Will I get lynched if I say I really liked Thor despite going into the cinema with quite a shitload of prejudice?

I wanna see a good movie about an anti-hero. One where you know the protagonist is a bad guy, but you end up rooting for him.

Kina like Darkblade. Lets see the bad guys win more often, and less steriotypical bad guys while we're at it.

Have you seen collateral? That's the most recent one that springs to mind

I think Thor is an excellent adaption of the comic. I expected good action, some dry wit, some betrayal and it was all there. Comics are not the place to find profound wisdom. BTW Brendan really continues the work of R. Jordan in a very satisfying way! The series Game of Thrones has very good anti heros and so far the series is good enough to watch.

You both are sort of right. Robert Jordan wrote several books in the 80's featuring Conan. But Robert Howard was of course the original author back in the 30's.

Wasn't there a group of authors who picked up where Howard left off? I seem to remember something about working with his unfinished manuscripts. Dang it! Now I'm going to have to hit the search engines. It's too bad I'm at work and actually have to....work. lol!

I'm no expert on this, but I think De Camp (or something like that) took on a bunch of the stories, and basically changed them around, sometimes rewriting them. Pretty sure I have lots of those paperbacks. More recently, the Robert E. Howards original texts were restored.

Okay, just a quick few that fit the bill to one degree or another:

Point Blank
Hombre
Escape From New York
Bad Lieutenant
Leon
Fight Club
Payback
Sin City

Payback is brilliant for its anti-hero in it. Plus the guy getting bitch-slapped is ace, seeing as he is paying for it ^^

That's easy, I live on a harbour =D There's even a handy little static compass at the end of it that points to anywhere i'd want to go.
All I have to do is commandeer one of those row boats and I can be there in like ...pffff...10 minutes.

Fair enough. But I did enjoy Ed Norton's Hulk and the Iron Man movies.
Well those were pretty good movies in their own right, and I think on paper they make decent prospects for movies because the concept 'makes sense' in the wider scheme of things. But a Thor movie was certainly way down the list of must-do movie adaptations for me since the underlying idea is something I have trouble taking seriously in the first place.
