13.8 million. That is only 10.1%. That\'s a bit of a drop off in profit margin.

Now look at this year:

Turnover: 115.3 million
Pre-tax profit: 3.7 million
That equals 3.2% profit.

I\'d be pissed if I were a shareholder....

Sorry, but been around here for something like 4 years and for all that time the imminent, if not immediate, demise of GW has been predicted ad nauseum.

Prices go up on everything. Prices go up usually first & further on \"luxury\" items such as hobby & craft things. [shrug] I remember swearing to god that I\'d quit smoking when cigarettes went over a buck a pack. Now the TAX on them is like 3 times that. I\'m still smoking, though. [shrug:again]

I have been one of the main protagonists predicting the demise of GW, but I never said it was imminent....

Inevitable..maybe, imminent...no...there is a cycle to these things that tend to work in decades not years. They are dead in the water IMO, they just don\'t appreciate that yet.

Reading this one with interest.

They seem to do it because they think they can. basically they don\'t want any sales outside GW and lets be fair they market very well, including new projects and articles simply to promote new products.

Their non-figure stuff like brushes and basing materials is total c**p and a total rip off. You can get it anywhere cheaper.

But, they will try to squash anyone who gets in there way. Accesories is a good example. They will try and shut down anyone who has an idea or sells accesories for Warhammer. Claim IP infringement, bit dodgy - like to see someone with the money to take them on on that!

I certainly buy 95% of my figures off Ebay now. Imagine trying to get a new 200 point horde army from new - c. 200 figure about £3 each (Excluding specials) - damn expensive

Rant over now, madness fading, fading...rising!... fading...

The majority of minis I used to buy were new GW minis. I seriously can\'t remember the last time I bought one now. Actually, my girl bought me those limited edition Snorri and Gotrek minis for my birthday. Other than that it was a loooong time ago, probably years. There is far better stuff for far cheaper, and if I want a really sick mini for $10 I\'ll buy Rackham.

Simply put, if you don\'t like it, don\'t support them. Buy from eBay, or better yet, find a new game. I too grow weary of the evil GW posts. They aren\'t quite as bad as the sniping posts, though.

@at all those who say \"I buy from ebay\" as if this is proof that GW is being hurt financially by such actions. Where do you think those figures come from? GW still get their money from the original purchaser.

I would also like to point out how often the 40K and Warhammer forums get posts and replies compared to all the other gaming threads combined.

Its very similar to the complaints and rants you might hear about Microsoft. Their business tactics are just as dodgy, but in the end, they are going to get theirs...money that is.

GW has lots of good products. Forgeworld stuff is very cool, the Black Library has books I like to read. But, I still like to rag on them....

I have to admit that I really like GW. I tried to buy stuff on Ebay, but I hate waiting for the auction to end only to find out that the ending price+SH is the same as the store price (or more) and I don\'t have to wait when I purchase in the store. Dr. Monki is right in pointing out that Someone paid GW in order to sell on line. I don\'t see them going away anytime soon. And I\'m still not tired of these threads.

Yeah, but I like to think that any GW stuff I buy from ebay has been shoplifted or found on the back of a lorry so they get nuffink Actually, the reason I buy from ebay isn\'t to stop GW getting money, it\'s to stop them getting MY money!

i heard that miost the people that are just selling sprues jack them from the factories and i buy in the store..it may cosrt more but it keeps the hobby alive

I thought that alot of the people who sell just the sprues, (no box) were making molds from original GW plastics and casting copies, there seems to be an awful lot of them out there for them to have all been knocked off the factory.

Gw business practice and pricing pisses me off, but I do like alot of their stuff, and you\'ve got to give them their dues, they\'ve done more to promote mini painting, modelling and wargaming than all the other companies put together.
If anyone thinks that GW\'s sudden disappearence would lead to mini\'s in general suddenly becoming cheaper, then I\'ve got to disagree.
To me the most important thing is to shop around, and support the smaller companies like hassle free and heresy, so that they don\'t come to the same fate that seems to have befallen Ilyad.

It would be a shame if, as the figures posted by spacemunkie suggest, GW did shut up shop at some time in the future.

The reality with many business is that you occasionaly have slumps, sometimes they last a few years. Listed companies simply have to tell everyone when they do.
God look at Ford or GM they are losing billions of dollars and have done for a while. The latest out of GM is that they seem to be coming right.

The reality is that if GW have only a 3% profit on a 115 million turnover then dropping their prices is the last thing they should do. It hardly suggests that they are ripping people off does it.
