Congratulations! Remember the universal parental war cry: Sleep is for the weak! Actually, that motto really sucks... some one should really do something about that ;)

Best paint job ever. You should defanately submit that to the golden demon. Congrats and best wishes to you and your family this holiday season. He/she have a name yet?

Thanks folks!

Digganob, He does have a name but I am going to keep it private just to be on the safe side. Wouldn't want it to get out on some strange internet forum ;). Plus he will probably want to pick his own CMON user name when he is older!

Okay, everyone is asleep. Time to paint :)

Good thinking. I never thought about that. Well happy painting. I myself got to paint yesterday finally ... For five minutes then it was off to put out the next fire. Might get some sculpting in tonight if I'm lucky.

Re-did the horns with greenstuff:

First I rolled out two cones:

Then I flattened them a little:

Then I twisted them right up using my fingers. i used water to keep my fingers from sticking and used a light touch to avoid finger prints.

I clipped off the ends once the greenstuff cured. I didn't use an armature to sculpt so I just stuck them on the end of pins.

Drilled some holes and attached them with greenstuff:

They aren't perfect and still a little clunky but I think they are a big improvement while still being true to the original figure. I did not worry about them being very symmetrical. They are supposed to be organic and I am very happy with them a little cocked.

You can see in the picture I also made a crystal topper for her staff. I found some hex shaped sprue on a tank model in the garage and used that and a slice of round sprue to attach to the staff. On all of this I just used pins and greenstuff. I hope that will stand the test of time. These aren't for gaming so hopefully I will be good.

What do you think of the 'conversion'?

Pretty awesome. :good: Small tip with GS: If you do get finger prints on it and you don't have a fine enough grit of sand paper or it's in an awkward spot to reach or sand (like organic shapes) you can remove them with some nail polish remover - it has to be the kind with acetone though, that namby pamby hippy shit won't cut it - and a synthetic bristled brush. Just don't use too much or let it pool on plastic or resin minis as it could damage the surface or even melt some of the details o_O

Ok here are some progress pictures of the Knight and Priestess. The Knight painted up super easy with just a litle bit of work getting his highlights to sit right. I am making my highlights too big right now for some reason. the Priestess took a lot more work than i anticipated but is coming along now.

Z Primed:

Knight with some beige/brown/olive washes over the "bronze" and grey with warm brown(reddish brown) and a hint of light blue on the steel armor and spear head.

Priestess cleaned up pretty good. Her face is actually very nicely sculpted. Got the crystal to a stopping point but am not totally happy with it. maybe I should of done more purple and less magenta?

View attachment 24529

Knight pretty much done. I am going to give him a gem in his helmet. Might fix up his chain mail if have time. Pretty happy with how the color turned out. I imagine him donning the ancient and richly patinated ritual armor for his moment with the the Storm Drake. I added some battle damage to his shield and armor. I do pure white and pure black for the scratches and unless I can get it super fine it looks clunky. Maybe I should try using a highlight and shadow color instead?

And the priestess... Looking pretty darn good in this small photo. Mister Bailey03 was kind enough to direct me to his very nice skin tutorial over on WAMP: http://www.wampforum.com/VB4/content.php?r=3623-Painting-Skin-Tones

In the tut he gives some great recipes for Reaper (yay!) paint but one of the really great points was to "emphasize major details over minor ones". Usually I focus on making the edges and boundaries of shapes dramatic. focusing on the relatively flat parts and letting the creases and edges blend into teh next section more seems to work pretty good.

I took also took a shot at the Milosh' shear cloth and I am quite happy with it. Eyes look great IMHO and they are really the outstanding feature on the sculpt so that's cool... I might redo the crystal in blue...what do you guys think?

They turned out quite well :) Don't you dare touch that crystal! It glows with a subtle inner light right now and looks magical. Her face is particularly lovely too. WAMP has some great articles there for sure. I found one today that was for TMM I had never seen before. Keep up the great work!

I concur about the crystal its very nice how it is, I also think her eyes are well done. The horns turned out good too. Little one into the cupboards so better go!

Very nice Demi, I have to say that the horns are bothering me because they are not symmetrical BUT at the same time they are great because I don't think horns are suppose to be symmetrical. The eyes and tattoo across them just brings life into the mini and that crystal...just WOW! Great job.

Thanks guys! Life has been a little hectic as we approach crunch time! Only 3 more days to get the Dragon Dio entered over at Reaper!

I wanted to spruce up the base a little and was inspired by the flames on Zab's Sleeping Chibi to try some OSL. I had mentioned some sprue crystals earlier and this is what I came up with:

I had some of the same base material left over so decided to build the crystals on that. Thinking that if I did not like them or if they took to long I could just leave them off.

View attachment 24617

The clear green sprue looks pretty cool right? Have to revisit that some day. I used some epsom salts like I would sand around the base of the crystals to make them look more natural. The Epson salt has really nice small crystals but you have to be fast because it will devolve if it stays wet too long

Ready for primer:

View attachment 24619

Added some blue with the Airbrush. Trying to get a gradient that goes from light up to dark to make them look like they have an inner light. Thought about doing purple crystals like what the Priestess has but they didn't look great in photoshop on the base. I hope it's not too much blue. I figure the Priestess could have a journeyed from a far away land where the crystals are purple.

View attachment 24620

Did a wash of the dark aqua marine with matte medium to get add to my gradients. I did this a couple times and they got a little darker than I wanted. the key was to wash then hold them upside down for a minute then set them on their side so the dark wash wouldn't run down to the base of the crystals and ruin the effect.

View attachment 24621

Drybrushed on some highlights using light aqua marine mixed with white.

View attachment 24622

Went back and cleaned everything up. Re did the wash/dry brush steps a couple of times. Edge painted the high lights to pure white and Painted some very dark darks into the dark parts and hit them with some gloss varnish:

Pretty sweet right??? I also fixed up the last picture in Gimp adjusting for exposure color and sharpness. I didn't do that on the other photos

Yeah! That looks awesome! Maybe you should paint under pressure all the time...:snicker: I am totally stealing that salt trick too!
