Dinner Tonight?

Having made the same 10-15 meals on fast rotation for the last years or so, I\'m gonna try and vary our menu here at home... gonna look through cookbooks and search the stores for ideas for healthy, tasty cheapy alternative dishes.

Problem is, our kids only want to eat: tacos ,rice pudding, pancakes or chicken hot wings....withthe occasional pork chop with parsley sauce and potatoes thrown in once in a while.

I\'ll try and vary our diet for three reasons: to refind the joy in cooking I used to have, to pep up our dinner meal and to introduce the kids to many more different kinds of foods than those they would choose in default mode.

Tonight, we\'re having beef and vegetable soup (ox tails and marrow bones with leeks, carrots, potatoes, onions and parsnip) along with a good italian bread from a local guy who bakes in a stone oven/wood fire. This falls suficiently outside our usual repetroie that I can with good conscience call it New and Exciting!

What are you having for dinner?

I have the same problem Marineboy except for a different reason-my two guys would eat dogfood and love it as long as they didn\'t have to get up from their computers to get it :( Kind of hard to maintain any of my old excitement of preparing a good meal when these two would be just as excited about a frozen tv dinner. I\'ve resorted to re-naming some basic dishes to more exotic things-for instance my tuna casserole has become Wild Tuna Surprise! lol

If sushi is raw fish, wouldn\'t cooking it be counter-productive, Tony? :)

I\'ll be having the same-old same-old.

I\'ll be having a green pea soup with smoked salmon and creme fraiche coupled with some grilled sandwiches with mushrooms, mozzarella cheese and fresh herbs. New recipe, but there\'s no way this won\'t be delicious! :D

Oh, and for desert it\'s vanilla ice creme with warm rubarb sauce.

Jacket Potato with tiger prawns..

5 minutes in the microwave, add prawns, Bob\'s your uncle.

Simple, quick, cheap, minimum washing up, reasonably healthy...:bouncy:

Mince on toast, with an unhealthy dose of pepper. Boring, but I\'m very fond of it.

Healthy, quick, easy and different, marineboy? How about a Thai stir-fry? It\'s my favourite thing to cook.

Heh...

I must have a sick mind.

I always smile when people mention \'cooking Thai\' or \'eating Chinese\'. Isn\'t that: a) Illegal and, b) difficult to conceal in one\'s freezer?

And I must be a pervert...

Freezer? Who the hell wants to eat Thai or Chinese from a freezer? Rather eat it warm and pumping, thank-you very much.

Living in Hell\'s Kitchen NYC I must have 100 resturant\'s to choose from in a three block radius. I often find it hard not to want to go out and eat and if the weather sucks most of them deliver. More often the question is what don\'t I want to eat tonight? How spoiled am I? :innocent:

Having gone out for overpriced pasta last night, I think I will have to stay in tonight... but now I am inspired to actually make something. Possibly involving garlic mashed potatoes, total comfort food :D

Tonight Left over duck fixed somehow spiffy and pork tenderloin in BBQ sauce, homemade stake and shake chile, corn, salad .

Often I make multi dinners because I was raised with all different types of food then the many and I used to cook for a job so the work factor is not a bother to me. I miss out on the lamb, seafood, Ox tail soup Welsh Rarebit etc if I did not
They tend to try what I have often and that broadens their taste..

Last night hamburgers on the grill w/curry and worst sauce.
I also did wine butt duck (kinda like beer butt chicken)
Kids tried the duck and liked it even the extra sleepover kid, and the BBQ cooks the fat off like a champ.

Prolly some gnocchi al pomodoro, with a bit of melted butter, some custard for dessert... nothing fancy. I\'m a college student, I\'m allowed to eat plain stuff ^_^
