Well you know I want one, :) I am proud of you bud, it came out pretty dam good for your first shot. I would definitly call this a win. Its really hard to know where to place air release holes when making the mold for me so I am still learning on that part too.

Thanks for sharing the process - if I'm ever mad enough to attempt sculpting and casting I have somewhere to look for a start.

Thanks guys - really appreciate your help and support. That's two Sprogrots making their way out into the world: any more takers?

in other news, life with the ridiculous Maulgy diorama/base rumbles on. While waiting for moods and resin to cure I kept my mind off the fear by adding to my barbarian. I've added more muscle to his body, a furry modesty bit, and worked up his right leg, arm and right hand. Also added some hair. He still needs a belt, some interest like a necklace or armour or something, and his left leg and left hand. Also need to properly do his face too.

Here he is so far - the 'sword' is a pin with the bobble end cut off (hopefully the missus won't mind), I obviously need to go over it with a decent sword design. Or I could do an axe, with the subtext to Maulgy being 'my chopper's bigger than yours', Ho Ho Ho...

I doubt it fella. I've still got tons to learn.

Right, I had a go at improving the face and hair. I wanted to remove stuff not add to it, so whittled the baked Fimo with my scalpel. Hopefully he's lost some of his cartoonish look now.

also done his left leg. The boot broke off when I dropped him (grr), but I can stick it back on; just have to wait until I've baked the rest before I do or the glue will fail.

still to do:

left arm and hand, clinging to the rock (no idea how to do this yet)
decoration/belt
sword
armour?

and then the next bit - and one I've been dreading... The tree.

I I started with a better wire model (garden wire from the local garden centre), twisted around in the middle to form a trunk and then branched off (Ho Ho) to form branches and roots at either end, then bent to fit the contours of the base.

then Fimo added for the texture:

and smushed about with a cocktail stick to give it some rough bark feel:

hmm. Might be too big. I'm trying to offer a counterbalance to Maulgy and the barbarian on the far right of the base, so figured I need something big on the left... But I'm not sure now.

and I have no idea how to do the foliage. Any ideas/tips?

I can't help but feel it's not going to go well.

Sigh: I miss painting. Feel like I haven't done any in ages. Ah well - Christmas party tonight; I can tackle it with hungover eyes tomorrow...

So much impressive stuff! I've amazed at how quickly you managed to get very good at sculpting! I'd ask for a copy of the orc, but I realize that I'll probably leave it in a box for years so I'll rather let someone who'd actually paint it have a shot. :)

SHUT IT YOU NEH SAYER! It is going very well. The sculpted dude is incredible and I say that in all honesty. A lot of people don't understand that sculpting monsters is the easy part, to actual sculpt a person at that scale 100 times more difficult. Then to get down to the hands as well as you have, EVEN MORE SO. So keep at it my friend I know you will. Its going very well and the painting is almost there.

I'd give the orc bust a go, if you've any spare,I dare say it wouldn't be as good as other people's efforts but I'd try lol and the gf can't complain too much of me getting more things to paint if its free lol

I'm inspired by your sculpting determination, I really want to learn too but its on a long list of things I want to learn

Your barbarian's coming along nicely - the angle of his neck used to worry me, but it works when he's in place on the base. The tree is a bit out of proportion at the moment imho - if you want it that tall then I'd suggest widening the trunk. A dead tree could work nicely, or a large jagged whole in the trunk.

Keep on having fun. If that means taking a break from the scene for a day then do it. Whatever lets your mad genius flourish. :)

Thanks for your kind words, folks. I think you are right Arch, I'm going to take the tree off and replace it. A rotten stumpy tree is a good idea, I'll have a look at that.

i'm forced to take a night off because our work do, which I suppose will be fun - but it's a bit annoying as I felt I was starting to get a good rhythm going. Ah well, change is as good as a rest.

Sicks, Oist, you're both welcome to one: just pm me your address.

wowzers... +1 to a dead tree (leaves problem of the leafs solved) xD also +1 to a thicker base trunk, trees and branches are thicker at its bases and a lot thinner at the points. I think the height is ok, but the thick of the upper parts is what gives the wrong impression.... Maybe you could just leave the wire at the thinnest points... or use different diameter cables...

A closed hand (fingers close to each other) grasping a rock should be a lot easier than triyng to do a spreaded fingers hand. (just supposing this, I've never done a hand!!)

Edited: I answered earlier, but did not push the publish button till now, and now I see you already answered previous posts lol....

Take care!

Right, dead tree it is!

I was thinking I could sculpt a little rock crevice or handhold and having grasping it in a closed fist... but I may try to do the open fingered hand and see how it goes. The hardest bit is going to be choosing his position; I'm not sure I will be able to get it right – and, once I have, I won't be able to glue him down otherwise I won't be able to paint the little bugger. It's a tricky one.

Do you have a bust left? Just starting out on them and your sculpt looks like fun to paint.

I am simply blown away by your work. There is for shure many things to improve, but you improve so damn quick. Unbelievable.

I am stealing this base idea for my dragon and sorceress, that is exactly what I had in mind but could not really put my finger on it. Thanks Dazz!!!!!!
