Awesome, Thanks guys. So it sounds like consensus is: tweak the anchor, harpoon arm up and throwing but keep the more bent over stance, add pirate hat.

:)

Oohohoh, not a hat, per se, but why not just cut right to the chase. How about our old friend Roger? As in Jolly Roger? Like a big f'n banner with ship rigging and stuff???

Oh man, oh man, oh man!
Demi you've just solved a problem for me!
Been trying to get a base to work for a figure for Milosh , going vertical and failing!
Horizontal and it'll work.

I owe you!

Awesome looking scene Demi, and that flag idea is killer hahaha. Is it wedged in his ribs or shoulder blades? Or just strapped to him?

Spreading myself thin on projects and have a lot going on, so to keep painting I have been working on some more "quick" practice minis, and trying to use my airbrush to actually do some painting.

I have used my airbrush to do priming and pre-shading for quite a while, and have had some success doing OSL effects and other stuff with it, but have never actually been able to really get parts of a mini airbrushed to a level where they didn't still need major brush work. After a couple of tries last week this is what I came up with:

The guy on the left's armor is airbrush only and the guy on the right's is airbrush with some edge highlighting, lining, and some glazing to darken the shadows a tad. I think the armor looks pretty good for about 30 minutes of painting.

Looks good. The glazing and line highlights make a huge difference. Keep at it and well have to start calling you DemiAngel ;)

Clean the mini's or the airbrush? Either way like 2 hours...LOL

You might want to look at a Paasche VL. It will do minis or prep a canvas. Not sure it's ideal for either though. Do you have reading glasses? A little magnification might be the ticket for you. Also a little birdy with some golden demons under his belt told me this is a darn good airbrush:

Thanx Demi, checkin these out...... as for glasses, 3 pair, detail bifocals, reading and look for glasses pair that I always lose, it's just the 28mm are putting more strain on me now and I don't this abstract expressionism would go down well on CMON ;)

I'm real glad u finished of with a real bit of painting, firkin robots will be doin Picassos next (really angry emoticon req'd)

Ugh yeah, I am super near-sighted which actually helps with the mini painting. Hopefully I can keep my near vision for a another decade or so.

So the funny thing about airbrushing is that you think it's going to be a very mechanical process. You've got pumps and tubes and mix ratios, and little knurled nobs and levers, but what i am learning is that it is just like a regular brush. There is no perfect mix, or distance. Each color acts differently, paint dries on the tip, pressure fluctuates from the pump- there is a lot of finesse involved.

BTW, this wee German mini painting blog is having a mini painting, and general photography contest:

Might be right up your ally :)
