*Thread name changed -

A couple of you have PM\'d me, but I\'ll tell the CMON world here: (Yes, I realize I\'m a dirty, dirty attention whore, but I can\'t help it)

My Urban Combat Marine army took 2nd in painting in the GT. Also, this year was my first Demon comp.

All 5 of my mini\'s made final cut, including the mounted Gothmog I received from ME-11. My Drawf Troll Slayer Musician got an honorable mention.

My Wolf Priest also got honorable mention, which is a huge acknowledgement for me; coming in behind the world\'s best painters...let\'s me know I\'m at least in the ballpark.

My Bug Hunters took silver...I\'m thrilled about that!

I saw them all in Chicago, and they are fine pieces! Congrats, and I hope to see them on the GW site or in White Dwarf.

Thanks...I actually used to live in Milan a few years ago, and played at Riders most of the time. I also played in down town Ann Arbor at that store in the mall that had the sunken gaming area.

Wow, a local! Riders is still around but they got rid of their gaming tables. Ypsi also has its own GW store now, just off the Huron St. exit on I-94. I don\'t have a clue what place in the mall you\'re talking about ??? When did you live in Milan?

I lived in Milan for a year, and moved to St. Louis in 2003.

I guess that shop in the mall went away...it was really nice though.

hehehe...I just realized, I\'ve only been painting for a few years!

I think he\'s talking about Underground on E. University. I\'m not sure if it\'s still there...

Very nice entries for the first time out!

Congratulations on the Silver for your 40K squad - they were one of the first I took pictures of at the Chicago GD, and was impressed with the quality of the figures.

It was my first Golden Demon attendance as well, and my entries got honorable mention with a Silver in the Lord of the Rings single miniature category... it\'s an amazing feeling, isn\'t it? I wasn\'t quite sure what to think when someone came up and told me that it looked like mine had won an award. Your stuff looks very good, and I was also impressed with the Trollslayer in person - I must\'ve missed your Wolf Priest in the shuffle, but things got kinda hectic after first cut...

@ hakoMike - Don\'t suppose you were one of the folks on the bus from the Ypsi GW store, were you? Our bus from the Novi store stopped there en route to Chicago.

Thanks! Let me say that your Gandolf was S I C K! You really need to update your pics here in CMON to show the bridge. Do you have any idea how many people were floored by that?

Also, what else of yours got honorable mention?

Anyway, thanks again for the nice comments. The Troll Slayer was a free fig I got from our GW store for some door prize thingie. I painted it in a little over a week, and didn\'t expect it to make first cut...but it got an honorable mention.

Also, I appreciate the comments on the bug-hunters. I spent well over 400 hours painting them. Even though they are technically extremely well painted, they aren\'t as visually appealing. This year, I\'m going to work on my style to brighten it up a bit.

great job both of you placing in a REALLY difficult GD (probably the best the US has had from the looks of it), and really nice looking work.

Thanks! I\'ve got pictures of Gandalf on the bridge posted now:
Entry #165288

So far as seeing people\'s reactions, no, I wasn\'t able to spend a lot of time over by the figures except first thing in the morning when I dropped off my entries and took a ton of pictures - when I did kinda hang around to see what people thought of my miniatures, they didn\'t really seem to get a lot of recognition. I was pretty amazed by a lot of the other entries, too. I wasn\'t able to come back to the Golden Demon area until after 3pm, when I was pleasantly surprised to find out all my entries had made first cut and Gandalf was actually moved to the cabinet with the other LotR winners.

So far as the rest of my entries, I believe they all received honorable mention and were getting pictures taken for the next White Dwarf issue - guess I\'ll have to wait and find out, but I\'m positive my Vior\'la Fire Warriors and Genestealer Patriarch did, because I got a chance to chat with the judges afterwards about them specifically and they apparently went over well. I believe they said my Sorceror of Tzeentch was honorable mention also when I turned in my ticket to pick him up, but by that time my jaw was already on the floor regarding Gandalf and things are kinda hazy. (I never got any of my ticket stubs back, except for Gandalf\'s, and whether they were honorable mention or not was wrote on the back of the GW-held stubs.)

(Sorry to quasi-derail the thread, but you did ask...) These were my other GD figures and their entries here on CMoN, hazy pictures and all:

Your Sorcerer was awsome, and I really loved the genestealer...I kept staring at it in the case!

You\'re not derailing the thread at all...I want everyone who \"popped their demon cherry\" to post up so we can all \'high-five\' each other.

I was indeed! Man, I\'m amazed at how many CMON\'ers I ran into last weekend without realizing it!

BTW, after the fact we figured that the bus\' air conditioner had two settings: \'off\' and \'revenge.\' lol

EDIT: Woo hoo! My giant is on page two of the honorable mention page!!! >>LINK<<

I changed the name of the thread...

Congrats to everyone who entered, and did well. I spoke to a couple of the judges whom I have known for a while, and they said this was the best Demon comp the US has ever seen...and they weren\'t \"saying that\".
