Well it's certainly worth a 9, but I noticed some serious down voting on a lot of the entries. It just means next time there is a contest less people will enter if that's the kind of voting that happens. I know I won't bother. Mine got shot down into the 6s. It's at least a 7-7.5 Whatever. Pretty sure you'll medal with that over on P&P :)

Agree with Green. It's a very solid nine, should balance out at a 9.0-9.2 IMO. Of course, you'll get 10s from me to help it along. I've noticed that with time all entries sort of balance out to a more realistic representation of the work completed.

Voted 10, though to be honest really a 9. My way of offsetting stupid grudge votes.
the concept of this alone deserves an extra mark, it is unique, well thought out and superbly executed, yes it's not my style but you cannot escape quality when you see it, that's what a vote should be about.

I need to say it to be brutally honest this contest was the worst of all time even the greatly accomplished minis from demi and be Jamin Williams show severe differences in the voting from registered and non registered voters just really doesn't make much sense other than down voting this is 1)why I don't partake in the cmon contests and 2)am very worried about the cmon voting for crystal brush...unreal men.

You can even vote down minis with unregistered votes? That's rubbish. Generally, for contest like this, I vote only for myself (since I want to try to win) and for my mates (fairly, rounding up when in doubt): everything else I do not vote for, no matter if it is good or bad, unless something really makes my jaw drop and I feel that is MUST win, then I'll cast in a high vote.

As it is now, I am giving my friends straight tens, and I feel that I need to 'watch' everyone else just in case some pieces get undeserving high votes. That's really not the way it should be. Yeah, a contest set up this way could be won by networking, and that's cool. But to simply wreck the voting by sitting and refreshing your browser or changing your IP... that's cheating. I don't want to win (or even help others win) that bad.

6.3 with over 80 votes on a piece of that level, that's just stupid.

the voting for crystal brush is a joke to begin with, most friends win! and all your chances are in the hands of a photographer.

anyway...
in some cases sniping can actually help your score, as when the "anti-sniping" engine kicks in and remove the sniping votes which im most certain it will do in this case (sniping kind of obvious here) other people has voted higher because they feel its underrated.

Engine.........uh huh, engine.

William Gibson and Bruce Sterling type engine?
Babbage?
or
All Brass And Gears?
or
Herr Drosselmeyers Doll?

You never can tell.

Nice work Demi..
I don't understand why CMON allows this sniping nonsense. It basically gives me the impression that every contest that they run is rigged. I find it very odd that many of the CB winners are tied to CMON. I'm wondering if the 3 judge panel for this year's will have any effect, but doubt it since the 50% online voting is still in effect. As I look and continue to work on my entries for this year, I have this little voice in the back of my head, "why bother? Who am I in the painting world? " I don't know.. they say that they want to increase the size, but who wants to enter something that they have no chance of winning? \shrugs

Sorry for ranting, but this has been building up in me for the past few weeks..

The sniping occurs because the site was set up expecting everyone to act properly, but it's obvious that there are a lot of asshats who abuse the voting process to "Vote Down" something they are jealous of in regarding.

It does get addressed where possible or attention drawn to specific issues.

Lol crystal brush has judges if the it's a deadlock at 50 Internet and 50 judges then the judges will break the tie.bottom line is things have to be painted well I've looked at past winners and they have deserved their crystals...that's the name of the game....there is 1 solution paint something so well there is no chance of it losing.cm

Demi, she is fantastic no matter what the vote says! I thought you did a particularly creative job on her even before the great paintjob. Don't be discouraged I love your stuff.

Thanks all! I have a pretty good feeling that all of the contenders, of which I am happily one, are getting spammed with down votes, but I think CMON is on it. The number of votes on my mini dropped drastically this morning and my score shot way up. Same with some of the other mini's with wonky scores. So I think the Fairy Cmon Mothers have the situation well in hand. Still doesn't mean I am going to place but I think I have around an 8.6 overall score.

I do have to say it is less fun to watch my score bounce around so drastically. Maybe next contest it will be registered accounts only.

Ok, new day new (old) mini!

The February "model I loathe" challenge got me thinking about what I have in the closet of shame. The first thing I want to tackle is the Rackham Dwarves, since Zab sent his out, I feel like a loser for not sending mine, but I need to do a project I care less about before I get back into those guys. I haven't painted any GW in quite while and really want to finish this my Ork Warboss from the black reach box. He's one of the first models I ever started on once I kind of got serious but I never finished him. I made a nice base for him last night:

Intsa-molded the top of a Dreadnaught and cast it in dental stone. The insta mold gets a little funky, but it's perfect for a KO'ed vehicle. Added some goodies from the bitz bin and there you have it. The same Idea as i did last year for the base on my Killa Kan. Here is the "da boss" on "da base":

He's looking pretty good, but man do i paint different now... I think I started him about 4 years ago. Surprisingly the yellow fabric looks fine. I think that is waht originally made me stop working on him :)

Here is the base with a little Airbrush work. Talk about a time saver :)

Awesome blue! I love that guy you have come a long way since you started painting him.

It's tough looking at the scores, especially for a comp. I feel for ya.

I feel like a plonka too not finishing the dwarves either. I betta put a post up on my progress or un-progress on Zabs resin results, was so close to finishing his one.

im not saying folks didnt deserve their win. it is what it is and everyone knows it. im saying, that to have a competiton partly based on public voting is impossible to get entierly fair. or dont you agree that having many friends voting your cause in crystal brush do help?
i also know people who lost their chances of winning because bad photography. a friends entry even only got a back shot because the photographer thought it was funny the miniature had a dick (obviously a carrasco piece) and ruined his chances of winning anything.

Your piece is getting some high praise over at the Dark Age forums, Demi!

Also, seems like the votes are settling on around 7 now. Some of those are clearly better than a 7, though...
