Thanks Maenas. Doesn't BaM infect us all with his madness? :silly!:

i know exactly what you mean about Pig. I'm thinking of colouring the rock in more of a reddish brown, or adding some grey dirt to him so he's blended even more with the base. Make him harder to notice at first glance.

I'm glad you like the tree: it's my favourite bit so far!

How to make interesting shoulders?

i had an idea to do a sort of armour on fabric effect on the shoulders. Some metal plates stitched into a heavy fabric for protection and movement. It seemed like a dwarf thing to do.

Do let me know if you think it is rubbish- I've only done one so can soon take it off.

1. Here are the shoulders made covered in cloth. Not too big, because I will add to their bulk in a moment.

2. A brief soujourn to the kitchen for wine: but this time to use it as a rolling pin. I roll a bit flat on some baking paper...

3. Next cut (not all the way through!) in a diamond pattern. I also put a little hole in each diamond, which you can see started here.

4. Bake that, and while it bakes I put a rough fabric texture on the cloth. Maybe not necessary, but I had nothing else to do...

5. When the diamonds have baked I break them off the sheet and, still warm to help them stick, push them into the shoulder. Like so.

6. The finished shoulder, with armoured mini plates over fabric.

good? Bad? Indifferent?

Awesome!

And I'd so grab up a cast of him if you decided to do one. But we've discussed the fact that I intend to be your first mad fan.

Okay, seems the diamonds are acceptable, so here he is before the bake. I just hope they all stay stuck on in the oven...

I can still see some areas that need attention, and the bottom of his beard needs adding... But he should be finished tonight. Yay!

thank god for that.

I was going to ask whether the beard would be added to. Because at the moment the front chest piece is quite plain, but if "beard of gloriousness" is to be added to, that will not be a problem. I really hope this makes sense. I need more tea....

Thanks Tero: I really chucked quite a few at him - probably too many - to attempt to make the armour more interesting. Still, it's all practice.

Arch, all, here are the last bits just before the last bake.

1. His armour needed edging as it was messy leading up to the Chainmail. So added a thin band along the top.

2. The beard added to in two steps, just like before:

a) basic shapes

b) then drawn in hairs

and he's done! Phew. He's one weird-ass looking clown, and there's a few bits I'm not too sure about, but he feels like a step up from Sprogrot and I got to try out some new things with him too so all in all, I'm happy with that.

I'd say he's taken about 25 hours in total (I started him exactly ten nights ago).

Oh, and speaking of Sprogrot... This chappy needs a name! Any suggestions?

And in other news...

I've greenstuffed a rock for Pig to hold onto. It gave me a chance to lengthen his otherwise quite stubby little fingers on his left hand. I've also dirtied him up a bit more in a lighter brown. It's not the full Arnold Schwarzenegger in Predator mud job- just enough to make him less raw pink and standy outy.

Stop being so dam good at every thing lol. Actually don't, I love watching your stuff. It is a lot of fun. The dwarf looks crazy, maybe Dunder Stormrage, or Gund'dar Hammerfist.

Digga seems to be our resident character namer. :)

The longer beard and the edging are good. Hope you're proud of yourself because I'm proud of you!

HHe does look awesome, you should be pleased with yourself

You could name him halfpint, that's about as good as my naming skills get lol

Some random name suggestions: Ondyaw Bloodbrass; Devlyn Ochreflame; Rorey Track-Silver; Gordain Earthseeker.

Some good suggestions here - though DevlynOchreflame sounds more fitting for dashing and dapper dwarf (try saying that three times backwards).

My suggestions are:

Guzunder Bittenfist
Hroth'gar the Mad

um... Keep them coming!

Thinking of the lion crest at his back.... what about his surname being Lionroar (for his laugh), or Lionbeard ?

Pretty much love this one... I would like to point out that I think his weakest point are his eyes and ears, the rest is just awesomesauce.... ^^

Thanks Maenas - yep, still weak on faces. I'm going to practice that next on a new audacious challenge. Not sure what it is yet, but I think I'm inching my way towards someday doing a 'normal' human face. I fear it's going to be pretty hard.

Good of point on the lion. How about 'Dandelion the Bastard'? :)

Maybe something like Leopold _______?
Catches the lion (leo), which does seem emblematic, but also evokes dwarf-rich Germanic culture rather than dwarf-poor French culture. Just a thought.
