bgcdazzler's first ever mini WIP (a confusion of cockups and learnings)

You've pulled the competition pair together nicely (pity since they're in my group ;)
I'm very impressed with the amount you've done on them. Especially since they were sculpted from scratch during the competition after the lady broke. Nicely done.

I managed to paint a single chibi miniature while you sculpted 3, almost 5 miniatures, painted two of them and even put them on a base. Hats off please, all my respect for you ;)

Thanks all - more time would have been lovely, but in a way I'm glad I can move on to the new idea in my head. This shall have to be my 'tabletop' standard: I'll take more care on the next one.

@Arch: thank you! I think the elf is my next painting project. I'm looking forward (weirdly) to getting some paint on all those little bits. So easy to sculpt, so hard to paint: that's my guess. Given that everyone is doing nmm these days I might try that too.

@yeti: thanks but I'm sure your mini has nothing to fear.

@BaM: thanks, I think his skin came out pretty good too - my first proper go at forcing contrast, and I'm quite pleased with it. He does look nicely long-suffering too, I think!

@Marnas: well, when you put it like that... And here was me thinking I'd slowed down a lot given my lack of time/real life shenanigans!

Nice piece Dazz, you should be proud of yourself man. The elf dude is off a bit proportion wise, especially around the hip and lap area, but that I ma sure you will master in time, the details however are mind blowing jaw dropping. Once you get the anatomy right man you will ROCK tha sculpture scene dude!!!

Congrats on finishing two pieces in one week! I'll echo everybody else and say the pace of you work is amazing. I imagine you are the only entrant for the flesh faire that both sculpted and painted your entry? :)

Your elf really turned out well. Have you considered using plastic card for your weapons? It's a little easier to get a hard edge, and if you are careful you can really shape it the same way you would metal (with a file). Although in this case you would not have been able to do the filigre pattern.

Thanks guys - so kind of you to offer your expertise.

@Tero - yes the elf seems off in the pics but it's strange as in the flesh he measures perfectly - hips to thigh, thigh to arm, body to head - he's all in proportion for a skinny human. I wonder if the pose throws him off...

@khavor: yep, I was the only one mad enough to give that a go. Stressful, but fun. I have also ordered some plasticard - a good shout for weapons - and I may replace this sword depending on experiments with it. For now though I'm going to paint him up as I think I need to practice more. I've neglected painting in favour of sculpting and want to treat the elf as a meaty project for practicing blending, freehand, and some nmm too.

Having said that...

i I thought I would take a couple days off and attack the elf paintwork afresh after this weekend. But then while watching a film last night I had a little play with a demon bust idea I had in mind. Here's where he got to - early stages, but so far I like bits of it.

I have two running conspiracy theories running through my mind with you. First your actually a professional sculptor showing us your work for they day and just telling us oh hey look what I did while watching a movie. The second is your a f#*%*# wizard. I bet the latter.

You're all very kind - mad, too, but kind.

@zab: can I be a robot wizard instead? I'm sure I would look terrifying in stripy tights...

@Digga: still an enthusiastic amateur, I promise!

@schwarz: a tree face is a great idea. I have a longish term aim to do a mini in a forest, surrounded by trees with faces on them, maybe painted up like (a cruder version of) Bailey's lovely OSL diorama with a single lantern in the dark... But not worked up the courage to give it a go yet. This dude isn't meant to be a tree: hopefully the new update below will make him more demonic.

@khavor: thank you! I am hoping to keep levelling up. I personally see a big difference in detail to this one and, say, my Sprogrot earlier. I'll always keep trying to get better...

@Tero: I sent one to you - could you not see it? :) only kidding, but don't worry - I have plans for you my friend..,

@Arch: nonsense - you're absolutely nailing the Chibi style, and get your models much smoother than I ever could.

@bob: thank you, doctor. :)

right, more playtime on this one. I've added a jaw, horns, eyes and texture.

I love the textures you give him. Would you please consider casting this one again? I would love to get him under my brushes.
