Thanks guys! I am working on destroying my Joan of Arc and then building her back better then before. I will post some picts once my camera battery finishes charging. In the mean time check out this score and DROOL!

2 0's, 2 1's, a 2, a 3, and a 4. they all have damaged hairs and are a little un-even, but look like my good brushes after a couple of months of use. I was pretty happy to find them. There was an old lady digging through the pile with me pulling out squirrel hair oil brushes for $2.99 each we were both practically jumping up and down laughing. I guess all painters love a bargain.

I recently got a deal on W&N and Raph 8404s from d'serres here in Canada. Not that good though! NICE SCORE :)

Okay here are my different tries with Joan 3.0's sword. When I first started painting everything was an experiment and it was fun, then the experiments got harder and more involved and it was still fun, then they got really hard and really time consuming and they are still fun, but also pretty frustrating. I recognize this as my own learning process. Every time I go to a workshop or take a class I have to break down my own recipes and notions and then build them back up with the new information incorporated. The victim this time is Ms. Joan. I started here following the steps from the Angel Giraldes book the I took the Alfonso Giraldes workshop and am triyng out a lot of what we worked on her. I am doing some stuff on the armor but teh sword is what I have really struggled with. Here is the progression:

The point where I got with the book :

another angle:

Pretty cool. A lot of blue.

Okay now after the Alfonso "Banshee" Giraldes Workshop:

Have the contrast pumped up a little on the photo to show the sword. Kind of neat but reads like a wavy line on a flat surface. not sure what I did wrong but doesn't look right. This is after a 6 hour painting session trying different stuff on the sword. Notice i filled in the letters.

Took a few days off and this is where i went:

A total departure from trying to make sense but I am getting some neat contrast and F' it I want a pink sword :) Also using metallic medium in the highlights and fluorescent pink ink because why not.

Here is a view of the armor at this stage:

Sort of a compromise between the two styles. I should really go back in and paint everything with those crazy horizon lines like the sword, but I need to keep my sanity. I have a few fantasy projects lined up that will let me work on this stuff without going nuts.

Here is my inspiration for the sword, Banshee's Ironman bust:

The sword is very flat compared to Ironman but like I said, "learning process."

What do you guys think?

I think that the sword gives a nice punch. Improving the general appearance of the whole mini too. So imho it's worth the effort!!

I really like the new approach to the armour, but i think you should keep your pink sword to yourself. This is a family friendly forum sir -_-

First, and most important here is painting update: Pink Sword for the Win! I think the Banshee class had an effect.

And here is an extreme close-up of her lovely face :)

Should have her in the gallery in the next day or so.

Item of business #2 I am sorry I haven't been as present here as I used to be. I am trying to do a few of new things with my hobby.

First I am trying to start painting regular commissions. In a couple of months we are sending are littlest boy to pre-school four days a week and I since I am not going to be a full time daddy I need to bring in a little more money. I already have a part time job but I would love to add to that by painting.

To help with that I am trying to fire up the blog: http://www.demihumanpaints.com/ I want to do a post a week over there, but I am already falling behind. I did do a nice write-up on cleaning an airbrush. Not the sexiest subject but a good basic walk-through of how to get your AB really clean. This kind of came up a few weeks ago here and it seems like it is the first step in figuring out how to use the darned things. Check it out: http://www.demihumanpaints.com/2015/10/how-i-deep-clean-my-airbrushes.html

I also started a Facebook page that is really just going to run parallel to the blog. There won't be any original content there but it seems like a good place for a hub between the blog and forums and whatever else is going on. You can like me there at https://www.facebook.com/demihumanpaints

I am going to be lurking on some other forums to try and drum up some business. It seems like CMON is the worst place to try and find people who want you to paint their stuff. So if you see me over on Bell of Lost Dakka give me a shout out!

Okay transmission over. Wish me luck!

Best of luck! It would be great to combine your hobby with a way to bring some cash in. And based on some of the commission work I've seen around and on various sites you're going to be a breath of fresh air and talent.
