i also know people who lost their chances of winning because bad photography. a friends entry even only got a back shot because the photographer thought it was funny the miniature had a dick (obviously a carrasco piece) and ruined his chances of winning anything.

In most cases, rules are rules. If you have an issue, call the waaaaambulance. But if my mini doesn't get photographed properly because my Minotaur is hung...that's when I take issue and boycott!

Wait a second skel ..what are you saying an e try had a penis and that ruined the chance of them winning. If that's true then yes I couldn't disagree more but what I think honestly stops or touches the internet voting is the fact that the judges are holding them in there hands in person and the judges like jennifer haley can overIde the internet voting. As for bad photography I'm kinda skeptical and that's my opinion that a professional photographer is going to take a bad photo. I feel for the artist who painted a pen is that should not give them the right to turn it around .but that's 1 case out of many.it's a 10000 dollar cash prize tournament I don't believe there's anything there doing purposely to hinder or help the artists. Either way I guess we'll know when I get there and then I'll be able to draw my own conclusions.
And before anybody reads this wrong I'm not arguing with skellete I'm merely having a discussion with my mate!!!:)

Oh yeah... The Dark Age forum! Have to go check that out.

As for competition, I had a chance to do a work shop with Aaron Lovejoy last fall and also mentioned that crystal brush was a tough competition, but he really liked the competition at Reapercon, which is an open comp so you are not limited to Reaper models.

Skel and BAM what are you guys doing for the bananalicious contest?

There's no perfect judging scheme. The online votes should help reduce complaints about bias from the judges. While there's plenty of room for abuse with online votes, hopefully CMON factors out sniping votes (I'm pretty sure they do... but even that isn't perfect). Yeah, I'd be incredibly frustrated if the photographer only showed the rear of my figure... but if you're submitting a NSFW model then it's worth asking whether or not that would be a problem. IPMS shows in the US often have rules about that since they're going for more of a family friendly atmosphere. Seems like if it was really an issue then they could photoshop in a censored space... but maybe that wasn't a possibility. Their taking photos of a lot of figures and may not have time to do much post processing.

In the end, at a show like Crystal Brush we know someone else is going to be photographing our entries. So it's our responsibility to make sure the figure looks good from any angle. You may want to avoid figures that will be difficult to photograph (very dark for example) too.

For the dark age contest, you've got complete control over the photos... unfortunately less so over the voters. Seems like a lot of entries have scores 1 or 2 points below where they'd normally be in the main gallery.

ally that last post I'm in total agreement with..and think of it this way everything factors to being even like I'f somebody has friends than the competitor has his group of friends as well. So it Def figures out in the long run and in addition they should've photosHopped the models hardware than just taking the back of it.that Def would've angered me...and like the firkin hulk nobody wants to see me when I'm angry.lol as for the bananas cous I'm not sure I know what it is.if it's an online voting contest I don't really want to do any based on the results of this last one.I mean sniping yeah part of the problem and is an ever existing entity in online comps but this last one was ridiculous both demi and Ben Williams their models were flawless and to get a 6 in the in registered vote and an 8-9 in the registered it really turned me off.win lose or draw as lone as a judge is looking at my models and being honest Ide rather lose that way than from sniping that's just a smack in the face.I CAN NOT BELIEVE in A TIME WHERE HUMAN BEING CAN PUTTY SOME BOY ON THE MOON HOW CAN THEY NOT FINE A WAY OF DEALING WITH AN ON GOING COMPETETIVE ISSUE...GEE WIZ...REALLY NOW..COME ON GUYS. :(

Of course you cant compare "normal" peoples fanbase with the big names in this hobby.
in a perfect world i agree this is the way a competition should be judged, but as it works i feel its a bit like the good old gw store competitions where kids invite their whole family to come and vote for their miniature.

probably not, as i got a real handicap when it comes to photographing. i hate online contests ;) if i can get a decent shot i might use the block of water in the basing competition though

I have a plan for the fan base that I've actually been putting into effect for the last 6 months....stay tuned to see what happens skell....fingers crossed..btw I'm staying very clear of the categories with the big names that's the first rule...and after baily wins there is still 2nd and 3rd to fight for...stay tuned again folks....fingers crossed and legs croused and even cross your eyes guys.


Yeah online comps I'm not really caring for if there's at least 50 percent of real judges eyes I can deal with that.again after this online dark age thing I'm kinda at a loss of wind in my sails.no bananaRama for me....uhh 8 mean banalisciuos.....I think bananaRama was an 80's female group.not my style of music HEAVY FIRKIN METAL TILL THE END!!!! I BLEED STEEL..

Robot Witch is still in the mid 6's :( But it looks like Benjamin Williams is in the low 9's right where he should be so that is something. The Fire elemental is doing really well too though it is not my cup of tea.

I am having a party finishing my Ork Warboss, If I get inspired I might put a little looter grot on his base with him too.

I have to say that I'm disgusted with what has been happening with the Dark Age competition!
Several of the higher scoring miniatures were targeted by someone who has obviously set up some kind of scoring 'robot'.
In one particular case 181 deliberate low scores were assigned to a miniature in the space of 30 minutes and it was obvious that these were not genuine scores but serious attempts to skew the voting.

Love the orc, and the base in particular.

As for the voting, I have reached out to my friends to vote me up, and quickly got twenty or so votes and half a grade up. And then I suddenly drop .3 points in three votes... It's a farce.
