BloodFather's Axis of Chaos

Again I have to politely disagree with some ! IMHO the red flowers are a great addition think bout this when we talk of spot colors on a mini... They are used to break up the model and are used as contrast to the rest. Just carry that thought over to the base because the red flowers "standout" it actually makes the statue stand out more and the statue and the red flowers in turn make the grass and other plant life standout further. You guys who live that nmm know its about a huge contrast gradient .. So here it's the same API action of the rule : my bite is : "the flower mantraps stay " they do wonders for the overall look and feel of the ambiance ! Just my $.02 of course. BFOK is the artist with a vision so he'll make the final decision.

Well allrighty then!!! The flowers stay!!!

That was exactly my intent, BaM. To use it as a spot color to break up the monotony of the greens and browns. I think it succeeds at this, but my concerns were twofold: the viewer could mistake the scale and not see that they are intended to look like giant flowers. And second I had trouble painting it. One of those things where I am not sure where or how to apply the highlights. Just hope it looks ok. I put some dark dots on it to add interest, may not show up well on that last photo. Anyway, thanks guys looks like I will keep it for now.

....although....I could always put some mushrooms there instead. White with red polka dots.

They look nicely done (painted from here) being the whole top of the flower is of the( horizontal nature) meaning that gets the most highlights according to the " stop sign rule) it's a rule of thumb on the site mainly medieval bog on the oz painters forum. In other words according to that rule the too of the stop sign that horizontal top gets the most light so there really is no gradation but for flowers the outer parts of each petal can get a little more highlights and maybe an edge highlight on the ends of each petal. But really doesn't look like it needs any more of anything. You've done well young son! Lol

Precisely what I was thinking I gave each green tendril a brighter color on the outside. I gave the leaves an edge highlight and a vein highlight. Can't do much more. Still, I am now stuck on this shroom idea. Might be too much of a pain to dig out the flowers and replace. But overall I'm pretty sure the piece would look better for it. One larger shroom in one spot, in the other spot a little colony of smaller shrooms. Red tops with white dots. Patches of moss on the outskirts.

I think my initial point has been mis interpreted, I was asking you to check on the scale alone, not that I hated the red flowers. They actually look a nice focal point for the fauna.
if the scale is right, then fine, I would keep them.

Yeah ah I caught on to what you were saying. I guess my issue was I didn't want the viewer to be confused about the scale, as you were and as is very understandable given it's size. I am likely to keep them.

Some smaller flowers or your mushrooms could help with making the point that these are giant flowers. Or maybe the fauna :). That's such an awesome idea, by the way.

Rockin' base. I think the variety is really pleasing to look at, of both the flora and the elevation.

I sure like the way that base is shaping up. the oversized flowers in front have a jurassic feel to me that I like.

Right so you guys know I just purchased an awesome mini from Mierce. Maagaan it is called. Can't wait to finish this one and start on him. But I am also about to make another purchase and would like your advice. I am going with Raging Heroes because they look like some high quality casts and I really dig their feel. But I have to choose either a bigger project in a Manticore with Rider and optional Lammasu head. OR I could paint Brunhilde Von Konigsmark. I love them both, and will ultimately paint both of them. But which do you think I should get?

I'd do Brunhilde, errr I mean I'd grab Brunhilde, No I mean get hold of her,,...No I mean sort her out , No I'd paint her, Yes that's it I'd paint her.

I am going to paint her until my acrylics are dry. Ferrule deep.

Sorry best I could do. BVK it is...that Manticore is calling me though. I'd do the entire beast in a deep reddish purple hide, going darker for his hair and lighter for his facial skin. Sort of monochromatic, a simple pallet. Then the rider in SENMM. But the sky part would be a bruised yellow.

I agree on Brunhilde. She just seems more interesting then the manticore. Great stuff man. Keep it coming.

thats a really good looking sword! for being NMM ;)
next step would be some tinting of blues and/or browns and/or any other color.
