Thanks everyone.

@Arch: I certainly recommend doing a swap with Schwarz - the book is absolutely beautiful.

@Schwarz: thank you again - I've started sketching in the new book (pics soon) and the paper is perfect I love the cover paper too, the details just disappear and reappear when it catches the light, like magic. I'm a paper and sketchbook hoarder too (in fact the last time I was in Germany was to attend a print and paper conference), and this goes to the top of my favourites list.

@Tero: yep, two light sources on this one - hopefully it looks more evident on today's pic (below).

@Darrh, Flu: thank you both - it's nowhere near the quality of Roman's beautiful paintjob on Abalam, but I'll take that as a sign it's going in the right direction!

@khavor: ha, 'jack of all trades, master of none' is the phrase I think!

Righto then: here's a bit more work on War, beefing up the contrast on him.

Also SaintToad and Darthmarsh's epic basing has led me to thinking about basing the elf. So here's a first rough on it, even though the paint's not finished.

EDIT: weird pic in place of proper pic

War looks fabulously menacing with your two light source scheme. The elf does need a cool base to go with the great sculpt and insane freehand.

Dazzler, good to hear the paper works for you. Should be pretty robust.

I really love what you are doing to your demon bust. The effect works very well, at least when pictured.

War looks absolutely increadible mate. Just what you'd expect to see on a Diablo game cover, atmospheric and menacing.

Nice start on the base. Things to think about when basing. Framing, rule of thirds (same as in photography) flow and focal points (I use the golden mean) you've got some really nice parallel movement between the tree and the staff but it may 'feel' nicer with the tree was on the other side. At the moment the elf's face (your main focal point) is to the far right and looking out of the frame. If you switch his position with the tree, the eye will follow a more natural path (left to right) and your elf will be looking through the frame which should also look more asthetically please. Hope this makes sense :)

Excellent. Company is always fun while priming cattle prods. Welcome Claire. I'll see if I can sort out some snacks.

Hey, what's going on here? Ye scurvy landlubbers! Avast ye! Honestly, I turn my back on my thread for five minutes and the whole place is littered with empty pizza boxes, playing cards and discarded cattle prods. Sheesh...

hello everyone, sorry for wandering off (some of that Real Life stuff to deal with, but nothing too onerous). Miss me?

I haven't been entirely lazy, though. I've progressed things on a bit with my projects (not entirely sure how I ended up with three on the go, but hey ho). First up:

The elf:

Bit of neatening done on him, edged his little wrap etc. And knocked up the base a bit more.

war:

More skin work, deepening shadows, base coated his toga thing, and done a glowing eye effect.

Warrior woman:

not a lot done, just added some clothing and hair. She had a bit of an accident and her legs broke (seems to happen a lot with my figures), but I'll fix her up in time for the next bake.

Yay you're back! *pounce*

The tree on the elf's base seems to be angled too far out for me. Perhaps shortening it slightly and straightening it? I'll leave others to give their opinions, but something keeps throwing me off when I see it.

War is looking awesomely menacing. Lovely glowing eye effect and I'm keen to see what you've got planned for his robe and the finishing touches.

Do you have an armature running through warrior lady's legs? Seems odd that they would keep cracking there, but I suppose it depends on what accidents you keep having with them. :)

Glad that you're back and okay *hugs*

Real life stuff, pssht. Likely story, everyone uses that excuse, do better :p lol. Seriously hope all is well in that department though. Se what happens when you spoil us with all your fast paced awesome work.

The elf came out great. I think the part that throws arch off is its missing a sword right? what is in his left hand? Great piece though. As for War, those eyes and skin. All around great effect and I think the painting skill you have shown on that is making it easier for me to picture the entire female warrior lady climbing out of a dragon. Great work all around bud and glad to hear from you.

Hey! You're back! Love the base you've done for the elf, now finish the mini! Also love the glowy eye effect you've done for War.

Good start on the the warrior woman, but something wonky is going on with her hips. Both legs look to me as if they need more meat on the top. Right leg especially needs a clean joint / hard corner where the top of the leg meets the body.
