BloodFather's Axis of Chaos

See the copper on the armor was a great step in a fantastik direction. One thing I know is color. I've studied it quite a lot as I belive color choice is as important as the technique you use. The whole armor being copper is great and accents the skin in a wonderful poping contrast. And always going back to your strengths is the way you play the miniature game. Iow if you keep practicing the one thing you do more than well nmm then every 6 months of practice makes it not just done well but it becomes comparable to others strengths weather it be bound freehand or 10 balls glazing. Iow you become more proficient at something your already steps ahead from others. I'm loving looking at your page a finding these wonderfully progressed models. Your skills are I creasing 10 fold. You my friend need to start competing. Crystal brush anyone.

Thanks so much BaM. I think I'd love to get competitive, if anything it will drive me to improve.

So um, as most of you know who follow this humble thread, I've been looking to do some steampunk for awhile. However, a certain sculpt stopped me in my tracks and I will have to push the Steampunk project to the right. The SP will likely be a diorama anyway, so I need time to develop the idea.

Olivier Bouchet does work for many many companies, including Mierce. Like Stephan Simon, he also has his own personal range. I love this, because they are exclusive and limited and you know it's going to be good if it is part of their personal range. I am doing Cannibal from Simon's personal range next, but after that I'll do Gokan from Bouchet. It's 54mm, my first at this size. I really wanted to showcase my skin tone abilities on my current project, but Goliath is so veiny and scabrous that I really can't show a smooth tone. Gokan will satisfy this, especially because he is so big. 31 Euros for shipping to the US if anyone is interested. Check out his blog:

Yeah dude....those guys are the best in the biz!!!! The resin that Simon casts his figures in is the absolute best material to paint on. It has a greenish yellow tint to it. If you look on Putty &Paint you can find a lot of good sculptors. I will continue to update my page with exclusives like this!

The Barbarian is looking really nice mate. I think you'll need a few stronger highlights on the copper and some verdigris to differentiate it from the skin, but then that's probably your plan, you've probably already stated that in your thread and I'm just being to damn lazy to scroll back a few pages! (in my defense its late and I'm tired!)

Thank you Mr Darth. You know, was just thinking about ways to highlight the armor today, and I picked up some VMC white glaze. Is anyone familiar with this stuff? I know recently Andy G highlighted a red cloak by glazing a white over it, at the advice of SkeletetteS. It looked great, and I want to go with the same highlighted base coat type effect here. Basically, in the same way that I used Rhinox hide to shade my ratskinflesh/Mournfang brown basecoat, I will use the white glaze to highlight the Ratskin+Ivory layers. In theory, should be awesome.

Also wanna take this time to say that it looks like I could potentially end up in the field soon. Yakima training center is a high plains desert that really, really sucks. Will be there for a couple weeks. I am majorly bummed because it will keep me away from my pallet. However, I did buy some more greenstuff and brown stuff to go with my milliput. Also have some tiny wire. So I'll take the sculpting tools and just mess around. Who knows, maybe I'll come back with something kinda workable. Also, if I have room I'll bring a plinth along and knock out some base work. So it can be somewhat fruitful. But I really, really need to avoid going altogether for personal reasons, so maybe I'll get lucky :)

Cheers all and thanks for the support u all have shown me.

Going to the field for 6 days. High plAins desert. I brought some milliput, greenstuff, and brown stuff. If anyone has any good beginner tutorials for sculpting, please leave a link.

Depressed that Goliath will have to await my return. When I get back I start medically retiring from the military. This means more time for my hobbies!!!

Well sorry you gotta put em on hold buddy. He was coming along nicely. As for sculpting tips. Bring a toothpick. Best make shift sculpting tool ever. Short of that I would pick up an anatomy book or get some reference photos of what you want to sculpt. Possibly some paper clips for an armetures if you need one.

I can't wait for you to get out you paid your dues and have done an outstanding job in a place called the sandbox .none of us will never know the pain you have to deal with physically /mentally from being a soldier. So when you get out when you come back, you'll be able to enjoy the hobby 24/7

My philosophy has always been to look forward, never dwell on the past, so here's to a bright new future with a different sort of adventure in store.

Thank you all for the words of inspiration. I mean it when I say that I consider all of you true friends. Without a doubt, I consider myself closer to many of you than some of my face to face friends. If that makes me a loser-so be it!

Maybe bring a sketch pad. Even if you aren't great at drawing I bet you can get some neat stuff down if you scribble long enough to loosen up.

Going to the desert is probably more of a PITA then I can imagine, but a little outdoorsy exhaustion sounds pretty good right now. Maybe some good inspiration for some SENNM :)

Looking forward to seeing your sculpts! That's something I'd love to get into, but I don't think I have the skill for it, so I'll try to become a decent painter first. :p

Here are the two best sculpting tips I have learned myself. Get your hands dirte! Don't think you can't sculpt say you just have to learn it. The second is don't get the hulk smash syndrome. It can get agrovating and you just want to smash everything you worked on but don't. Keep pushing your clay around and know when to walk away. Also I feel the same way BFK.

Actually Mr bfok is an amazing illustrator... I've seen some evidence of this here and there..so great paintiner ,great illustrator and to top it off a damn good writer and story teller... a real Renaissance man I feel!!!!SOMBODY STOP THIS MAN!!!✏??????HES ON FIRE!!!

After a long wait, finally got some Maagaan pics in the gallery that weren't grossly over exposed and out of focus. While not the most technically sound piece, and admittedly there are some areas of laziness, I learned a ton with this model. Big things in the future!!!

Thank you for commenting and voting!!!
