I like the metal trim, you will have to get a lot of either grime or contrast into those recesses to make it pop. The damage, well that size of bust will require some work. Basic principal is fill the chipped area with a darker color (whatever you picture is under the paint, primer a dark metal, a dark wood) then highlight the bottom edge of the chip to help enhance it's depth. Ten you can added dirt or streaks or whatever to give it age or keep it newer with a brighter color in the center of the scratch. There are plenty of "sponge chipping" tutorials out there that you could adapt to this. BAM and his orks are a great source of inspiration and i have done a fair few beat up space marines. Less is more with this scale though

And if you don't get it completely right, a wash and/or some pigments after can neaten it up and make it look more realistic.

Thanks zabos for the mutual respect given to me same ado feel for you zabby, yes we both have done a fair share of beat up thingies and honestly I wouldn't have a finished model any other way. Thanks bud arch watch what ZAB is saying once you see how 1) realistic weathering and battle damage can be and 2) how fairly st8 forward it is to accomplish you'll be doing it all the time.

Brief Update

I'm still here and still painting. Unfortunately not much to show off at the moment. I've finished off the basecoat on the trim on She Warrior's armour and helmet and have started neatening up a few areas that need attention.

Assignment due dates are coming thick and fast over the next few weeks. But I'll still be here, just probably not very regularly.

This semester hasn't been the best for me. So hopefully I'll survive. But I'm loving my course in general so it's mainly all good.

I'm doing a Bachelor's degree in English and Creative Writing. This is not my first time studying at university. But coming back to it after a 7-8 year break was interesting. Our academic year starts in January/February so I'm nearing the end of first year.

Just a questions:

Why have you chosen this color scheme? If you think first on the "story" of the miniature then you will have an easier way to choose your color scheme. I'm not telling you that actual one is incorrect, OK?

I like how it is going now but I think you have to risk a little bit more. Try to create more volume on the miniature. For example, get three kinds of metallic paints, brighter, darker and normal. Now you have to use them to represent how the light affect on the surface. Lighter color on the parts that are affected directly by the light and darker color on the parts that are not receiving any light.

Not quite sure if I have explained correctly. Anyway, You have thousand of tutorials, so use them to improve your painting skills.

And remember, enjoy the path, not just the final destination.

Hey aniku! Thanks for stopping by. The original box art for this bust had her all in steel and with blonde hair and it really didn't excite me. So when I sat down and thought about her and got a feel for her "character" I got the mental image of the colours you see in front of you - with some tweaking here and there based on excellent advice.

Thanks for the advice. She's still basically basecoated at the moment, so I am intending to bring in some highlights and shadows on the metals and the rest of her. It feels like I've been painting her for ages and she's still only basecoated! But I'm having fun and learning a lot, so I'm happy.

You explained just fine! I've only been on this crazy painting adventure for four months now and I am loving it! Plus I get to meet fabulously talented people like yourself. Thanks again for stopping by and taking the time to leave me your thoughts.

Withdrawal has set in

So I've had assignments due, but that meant I still might get an hour or so of painting done on some evenings. And then I got sick. :weep:

So no painting for me for nearly a week. I'm suffering from withdrawal I tell you!

Pffft. Weak excuses. Here's the work around. "write" Your assignment verbally and record what you have said with you phone or voice recorder. Then transcribe and edit it later. This will allow you to write and paint at the same time. As for the the sick, when you are up late at night because you are too congested to sleep you may as well paint...

Seriously though I hope you feel better soon and ace you assignments.
