bgcdazzler's first ever mini WIP (a confusion of cockups and learnings)

Wow!

And I also absolutely had to share this.

I scribbled a beakie Space Marine for Zab in celebration of reaching 300 posts.... and he's only gone and turned my drivel into a 'proper' work of art!

I got this in the post and I must say, I'm delighted. Great colours, real painting skill: it even has edge highlights. :)

Thank you so much Zab. I'm honoured. It now has pride of place in my hobby cubby.

The chainmail may be driving you mad, but it's looking great - especially the collar at the back.

What an awesome gift! Go Zab! :D People can be so cool.

I think Zab's dastardly plan was to give me that just so's I'd have to feature yet another beaky on my otherwise boring-space-marine-free thread.

I suspect he's a robot witch.

Not bad for a beaky fan.

Right: as you all know I'm a fan of a good cheat now and then, and I hate armour, so here's tonight's cheat.

1. Draw out some designs - I was thinking of some Celtic knot type affair, but it's just too hard to sculpt... Bah!

2. The cheat: then I drew a design right onto the backplate with a micron pen. I know, I know - but I got the proportions right doing it this way. Don't judge me! I'm only weak!

3. Then I just fill in the spaces with some designs. Don't worry about the gaps, I'm filling them after the bake.

4. To make up for the cheating, I made a lion motif without drawing it first. Honest, guvnor.

5. A bit more smushing.

6. Painted with nail varnish remover to smooth it out - so much easier than my old labour-intensive way.

7. Then I filled the gaps in the armour and stuck on the lion. And there we go! Hopefully some dwarf looking armour.

Just got the breastplate, arms, shoulders and beard to do. What's that you say? Bedtime? Why, I certainly think so!

Looking cool as ice, man! The clothing and armor have really elevated the figure. It tells its own story and gives me lots of scope to imagine who this guy is. Keep up the good work!

One mini heart attack and double check later, and it seems okay. Must've been the angle of the pic.

the fastening on the Chainmail is slightly off centre, because he's looking ever-so-slightly to his left. Other than that it's hopefully pretty symmetrical.

Thank you - I'm very grateful for your eagle eye!

Oh yeah - it was definitely the picture. It looks good in the new one. Sorry about the heart attack! Hopefully the video made up for it....

Thanks everyone (sorry, Sicks), your support is much appreciated. I'm blushing.

Quick update - he now has a chestplate. I've kept it simple so as not to distract from the Beard of Infinite Madness.

next up: shoulders! I'm not going to do pauldrons because he's already getting a it big and unwieldy. I think I have an idea, but we'll see if it works or not soon...

I haven't given much thought to casting this fella - he started as a bit of an experiment (he was going to be a clown originally). If the demand is there I could knock out a few I guess. I'll have to finish him first, of course...

Just readed like 3-4 pages of your stuff.... I am getting angry with such a productivity!!! I think BAM has infected you with his madness and now you don't sleep to do all this stuff... xD xD

I am amazed on how the dwarf is developing, and you shared a lot of good tips too...

King's maulg base is starting to look interesting, I finally approve that tree, now it's looking a lot more real ;)

Pig is good enough, problem cames from the comparison between him and maulg. But you have played your cards pretty well and as far as he remains underneath and in "shadows/ambush mode" he will just enable you to tell a little story so I wouldn't worry further because main focus should be the King. Future pigs will became a whole lot better, I am 100% sure of this. ;)
