The strap - yeesh. It just wouldn't stick to the baked model. I'd press it down and it would lose its shape; try to reshape it and it would peel off. Nightmare.

Glad you like the drawing - and judging by your samurai, I guess my bossy freehand Orc worked!
Scared me but it worked to push me forward running in fear xD

May I suggest wood mushrooms? those that born in rotten/humid wood... http://www.coorgblog.orangecounty.in/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Copy-of-IMG_0196.jpg
If you want both trunks, maybe you can lay the new one on the floor (not necessary to be next the old one) and half cover it with snow... I do not know if those mushrooms could live in the cold ^^' Just giving ideas....

Anyway... Have a Merry Christmas!! ^^

Since the new log is hollow you could fit it over the old tree and make it the broken and rotting trunk of that root system.

Some really good suggestions, thanks for these. Wood mushrooms: they could be fun. I know it doesn't look it yet but I'm going to paint it as a warm, humid, swampy sort of setting, so mushrooms and wood mushrooms make a lot of sense.

@Arch: I kinda already threw the other tree away... :doh!:

I'm impulsive like that.

If you havn't started painting Pig yet I would suggest smoothing out his cheek bones if possible, but that could just be the angle of the picture. Anyways keep on keeping on cause I love watching you work.

Yes, there are a few wibbly bits that will need some smoothing, either with a file or maybe liquid putty brushed on.

Always happy to have you, and glad I can provide some entertainment/hilarity!

He really is adorably dangerous! I'm not too sure about the red on the ammo belt. It's quite close to the reddish pink in his paws. Maybe a khaki green instead? But as always that's just a suggestion.

Thanks Arch: you're probably right about the belt: I was aiming for cartoony but it does clash a bit.

Bit it of a change of tack:

I painted up the hamster because I missed painting after all that Sprogrot and base making. Now that I'm painting Pig and the base (no pictures yet...) I am missing sculpting! I'm so weird.

I will share progress on the base at some point over the next few days, but in the meantime here is a bit of a 'just for fun' sculpt. I got some Fimo for Christmas that is a nice Christmassy green - much easier to see the details compared to Sprogrot grey.

Step 1: a head, similar size to Sprogrot. Can you tell what it is yet? :)

Step 2: fancied making a smiley face. At this stage I was thinking it might become an evil clown, but I just wasn't getting it. All I knew was (sorry Digga) I wanted to sculpt something non-Orky.

Step 3: added some fat, wider cheeks. At this stage I realised he could become an Ork if I wasn't careful - the proportions are wrong. Needs more forehead to be humanoid.

step 4: added some more forehead to give him better proportions, and gave his teeth some shape in the mouth (they don't follow the lips to the corners, they should have their own independent shape).

Step 5: finally, I decide what he is going to be. A dwarf! A happy, manic, evil little dwarf. Here he is with the preliminary beard roughed in: there will need to be more volume on it to make it more 'real'.

right then: back to painting my base!

Step 3 made me think about some kind of bug... like alice in wonderland caterpillar or that egg that walks on top of the wall (can't remember it's proper name now).
Step 5 made me think of santa claus (with a scary touch)
Last picture made my imagination fly and picture him with aviator glasses on a flying dwarven machine shooting bullets like a crazy. xD

Not an ork....NOT AN ORK!!! Well sir this is more than I can take..I'm out. Lol. At first I thought it was a goblin. Now I see the bad ass dwarf and I must say I approve.

To be fair... You did make Chuckles. We all have our flirtations with the non-Ork world, my friend.

Can't say I didn't feel a little dirty after, though.

Welllllll Chuckles is a giant squig, so he is a big part of orky culture :p also do you have a picture of the stuff you use to sculpt

You do realise that I am going to end up with a collection of your sculpts to paint....

I've got to get in there before you get famous!
