I have had a bit of a burn out after the chequers, I have painted a bit of the black armor and the inside of the chaos lords cloak.

Those 40k figs are a grind. Just when you think you are done there is a new holster, or strap, or armor plate that you didn't see before. And then you have to figure you out what color the Librarians glasses case should be or if his belt should be the same color as his suspenders. Maybe for motivation paint something more organic on the side, say a draqon? Or shopping usually helps. It is Christmas time..

Isn't it funny that the minis you paint for fun or for others and don't agonize over seem to come out best? Weird. maybe the guys over at massive voodoo are onto something when they say to let go and just paint, don't think, just paint.

That is very true. Having a self imposed deadline is working great for me so far. I am still doing work on other projects a little but knowing that something will be done at the end of of the month is making me paint a lot different. I am paying much more attention to the early stages so that if i run out of time my project will still at least be table top instead of half primer. I am also sticking to the plan instead of experimenting as I go.

As far as the baby sling goes you guys have it all wrong. As a Daddy Astartes initiate the tech priests provide the progeny of the gene-seed with a Fisher-Price pattern auto-bassinet.

Now i just need a milk servitor... I knew should have gotten in on that Kingdom Death Kickstarter. lol

LOL with the sling idea. That reminds me of the time when I painted a mini in my car while driving to a tournament, not my most brightest moment, but in my defense it had to have 3 colors so I didnt get disqualified. Also the silver stains on the dash remained there as a constant reminder, "DON'T PAINT AND DRIVE!"

Wow. How did you do at the tournament?

Okay, converted the Knight and Priestess. Waiting for the primer to dry while I type this.

So I was wondering what to do with the Knight's sword. I love the idea of an old school AD&D style bastard sword with the weird spurs on the blade but the one on the mini was really poorly shaped. So i clipped it off. I also ditched the doughy looking horns on the priestess' head and cut off the end of her staff. I thought about making a new sword from plasticard but first i went down to the basement to see if i had something I could cannibalize. I also looked for some sort of staff for the priestess and something to replace her baguette "horns". look what I found:

A pretty sweet weapon sprue! I think it's from Reaper. It's got a very stylish spear. (Probably you could call it a Glaive, if you don't know, better ask your DM.) There is also a neat crystal staff with like, magical smoke coming off of it. I like the staff but that crystal is too small for me and trying to figure out how to paint magical sculpted smoke sounds like a pain in the ass right now. We will keep the spear. The knight arm actually looks like it is posed better for a spear anyways.

So I am going to drill out a hole for the spear to go into.

I started the hole with a small drill and then switched to a larger one. It is way easier to be precise this way and takes less effort to get the hole drilled.

A nice sized hole. I used 80 grit sand paper to sand down the shaft of the spear. The 80 grit removes material and keeps a very nice wood grain look on the shaft. I test fit it a couple of times to get a nice tight joint and voilà:

Put a little greenstuff in the joint and he is good to go!

Good call on the spear idea. It looks like he was meant for a spear to be honest. Quick question for ya too...when posting your pictures on this form how do you do it? When I insert an image it comes up as a baby picture, and when I drag and drop it comes in as a gigantor picture. What is your trick master, share your secrets with me.

Hey Demihuman, I just had a read through of your WIP thread. Your Old Death was awesome! Good work on setting a deadline and hitting your goal. The dragon is coming along great too!
After my young 'un was spawned there was many a year of no-paint. Auto-bassinet, sling or well-trained marmoset, do what you must!

The spear does look more natural, right? Plus he already has a sword and a dagger in his belt. I wonder if it was just too hard to cast a decent spear back in the day.

I resize my images to be around 600 to 800 pixels wide. Then I use the Insert Inline option. Those last pictures are 600 pixels across. There might be a better way. If you find one let me know!

Well I have the size down to 800x600 but I don't understand what you mean by insert inline option. Closest thing I see is insert horizontal line, or insert image, or column or row. If I just drag and drop the image on it makes it super huge still even though I shrunk it down. Any thoughts?

So, after you 'reply' you hit the 'go advanced' button at the bottom right of the message box. Then scroll down to the 'manage attachments' button and it will give you a dialog to upload photos. Then after you have uploaded, rather than hit 'done' hit 'insert inline' and it will give you the little html picture text jobber in your response and you can cut and paste it where ever you like in your response. It took me a few passes to figure it out.

I like CMON hosting my images. I don't know what my data limit is though.
