Bin Laden has apparently been killed by US Special Forces.

I think keeping fewer people involved made it less likely he'd move again. He must have felt pretty secure in Pakistan near a top Pakistani military training center.

But anyway, I think Robert Clay Allison would have approved:

I am extremely happy this douchetard is finally dead. About freakin time they got him. I think the conspiracy nuts will have a field day though with how they "buried him at sea." I'm not into conspiracies but I wonder why the heck they did that. I mean, the silly Birthers whined for months about a birth certificate, now they will be the "Deathers" I guess, demanding a corpse for proof...

The one question I ask myself is, if these extremist assholes get their panties in a bunch and go killing people over a hillbilly nobody pastor burning their "holy book," and cartoons of their holy man Muhammad, what will they be planning now that Bin Laden has been killed? Let's just hope the CIA keeps on their toes...

I believe it was so that there would never be a "shrine" to him that people could use as a focus point. Plus by giving a funeral according to Islamic law they can't point to what horrible infidels we are.

I don't think there will be any big response since they never needed an excuse to try to kill Americans.

Well if there is a conspiracy the target would be to bring down Obama - nothing else. But I don't believe that.

I am however fascinated with conspiracy theories and especially the time and effort people put into their "research". I've read everything from denying of holocaust, moonlanding, evolution, global warming. Illuminati, Bilderberg group, JFK conspiracies, and our own Swedish conspiracy surrounding Olof Palme. It's fun to see the similarities even if some parts of it is really disheartening and can breed cynicism.

I actually belong to another forum, where Conspiracy Theories are discussed quite a bit. That's what first brought me to that site, but now I noticed I stay mostly in the more realistic realms of boring old politics. Good CT are like reading alternate reality fiction. Highly entertaining (and some are actually kinda convincing)

OK, I have to ask this one. Is it a conspiracy to claim that the event didn't happen or is it a conspiracy to claim it did?

What is the evidence that it happened at all? All we have now is the word of a government that lies to its people all of the time, that it did happen? We (according to the government) had the body, but now there isn't one to show for. We have DNA, but I'm sure most of us cannot read DNA findings, so we wouldn't know the difference between a Tree Frog and Bin Laden's, let alone our own. Again all we have is the word of the government. According to "ABC News" they produced a video of the room where it happened, it is also suspect since the footage is only in the room and never leaves from that spot. So we don't know if that is even from the compound. Sure we could believe that it is, but then again ABC News has been an open door for this administration so can we trust their reporting?
Also video out of Pakistan shows the supposed compound on fire, so I guess we won't be able to go there and look over any evidence. I know its not in English so we can't say the it is even the compound, but? As for the martyrdom shrine that is a load of crap! That's a shiite custom and not a Sunni one. Bin laden was sunni and it is forbidden in Islam to do such things. That is why there isn't one made for the Prophet (if you want to call him that) Mohammed.

I guess what bothers me is that there really isn't any evidence that this has happened. Why would you get rid of the body? The only piece of evidence that you need to prove such an event happened so soon after it was reported. I know its a conspiracy and we're not to know the truth.

Let's hear what the real story is then, Clarissa. Explain it all.

I'm very glad that he's dead. I wasn't personally affected by 9/11, but I can easily understand why many in NY would celebrate, and I think it's a good thing for them. It's a catharsis that they deserve because they were directly affected. If destructive celebrations are allowed for something as stupid as a sports team winning a game then they deserve their peaceful and bloodless celebration for this.

Killing him was a smart move because it ensures he cannot be a problem in the future and he deserved death- it was a justified reaction for our defense. As for the woman who was killed- it is regrettable but there were no hostages there. They knew who they were living with and, unfortunately, that makes them accessories. It's a shame that she is dead, but it is because of the actions of the coward who tried to use her as a shield. The soldiers could not allow him to get away and they completed their mission successfully with minimal casualties. They are extremely brave men who launched into danger even without the gaurantee of a ride home. I'm glad they were evacuated as swiftly as they were.

I understand the reasons behind the burial at sea. While something about it does seem a little off, I am glad that they did it.

Man I had a snappy reply to give back to these comments. The banter was unbelievable. Truly something to behold. Then I accidentally hit the reply to thread button by mistake and lost all of it, so now all you get is this! :D

If I can remember it all it went something like this:

blah blah blah blah blah blah! and then you all would reply back commenting on my unchallengeable wit and reasoning. And I would comment back thanking all of you for agreeing with me and for being such loyal subjects. Truly amazing conversations like that inspire the mind.

What evidence would convince you? Need you to put your finger in the bullet holes?
To say he was killed when he wasn't would be insane political suicide.
The photograph of the body that went out over the Pakistani tv and the web, combined with the fact Obama has nothing to gain and everything to lose by making it up is enough for me.

The reason stated that he was buried so fast was because of the outrage if it wasn't. A body should be buried within 24h according to his faith. I also heard Saudi Arabia wouldn't accept his body.

I think the reason something feels fishy is because most are used to how stuff plays out in movies, books or videogames when the big boss is killed. We had no dramatic turn or anything at else that pointed to this. As it should be.

EDIT: @Vike: what forum? :)

Yep, me too.

And I believe we went to the moon as well, yet I've never been there to verify. Sometimes, we concede to the experts to tell us the truth. Sure, occasionally it's not the whole truth, but what are you gonna do?
