Okay, here we are folks. Gallery submission approved. The final product. Special thanks to Demihuman for hooking up the montage. He does such an excellent job. And to Andy G for teaching me about light placement on metals. My thoughts are that the mini and base are both pretty good, but not for each other. Still, overall very happy.

Listen, I REALLY need everyone's help voting and commenting. The gallery hasn't updated since the 22nd of August. So nobody is seeing this now, and when it does finally update there will be a tsunami of submissions and I am likely to get lost in the sauce. Actually, someone saw it somehow because my first vote was a 1. So here is the link to the submission, followed by my Putty&Paint link. Please vote here too if you can...

Thanks 10. Roger that, I had to edit my post above where I said I realized the base isn't for the mini. I had posted some auto correct nonsense. But yes, that seems to be the consensus from everyone. Great mini. Great base. Wrong together. I certainly learned my lesson.

I should explain my motive. I had these great statue pieces from Scibor. I just HAD to include them. But they didn't fit well on a smaller base. I started out at like 2x2 inches and kept growing as I tested the compositions. I had hoped that his elevation would make the size problem go away. It didn't, and I was too far along to change my mind. Perhaps I should have added a cowering wood elf, eh?

Don't get me wrong, please vote honestly. Meaning don't fluff the score because you feel it's under scored. However, that being said, I am bored at work during a guard shift of sorts, so I have been able to sit here and calculate what each voter has given me. My first vote was a 1. Then pretty fair voting got me up to 8.4 overall with 15 total votes. Then votes number 16,17,18, and 19 were all 1s according to my calculator. I know, I know, don't get hung up over voting. But my question is can somebody just not log in and continually vote 1 over and over???

I think you can only vote once from an offline ip address. And The score that I gave you is genuine. When you creat a piece that goes beyond another good paint job and establishes a connection between the viewer and your work you have created something worthy if a great score(which you did)

voted too (irrelevant of my critique here).

Mostly agree with the others about base=great, figure=great, but they don't really go together.
It's not only the size, but style too I think. A stylized, high-contrast-clean-NMM vs a much more realistic base.
(And I miss the red flowers :D )

as for the size: don't worry, there are some great painters, where the running joke is "if you looks really closely on the picture you can even find a painted miniature on the base".

Nice work there mate voted. Very pleased with the way you've come along keep at it! One small tip next mini do a smaller base maybe even a bought plinth. Keep the focus on the mini. What's the next one going to be?

Thank you all! Very supportive and you all kept it real with me. Appreciative of that.

Andy: I've got a plinth sent from Khonner of some awesome, exotic wood. I'll use this, likely. This time I'll keep it simple. Think I want to try my hand at some brick work or cobble stones. Maybe. Anyway, next up? Maagaan from Mierce minis. He's going to have a tiger striped cloak. Going to really focus on nailing his face. And this time going with a very dark NMM, but I'm going to glaze in some colors. Green or blue and brown. Gold accents.

As as you can see, I got a little over zealous on his sword there with the sand paper. Can any sculptors out there tell me the best way to fix this? I was thinking brown stuff-since it's known to make good sharp corners. I just need to bulk out the blade there about 1/3mm maybe. And make sure to sculpt in the angle.

Oh and I may concurrently work on a Chosen warrior of Chaos from GW. Just a quick project to knock out and to paint when the other project is giving me painters block.

I know this is a lot of armored figures. My next project may be a lot of skin. I'm thinking Goliath from Simon. (Former Rackham sculptor that is awesome)!!!

Voted! Beautiful work, still can't get over that sword. So pretty. I do agree with what seems to be the general consensus on the base/mini combo, but it doesn't change the fact that both are really well done.

Maagaan's face seems properly craggy and dour, looks like fun!

How does his face look? Trying to really do well here. Keep in mind he has 5 bumps across his forehead. Not sure what they are but think I'll end up making them metal. But I started those off by doing a purple and red glaze around the bumps. Anyhow, thoughts?

Hey mate,

Nice start on the face. Building some nice contrast there. Maybe just a little darker under the brows and into the tear duct side of the eye socket.

On the sword. Brown stuff is probably the way to go (I haven't used it personally). That or super fine milliputt, both set hard and can be sanded. Make sure you use some sort of block for the sanding though so you get a nice even angle.

Not sure if its the mini or the paint job but for some reason he looks like dennis hopper to me. Maybe I am still to blurry eyed this morning and coffee does increase my vision somehow, but really good start.
