Hey all, attempting green OSL on Necrons. Anyone recommend a how-to guide and color of paints I would need to buy?

Thanks.

Hmm, according to this, they used Orkhide Shade, Snot green, Scorpion Green, Sunburst Yellow, and a dab of Skull White. Granted these aren't the newest paint names, but it should get you close enough.

Don't get me wrong - it's a nice book. But there is so much free info on this site under the tutorials I wouldn't buy it unless you couldn't figure it out here first.

Problem is that I am trying to do Necron OSL and I haven't found an adequate guide. I'm sure I would get more out of that book than just OSL. Does it take you through step by step?

I'm not sure what makes Necron OSL different from any other glowy OSL, but yeah, the masterclass book has step by steps for lots of stuff, from OSL to NMM to flesh to metallics and so on. Just an FYI - the OSL step by step they do is a Skaven warpstone. That's where the colors I got came from. But it's the same palette one would presumably use for Necrons as well.

I picked up the Masterclass book too and the OSL bit is nice and helpful with colors. I just stumbled over an OSL effect using Reaper paints that I didn't expect! Reaper Leaf Green, Pine Green, Marigold Orange and Clear Green (how the clear paint worked to help out the effect surprised the heck out of me - didn't expect it at all). Anyway, I feel your pain on this one as not too long ago I was fighting with Necrons trying to get that OSL.

Another thing that helps is to search the gallery. You can find some really, really nice Necrons and can study the effect.

Kathryn, you still have the link where you found that? Sounds pretty cool. Do you have pictures of the finished product?

I actually stumbled over the process while painting a commission piece. I took photos and did a bit of documentation in my new thread.

But I do have an in progress piece I was playing around with OSL after reading the Masterclass feature. After discovering this, I planned to work on it a little more and document the results. I'll go do that and post the results because it shouldn't take me too long.
