I think I did this before. But it was along time ago and I got the idea after sending Supervike a link to watch Night of the Living Dead for free.

So, what is your favorite horror movie? I mean what really gets you jumping at shadows and afraid to sleep with the closet door open? My top five:

1) the Shining
2) the Exorcist
3) Poltergeist (that clown was just creepy)
4) The Others
5) Night of the Living Dead

Movies that I have gotten really scared from more recently:

1) The Ring
2) Any other horror movie that involves asian kids.. or other kids

Got to agree about the clown in Poltergeist... I hate clowns!

I think Alien can be clearly classified as a horror film, the sequels clearly are action movies, but the first one is driven by horror more than anything.

28 Days Later - definitely one of my favorites lately

The Ring
The Descent - I thought I\'d hate it, and it\'s not amazing, but it\'s one that was well above my expectations

I hate all the movies in this stupid new genre of \"torture horror.\" Where they don\'t really use any horror aspects but it\'s rather all just about how they can creep people out through torture or threat of torture...(Saw, Hills have Eyes, Hostel, etc...)

- The Ring (and I would actually hold the American re-make slightly above the Japanese original)
- R Point (Korean horror film set during the Vietnam war)
- The Omen (the classic one)
- Opera (Dario Argento\'s best film, of the ones I\'ve seen at least...)
- Jaws

I tend to like \'monster\' movies as horror movies, as opposed to the slasher/torture porn genre.

The Descent (had low expectations, was pleasantly surprised)
Slither (cheesy good b-grade fun!)

Movies that scare the sh*t out of me and I will never watch again. (still have the occasional nightmare about these)

The only horror movie that has ever truly scared me was the original Frankenstein, which I watched when I was about 7 years old. That movie not only scarred me for years, it made me horror movie fanatic.

However, there have been numerous horror movies that have certainly been entertaining and suspenseful; some have even had me on the edge of my seat.

So, here are my favorite horror movies, even though they may not scare me:

1. The Evil Dead (how is this movie not on anyone\'s list? Sure, it\'s not exactly terrifying, but it stars the incredibly talented - and highly underrated - Bruce Campbell).
2. Night of the Living Dead
3. Shaun of the Dead
4. Dawn of the Dead (the original)
5. Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn

Side-note: one thing that really, really creeped me out wasn\'t a movie, it was a video game: Silent Hill. There were plently of scary moments in that.

Poltergeist is one of the few that really got me...the clown part and the part where the guy is ripping off his face.

I love horror movies and am having a hard time recalling many that really had me going.

But there is something about evil dolls or ventriloquist dummies that gives me the creeps!

And the horror films. I haven´t watched many lately but one that scared me the most was Blair witch project. Mainly because I was quite young back then I and I was going to scouting trip the following day.

Hmm, let me think.

In no particular order:

Ring (The first one, Ring 2 was dissapointing, and I\'m talking about the Japanese versions, not seen the remakes).

28 Days Later
The Exorcist
Poltergeist (probably the first horror film I watched, at least the first one I remember actually scaring me, must have been about 14 years old, I think).

Other films of note I\'ve seen the last few years:
Dog Soldiers was good, low budget but very well done.

I went to see the original version of The Thing when it was shown as a wednesday special here about three years ago. It was in the original condition after it had been shown loads of times, all the scratches on the film and stuff.

Of course, there are several others that are great, a number already mentioned by other people.

I have to say the most common re-pop here that does actually seriously wierd me out is \'The Exorcist\'.

28 Weeks later scared the bejesus out of me sheeriy in suspense alone! That has a few good \"Jumpy\" moments in it.

I don\'t really get scared by films (not trying to show off ) so I don\'t really enjoy the genre as a whole. But I like to feel uncomfortable and uneasy - atmospheric horror I suppose - and The Shining and The Ring do that to me.

i\'m shocked to see 28 Days Later on there, I thought that was one of the most aweful movies i\'ve ever seen, I really wanted my money and my time back for sitting through that one, one of the most un-scary movies ive ever seen, right up there with the Blair Witch Project.

I think both of those films are quite scary, allthough not enough to end up on my list. I, however, am more surprised to see Poltergeist mentioned so much. Just shows how different people are.

That\'s nothing to be scared or even concerned about. It\'s their loss! If they fake it, how are we ever going to learn how to do it properly? The table, though... THAT is scary!! lol
