I bought some things to maybe enter for reapercon this year for fun and they sent me this wraith for free. I did a quick airbrush on him to try out a few techniques as well as tried a osl type deal with the sword. It doesn't read super well but from start to finish it was under an hour so I'm okay with it.

Dang, that looks especially good for less than an hour.

Love the work on the marine for that amt of tune. Let me share something being highlight placement will always come up. The light scenarios are a phenomenal way. How most of us were taught a bit further back was something informative that I still swear by today. It’s more of an idea based on where the minis parts will have the highest highlights - to the deepest shadows to the intermediate shades as well. I feel if you read this bit and combine it with those light scenarios you will always get the right positions and everybody else feel free to use.
There is a write up on THE OZ PAINTERS FORUMN( the forum of automaton (Sebastian archer) mini painter extraordinaire . The article is called THE STOP SIGN RULE!!!

This is wonderful information. Thanks for sharing! It is really similar to what we use in product photography to create shape in our photographs. Being aware of the 3 dimensional shape of the item you can manipulate the light to accentuate that by understanding essentially the same concept. It is really fun how many of the same concepts translate between my career and my hobby. Now I just need to get down the physical actions of painting. Always more to learn, and I appreciate any wisdom you are willing to share BAM.

I was was feeling like some orks tonight and to try my hand at yellow. Started these guys about 3 hours ago and used some new things I’ve been reading about. Pretty happy with them so far. Only focused on the armor as of now.

These boyz are shaping up nicely. I'm looking forward to seeing you add some weathering to the armor and getting some green on that skin! :)

A local shop is having a sci-fi model competition st the end of July and I’ve decided to enter. They don’t carry 40k stuff and it’s more of a train shop/traditional wargame shop but I’m going for it anyways. It gives me a goal to reach towards. Anyways, just got in these couple pieces that I will be using on a tech marine that will be part of the entry. Excited to get to work on this bad boy!

Some progress on this piece from last night. The tech marine is going to be hiding behind this pillar for cover.

Test fitting the the placement of the legs to inform the rest of the pose.

And here is some progress of the tech marine partially assembled as well as fitting of the back pack for test purposes. I also added a couple purity seals to add some detail interest.

And last but not least a collection of all the parts ready to prime before I can assemble more. The base portion is not going to be primed yet as it needs a whole lot more but it’s in the shot to keep everything organized.

I have 6 weeks left to finish the job. So far so good.

Those conversion pieces are looking great Endless, are they Kromlech? Top idea to use a large piece of bark for the base too. Good thinking

That they are! The bark will be broken down to a smaller chunk once he is mounted on the actual base with the main figure. He is just a secondary interest to keep the whole thing enticing.

A quick update on the direction this is taking.

Starting to take some amount of shape.

A look at the side. Still have a number of gaps to fill and the other side to cover with the rock, but it is starting to take shape!
